It looks like a toy! (:

Hey, they made something uglier and worse than the normal Mini Cooper! That's something to applaud, I think.

They should just drop a 250 HP engine in the Cooper and forget about it.

I actually like it. I'd get an S convertible for my wife in a heartbeat.

It looks alright. Just, (and this applies to the regular Mini too) why does it havea Chrysler engine? Dosent BMW make fours? How hard could it be to design a FWD drivetrain?

It's only really based on the Neon's engine; there's been lots of development. And it is because the Chrysler 2.0 4cyl is a small, durable engine with good power and torque numbers. The bottom end is pretty robust and the head is pretty good, especially in the second generation.

Okay, but correct me if I'm wrong (doing this from memory...no research), the Cooper engine is built in a chrysler factory in Mexico. It is no secret that the quality control there is going to be less than that of the German/Japanese marques. And such a willing chassis should have more than 115 ponies to tug it around, without having to take the price step up to the supercharged S. I am thinking that a BMW engine would be more willing to rev, and could probably put out an additional 20-30 hp in NA form. My guess is that they just want to keep costs down, if the car is a hit, a few years down the line we will see a better engine.

Actually, QC at the Toluca plant is just fine compared to Belvidere and most of the stateside plants. I wouldn't place too much emphasis on conventional wisdom.

I've seen a few of these on the motorway near where I live testing I guess. They look ok and on the engine imo this is the weak point of the MINI especialy in 'detuned' One form bugger all bottom end ditto the top of the rev range, BMW arent going to make an engine for the Mini tho they are currently working with Peugot on a petrol 1.4 motor.

Hmmm....front end looks like a Mini....the antenna sticking outta the windshield looks kinda weird....back end....miniature PT Curiser??? :odd:

I think I just broke something.....PT Crusier????

Bah....anyways....115 hp is a bit low, even for a little car like that. After all, it is supposed to be sporty. So what can the S version put out? And how about that John Cooper Works package?

Jointly owned factory in Brazil, actually.

I think Klos is onto something. Who really needs those cramped rear seats anyways. Shove a 250 to 300 hp engine there... or a drivetrain through the middle of the car and have a car i would love to buy... looking good or not...
