Wow Boost, do you know what respect is? Damn!

Here's a little analogy of the Ps3/X360 battle:

A rocket car vs a viper.

The viper will launch a lot faster, gain a lot of speed, but will eventualy reach it's top speed, which is, moderate.

The rocket car will be a lot slower off the line, but it will Zoom past the viper as if it was a standing stone.

Now, if you don't understand, ask me.

That's great. I hope it works. I won't even buy an X-Box 360 ever but at least this will force Sony and other parties to consider doing something similar to keep current customers. No matter which company you like better, these battles between 2 titans only improve what we customers will get. That's why I think it's great that Bill Gates entered the console market. Keeps competition sharp. :)

1. Nothing I have ever posted on this forum, or any forum, would put me in a "crowd". I own both systems.

2. You play Castlevania to this day, is that right? I guess you don't have to know how to spell the name of the game to play it..

3. You are definitely in on the "fanboy-ism." You just don't realize it.

4. "IF XBOX 360 CAN PULL IT TOGETHER WITH FUTURE TITLES" The system hasn't even been released and you are already talking ****.

5. There is still life in my Playstation 1. Does that mean I'm wasting my time with the Playstation 2, or the Playstation 3? Who are you to say when a system has or has not lost it's appeal?

You should get yourself a bling bling gold chain. Just make sure the medallion hanging from it says - SONY OWNS ME.

You're funny.

Numbering each of your points and attempting to make a reply obviously based in anger rather than intelligence. :indiff:

To follow up in your own style... ;)

1) I found your "PS whores" comment to put you smack into the middle of the Xbox owners club.
No balanced opinion would reffer to the PS crowd as whores.

2) Castlevania?
Who would think you don't have to spell a game's name properly to play it.
This is news to me! I thought you would be banned from playing a game if you spelled the name wrong.

In any case, I do still play Castlevan"ya" (but only symphony of the night)

3) Fanboy-ism.
Ok, right on, now that I have an angry Xbox owner calling me a fanboy it is official. :(

4) Saying "if Xbox can pull it together" is not talking smack.
It is stating my view of what MS needs to do if they want to remain competitive.

Fact is, I'm waiting for Forza 2 and GT5 before I buy a system.
If GT5 doesn't have atleast some corrections made to the bad parts of the GT series then I am going to buy Forza and the 360.

However, that is only if GT5 is a failure.
If GT5 is good then I will have to base my choice on the system's graphics and at this time MS has not released anything that much better looking than a normal Xbox (not to mention, very little that is even close to as good as the PS3).

5) Lossing appeal and lossing "life" are two different things.
The PS1 lost its life a long long time ago.
However, the PS1 still has appeal and that's why I play PS1 games on my PS2 to this day.

The Xbox still has both appeal and life in my opinion.
Same goes for the other systems.
Hell, even my N64 has the life left to play games and games interesting enough to create appeal.

To put this bluntly...
I found your (boost lee) post to be offensive and immature.
You took criticisms and questions about the Xbox personally and created hostility instead of constructive discussion.

Your post had little to no value based on content and the content that was included was over-shadowed by your own anger.

Go ahead and talk jive about the PS3 if you want but it will never offend me.
However, talking poorly about me... That I do take offense to. :irked:

I suppose there's not much I can say to make you look bad or feel bad. The first of those you did for yourself and the latter I doubt you will ever do.

Oh well.
Just do me a favor and get yourself one of those gold chains your talking about cause really... If my post was a PS fanboy post then what the hell would your post be?

Xbox fanboy?
More than likely, but I would rather see you get a PS3 gold chain. 👍

Anyway,
Thanks for sticking up for me guys.
I appreciate it.

Interesting...
I wouldn't say this is too deperate, but I do think it is something of a cry for help.

Fact is,
Even if MS pulls out all the stops and really manages to make a big hit with the 360, it will still be over-shadowed by the PS3.

The reason I say that is because of the Japanese market and the overall quality of the ps3.

PS3 is the jump that Sony wanted to make- just like PS1 -> PS2.

Xbox360, with every show (including the most recent Tokyo Game Show) is looking less and less impressive.
Xbox 1.5 it really does seem to be... And frankly, anyone running their PC on windows should know good and well that MS is great about releasing new products on a regular basis (regardless of how much life is left in the previous product or how un-finished the new product is).

Right now we are all just speculating with regards to the effects of MS on the market.

However, my bet is that MS's only chance this time around is through good games.
Performance of the machine will not be the issue... Good games will be the issue.

Just look at launch titles. 👍
MS needs to pull it together and remember that getting the jump on your competition isn't a matter of where you jump from, it's a matter of how far you can make your first jump. ;)

Xbox360 looks like a small jump from a little further up than sony (being that they are releasing earlier).
However, PS3 looks like a huge jump and more than likely, that jump will leap-frog the Xbox360.

Of course, this is all just speculation on my behalf. :guilty:

I look forward to seeing what happens in the next year or so.
Until then I will be waiting very patiently. :D

Thing is, I just hope there aren't too many people who jump on buying a 360 only to end up with buyers remorse as they watch more and more new PS3 games come out.

Oh, and that reminds me...
MS's new trick mentioned in the subject of this thread, if nothing else, looks like a plea for Japanese plublishers to sign-on with MS.

Fact is, they need all the Japanese content they can get and at the moment it looks like they are getting more from the States, the canadians, and the Euros than they will from any of the Japanese.

Just my 2 cents. :ouch:

Btw, I have a feeling the ps2 & xbox roles will be reversed for the 360 & ps3.
Say hello to better looking games for sony. :sly:
Very insightful take, Kent. 👍

X360's early release is a double edged sword. By releasing the system early, X360 gets the head start this time. According to Microsoft, reason why Xbox couldn't catch up to a 'lesser' console like PS2 was because of the head start PS2 had. While I don't belive any of that(Dreamcast, anyone?), MS will have a chance to rake in as much money as they can before the release of the other two consoles, and I do think it is a huge advantage. Now to the disadvantage. Due to what I believe to be a "rush" by Microsoft to put together a next gen console, most people belive that X360 console will not be as powerful as the PS3. I get the feeling that difference between PS3 and X360 is as big, or bigger than the difference between PS2 and the current Xbox. Also, from what I understand, MS is looking into, and is supporting HD-DVD format, but X360 will launch with traditional DVD technology. Even if X360 is to launch with HD-DVD, it still won't be par with PS3's bluray DVD technology.

Even with all the disadvantages Xbox 360 carries, the head start will help them considerably IMO. I think PS2 is somewhat outdated, and some Playstation fans will not be able to hang on until the launch of the PS3. I'm pretty sure they will jump on(understandably) X360 this Christmas. Props to MS for keeping the console price at $300. PS3 is rumored to cost $350-$400, but of course, if Sony released the PS3 at $300, that advantage for X360 will be lost.

That was just peoples dumb mistake..

The Ps2 was overhyped..that is what killed the DC..The DC was doomed from the start just because of the attention the name "Ps2" got...

Sad thing is..in retrospect, i would have rather bought 4 DC's instead of one PS2....

The DC was so far ahead of it's time when compared to the Ps2....man...too bad..

I loved Dreamcast too........ :( Only SEGA system I've ever liked/owned.

On the name recognition thing, if that's the case, X360 is the new "Dreamcast". Disadvantaged system(took me a second to come up with a word that wouldn't offend the "fanboys") with a head start launch. Game over? I don't know about that........

It won't be game over..Because there was SUCH A large time between the consoles (relatively speaking..)..that most people who bought a Ps2.had the time/money to buy or Try and X box aswell...

Now..When the X box was supposed to come out..
that was AFTER PS2...

DC was doomed when the X box was released if you think about it..

People ATE the PS2 up....Then the xbox came..and took the sales the DC COULD have had to keep Sega afloat....

There is no real big 3rd party (nintendo..eh)... To kill MS..which wouldn't happen even if the 360 completely tanked...

The DC....IMHO was so much better than both the Ps2 and X box...

the BEST sports games debuted on there, and are STILL some of the best games there are..

The most entertaining fighting games were for DC....

one of my FAV RPG's was on DC long before Ps2...(grandia)

And how many consoles had a very very cheap online.....That was availible to DIAL UP subscribers..

with very very little lag...

No lag on 2k1...No lag on Phantasy star online....or Alienfront Online....

such a great system...

R.I.P.

 While I love my Dreamcast, it doesn't quite match PS2, Xbox or GameCube. :D It did have great games though. :)

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

That is some interesting news, but I don't really believe though. Microsoft do need to do something in order to take over the market share of gaming and this could be something to try. :O I rather wait and see what will happen overtime though. :O

Absolutely, it's something that is earned.

I'll leave it at that.
Exactley, Kent earned his a long long time ago, you currently need to earn yours, posts like that yours don't earn you any respect, they just make it harder for you to get respect from well known members in the future. Kent's a decent bloke so your lucky in a way because some mod's might have handed you a warning for a personal attack like that. All you need to do is just post or better still pm Kent an apology. I'm not having a go at you myself, just giving you some advice, these boards have high standards and a a result they're probably the best boards to be on, you need to take notice of what people say to you.

Thanks L4S,
I appreciate your efforts.

However, let's not go into that subject anymore. 👍
I doubt boost wants to hear it and I don't think he will take any action to patch relations with me (which is just as well for the sake of not being friendly should he ever be brought up in the mod forums). 💡 :grumpy:

In any case, let's stick with the topic and enjoy what's left of this thread. :D

As for me...
I'm thinking this is a move by MS to get more Japanese companies into the Xbox360.
At the moment they just don't have a big enough market in Japan and with this offer it may be possible for next gen "katamaris" to be built on the box instead of the Japanese main stays.

This will not be the end of the discussion though.
I have a more pressing feeling that the offer MS has made will only be a small part of their success or failure.

My feeling is that MS's chances for success rest in the "hands" of two games.
Halo 3 and Gears of War.
Sadly, neither of these are launch titles (big mistake IMO).

I say "big mistake" because if MS allows their biggest selling points to be released at the same time as the PS3 then there is a good chance that many people interested in those titles will wait around to see what the PS3 can do.

Now, for the Halo fannys I don't see that being an issue.
I have too many friends who became gamers only after Halo 2 and in the process became what I would basically consider fanboys.
And so, I do not expect any of them to be open minded about the PS3.

However, the "Gears of War" crowd will certainly wait for the PS3 and Resident Evil 5 before buying an Xbox.
And that right there is the biggest mistake in my opinion.

Just allowing the PS3 to be within a gamer's sight during the release of MS's most hyped 360 title is foolish.
MS has done a good job so far of keeping "G.O.W's" release date quite but that will only last until the system's launch when everyone suddenly wants to know where Gears of War is (GOW is scheduled for a 2006 release).

The thing is, if Resident Evil 5, Killzone 2, and MGS4 are all on display as launch titles during nearly the same period as MS's best offering... :( :trouble: :dunce:
It will not be good for MS to say the least.

My point in this rambling is actually simple...
MS needs to fully exploit the early release of their system by getting their most hyped and best looking games out there before the PS3 hype can fill the market.

Just my opinion here but anyone interested in MS's best exclusive offering (G.O.W.) will be easily pulled away to the PS3 once MGS4, Killzone2, and RE5 saturate the market with the best looking gaming sequences most of us will have ever seen.

Anyway, I'm out for now.
Catch you all later. :D

That's about it right there. I for one am primarily a one console gamer. I've seen consistancy in the PS so that's where I'm going to stay. The only thing that made Xbox remotely cool was the online experience. Outside of that, the games weren't too intersting to me.

Anyway, It's always smart to have your best 1st gen titles out at launch. Or at least the most hyped ones. Especially when you're talking about the christmas season.

MS is doing this move because they know they were owned by Sony in the market share dept. So they are trying to do something to give them a larger library of games. Let's see if it works...

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I don't think we should leave out all those fighting games either. Playstation have always got their big time fighting games to help get profit share over its competition. :O

Fighting games are getting more serious as you can tell their are numerous tournaments running around in nearly every state and country. Xbox360 could take advantage of the online feature it have to bring all the fighting fans closer to each other without going out to look for them. But there is a problem for MS because they don't have those exclusives like Tekken. The Playstation series have always had the majority of the fighting games and that really helped them progress.

Xbox somehow needs to get a hold of some of those fighting games also if it wants to get a chance at Sony's Playstation 3. Either get those popular fighting games to be exclusive to them or get them ported over or something. :O

Swift
The only thing that made Xbox remotely cool was the online experience.

This is an interesting comment Swift. 👍

Something it reminds me of is one more problem for MS.

See, in the past, because of the lack of power for the system, PS2 was unable to really pull off a great FPS online.
SOCOM was the only really successful online game for Sony.
Killzone had that online feature and even though I enjoyed the game, I can't deny that it was full of problems and so the FPS online library for Sony was pretty bad.

However, now that PS3 is coming and the hardware for it will be incredible, MS is going to have a major problem on their hands...
If Sony manages to provide online gaming as well or better than they did with SOCOM it will be a serious hit against MS.

Games like Killzone 2 will not be bogged down by lacking hardware, and games like Tekken will finally have a real chance at going online.

That of course brings me to the next point- fighting games (thanks for the reminder McLaren's Angel).
As of now MS only has two games for their fighting base, DOA and Soul Calibre.

Soul Calibre is a multi-system title so there is no real advantage to having that title.
DOA on the other hand will carry exclusive rights... But for how long? :nervous:

Many of you are aware of Tecmo's desire to only deal with the most powerful system. How many years do you think it will be before Tecmo comes back to their own nation's big hitter?
PS3 will be the technically superior system and on top of that, Tecmo will be able to work with Sony in their own country and their own language.

That's a big draw too.
Don't under-estimate the importance of the language barrier.
For the same reason that many Canadian and America companies find it easier to work with MS, many of the Japanese companies will find it easier to work with Sony.

In fact, I was watching G4 the other day and a MS exclusive title's lead designer (forget which title it was :ouch: ) said that he enjoyed working with MS because he could just pick up the phone and talk to the people at MS without needing a translator or anything like that.

Just something to think about.

Good points Ken-san.

Soul Calibur 1 on DC was arguably the best fighter of all time.

Yeah, now that the playing field will be more even with the online ability, I believe that it comes down to the games more then the system.

I'm not into FPS too much myself. But online racing is NOT to be underated. I've found it very fulfilling to be able to showcase skills with friends.

It's a big gamble on MS's part, but so was Windows. We'll have to see if they can take over the console gaming industry as well.:dopey:

ultrabeat
I'd argue that point :)

You're right. I should say best 3D console fighter of all time. But that's just me.

But for now, PS very much owns the fighting game genre. I just hape Tekken 5 will have online support like DOA3

Anyone played SCII, alternatively known as the "bra-less Taki game"?

Yep, god I love that game .

I'm very much leaning on the buy both systems branch right now. Witht he XB the only games that hadme wanting to buy one came out a bit late in the consoles life, mainly it was Forza and the online mode with it. But by the time Forza came out GT4 was coming soon and I knew once I got GT4 I wouldn't really need another buy it, tune it, race it type sim. I had GTR on the PC for my full on high fat sim experience and GT4 for my plop the disk in and play console sim experience, I didn't need that twice, I would have liked the online but not for over £100 of hardware and software and then not having a decent wheel to play it on. The XB360 though has a handull of games that have me interested now, PGR3, TD:U and GoW to name a few and I think that knowing theres 4 or 5 games I want to play at or shortly after the consoles launch warrants a bit more than a peek or a thats nice but oh well. Even if the XB360 only keeps me entertained until 2007 which is when I expect the PS3 out over here, £3-400 for a years worth of console entertainment is worth it considering the same ammount spent go-karting would get you 6 hours.

SCII Was pitiful compared to SCI. I'd get into details but this isn't the place.

L4S, you make some good points in there as well. But what it really comes down to is the proximity of the release of the PS3 and the XBox360's best games. If they are too close, obviously one is going to suffer horribly. Time will tell which one, I'm better Xbox :sly:

I have no doubt that the PS3 will outsell the XB360 hugely when it gets into it's stride. But unlike the PS2 vs XB were just coming to the end of where despite the sales I felt there was almost nothing on the XB I wanted that I couldn't have on the PS2 theres a good few games that interest me already for the XB360. Sales wise I think the PS3 will win by far.

Right now the Xbox's biggest selling points over the PS2 are:

1) Xbox Live
2) Halo 2 (which I personally hate)
3) The hardware's reliability (the PS2 dies periodically)

Most people don't care about the software. You're average console gamer plays either sports games, Halo 2, or is 8 years old and plays Grand Theft Auto in any of it's variations. Now with the exception of Halo 2, most games can be found on both systems. For your hardcore gamers, the software is the biggest thing.

What's this have to do with next-gen? Well, right now the Xbox has the biggest fanbase because they have Halo 2, the "superior system", and Xbox live. With the PS3 we now have stronger hardware (hopefully), and some really sweet looking games. That eliminates only one of the problems. If Sony can come up with it's own service to combat Xbox live and Halo 2, then it can win over America. In Japan Sony is already superior, with numbers tripling that of the Xbox. So in that sense, Sony probably doesn't care so much.

i hate halo 2 aswell. the storyline was ****e....

and i hate people who put hardware > software. heck, i have more fun on Sega rally with its whole 30FPS than i have on say, burnout on ps2

2) Ninja Gaiden and Jade Empire (which I personally think kick botty)

Fixed. ;)

MS ain't desperate, it's called business, designed to woo developers. The 360 will sell a bucket load, you shall see, as will the PS3.

Soul Calibur 1 on DC was arguably the best fighter of all time.

You mean VF4 evo ofc.
