Welcome to the new racers ; nice to hear about your business opportunity Corps, and you'll be welcome if you want to pop up in one of the future races ; thanks to Mojo (and Sjaak and Iceman) for welcoming the new fellows and doing the explanation while I'm away.
The warm-up race lasts another week, I'll get back to my DS2 and post a new leadeboard later (and I hope I won't be last in this new one). ;)

Some more news tonight :

1) I ran a quick 5-lap session and jump on the temporary podium, but still a full second behind the 2 leaders. I'll have to try harder later this week.

2) I slightly updated the rules in post #1 to remove irrelevant items (like the 'no garage car' stuff, since it's impossible in Arcade mode), change the thread logo and add a colorful (er... blue) leaderboard.

3) I went through all different tracks I already unlocked (I'm only missing the final 3 in World Tracks section) and chose the 6 tracks we'll use for all 6 races : 2 from Original section, 2 from World, 1 from City, 1 from Dirt/Snow. None of them was in GT3.
We'll run 3 races in Arcade Mode and 3 other ones in Simulation Mode, so you'd better check that you have a Cooper-S in your garage.
If not, go to Special Conditions, win both races at Costa di Amalfi and sell the prize Toyota RSC Rally Raid car for 265,000 Cr. That'll be enough to buy and mod a Cooper-S.

4) Race #1 will be posted monday evening (french time, i.e. GMT+2), a few hours before warm-up deadline. For a few hours, you'll be able to race both of them.

T2: 36.865

THis is somewhat frustrating and at the same time, thrilling and informative. To KNOW that I am a second or so off the pace keeps me analyzing my driving, my cornering and braking ... it's letting me know that I CAN do better, there is room for improvement ... this is so much better than running a hot lap on your own and thinking "phew, can't do no better than that!"

BTW, is there anyway to save just ONE lap ... or have you got to save the entire run?

Did not try, but I think you can save just one lap as ghost replay (as someone already said in this thread).

I'll try it at home and post here how to do it

BTW, what is your best T2 time?! :nervous:

There is an option to save only the best lap. I don't have the game in front of me, but it the 6th or 7th icon, and it features a green oval track with a number 1 displayed over it.

Board on post #1 is updated with the latest T2 times.

Tiny improvement T2 37.092 but a 0.5 faster lap.

to all guys (and girls ;) ) posting times in this thread and active in this cup, are you use driving aids or not?

My setup is:

Transmission: Manual
No Driving aids
Tyres: Medium

Also
Do you think you'll run faster using driving aids or without driving aids?

To Flat Out - Thx for your help and advices :) 👍 :)

I'm using NO aids. Personally, I went SLOWER with aids ... maybe a good second or so; it was slow accelerating and slowed too much in the turns. I'll probably have things thrown at me for answering that (after all, we are meant to be competing), but I see no harm in it personally.

I've never used Driving aids either in GT4.
Back in GT3 I only used them for cars with more than 1,000 hp, where it helped a lot to prevent wheel spinning.
For low power cars (like the Cooper-S), aids usually slow you down both when accelerating and braking.

Then, I use soft tyres, and that's what the rules say in post #1.
Mainly because they provide more grip than hard or medium tyres. They don't last as long, but it only matters in multi-lap races, not in time trial.
I suggest you try soft tyres, ref_tdi, you should save a few tenths on the lap.
I can also change the rules if some of you prefer to use hard or medium, no prob with this. There will be tyre restrictions in some future races, but not in warm-up race.

BTW, I ran another extra 10 laps and got a best T2 at 36.408
I'll have 3 or 4 other sessions before deadline, aiming at a sub-36 T2.
Board is updated on post #1 : warm-up race is closer than I expected, there are some interesting battles that will make the final result worth fighting for.
👍

I haven't used ASM at all in any GT game. And I haven't used TSC since I got my first Driving Force wheel. And now that I have the DFP, I will never use aids at all. (unless I come across an unruly beast of a car) I love my DFP.

I can't seem to beat my time again. I think I need to give it a rest for a day and then get back on it real hard. I think this sunday will be a late night for me. Hehe. I'll have a replay for all of you NTSC/NA GT4 owners with xports to view, even if I'm not one of the fastest. I hope some other people will too. I love to see how other drivers run the same course/car that I have. I definately learn alot.

And yes, there are some close battles, but it's still anyone's race.

So through what means are people going to export saved laps and import them later? I have a 1 gig USB drive but only bought my PS2 a few weeks ago (for GT4 :p), so I haven't got anything else except for a memory card.

I am unsure of the procedures on putting a GT4 game save, using a falsh drive. I use an Xport. Basically you have a USB cable with a special attatchment in the middle, and a load up CD for your PS2 and a program running on your PC. The CD in the PS2 allows your PC to talk to your PS2 and extract the save to your HDD. Xports/sharkports are hard to come by these days, though.

With a USB flash drive, I believe you need a special CD as well. I can't remember the name of it now. Sorry I don't know more. I'm sure there is someone here that knows about it.

Found a little time and run a couple of laps:

16.176
36.664

Glad I did, as it's actually a fun little combo. :D

Edit: Attached a PAL replay of flat-out's (Cyril) beautiful run in the 25 lapper series over at the numbers. 👍

@ Niels : can't help racing in all OLR event posted around, hey ?
To be honest, I tested yesterday a dozen combos to select the 6 races, and I think this series should be interesting and should cover a wide range of situations.
You're only 0.2 behind me, I guess you practiced almost 25 laps ? ;)

@ F1Lover : yep, it seems the podium will not be known before deadline. We keep fighting for 3rd step.

@Kolyana and Mojo Rising : the X-port and Shark-port are cable devices, the Maxdrive is the USB flash drive equivalent. Search the 'hybrid' forum here at GTP and you should find the answer to any question you may ask.

Board is updated, and times get closer and closer 👍
4 days and a half remaining.

new T2 time: 36.405

changed medium to soft (sorry but must had slipped tyre restriction on post #1)
an huge improvement...

also tried with driving aids... that really sucked... almost 1 sec slower

Flat-out, how many are we racing in this cup?

Who knows
I posted an interest check thread and waited until I got 6 drivers to post the warm-up race.
ATM, 9 drivers have posted T2 times in this thread, and many of them didn't answer to the interest check.
So I don't know. Since nobody is compelled to race the whole series through, we'll have some people joining us after it starts, leaving us before it ends or perhaps racing only once.
I'll tell you the answer when I know it : 6 weeks from now ;) when the Cup is finished.

BTW, I added a green check on the leaderboard to mark people who submitted their final time. Now you know who will not improve anymore and that will perhaps bring you the motivation to chase the tenths you're missing.

Edit :
Banjo had improved his T2 (and a big improvement) on his submitted lap, I just updated the board so that it matches his submitted time.

Great looking leaderboard and I like the little check.

I didn't manage to race at all last night (dayumed boyfriend and real life! :p), but I'll be chasing the leaders tonight. I'm looking for a half second improvement over the course of the mid section ... I am not happy bringing up the rear!

I hadn't realized that you are a girl until you mentioned the "boyfriend" stuff. Now I understand the "guys and girl" remark from Ref_tdi.
It's true that there are not many girls around here. Lotus350 (Kelly), and you, which makes a total of 2 as far as I know. (I never could bring my wife to play Gran Turismo : she plays RPGs only and doesn't see any good reason why she would bruise her thumbs only to save a few hundredths of a second on a lap).
So let me welcome you again as our first female Mini Cup racer.

And thanks to Sjaak for being the only gallant racer among us and having given way to ladies ;)
But you certainly won't need it if you can achieve this half a second improvement. 👍

Heehee, thanks for the welcome. I'm not sure why I'm sooo fascinated with driving games, but it has been somewhat of a recent renaissancefor me. YEARS ago - when I was but a wee little lass - I used to play a Formula 1 game on my C64 and had an incredible amount of fun running hundred of practice laps, fine tuning settings, heading out for qualification and then running a 2 hour race ... and I thought nothing of it.

Somewhere along the line I stopped playing that type of game and got sucked into the roleplayign and strategy field more and I've always confessed that I just love crunching numbers and seeing a well thought out strategy ay dividends.

Then about a year ago I got PGR2 for the XBox and started 'competing' against a friend very much like we are here (neither one of us had LIVE! back then). I think this really sparked something, because no matter how well I did, someone out there always took seconds off whatever I could so, which really got me thinking about my technique and driving games in general in a completely different way.

Since then I've been chasing that elusive 'perfect' title ... Pro Race Driver, Need for Speed, SRS, TOCA II, Burnout 3, Indy 2005, Nascar 2005 and countless others ... very little of which actually 'floats my boat'.

I never owned a PS2, but when GT4 launched I had two friends prattling on about it soooo much that it just seemed like the way to go ... chasing that continual driving nirvana experience. Of course, 200 bucks for a game (PS2 + title) is excessive, but after a week of deliberating I caved in.

I'm still very much new to 'proper driving techniques', but I'm a stubborn, tenacious little puppy and I really don't like coming last ... mid field I can handle (I'm realistic and a good sport), but last? Nosireebob, can't be having that!!!

BTW, I'm from England originally, but live now on the West Coast of America, so I'm 8 hrs behind the contest timezone, which I guess means a 4 PM cut off on Monday for me, which is work, so in essence my cut off it Sunday evening sometime. I'm assuming that I'm reading the deadline time descriptions correctly.

And thanks for organizing this little puppy ... I was loving GT4 anyway, but this really has instilled even greater interest and will almost certainly mean that I get some long term enjoyment out of the title. I am curious about Forza when it is released, but through events like this, I believe that GT4 will always have a timeslot in my week :)

Which is one long assed intro to the gal bringing up the rear! :p

👍 is the first thing that comes to my mind.
Then, when the WRS is back (hopefully next tuesday), you'll see what on-line racing is. This cup is just some small challenge between friends compared to the WRS.

You're indeed 8 hours behind GMT, so your deadline would be Monday 3:59 pm.
But now that I'm thinking at it, it would be smarter to say Tuesday 8:00 am GMT.
That'll give all racers the opportunity to race on their monday evening, whereever they live (Europe or US).

So if no one minds this extra time I'll update the rules.
Races will still be posted on monday evenings GMT or monday afternoons US time because I'm living in France (GMT+2) and I don't plan to get up earlier in the morning to post races (frenchmen are lazy ;) )

 Nice. Well actually, I think, I'm rather picky. But when the race is well organized, the combo is appealing and the race administrator is both charming, reliable and furthermore flood you with invitations, who can really say no. ;)

Actually I was ready to submit, but now I see, banjo has improved a lot. Kolyana won't accept last place, and I bet sjaak won't neither. Damn, 25 laps ain't gonna be enough then. :D

@Kolyana. Welcome to the world of On Line Racing. :) Looks like you have found, what you've been looking for. I stumbled over this place over a year ago, and have been racing more and more since then. You should follow flat-out's suggestion and check out the WRS too. Fantastic racing and a great learning place. New and very different combo's week after week, and always lots of competitors and friendly competition going on. 👍

I don't even know what WRS is, so I'm about to start searching to find out!!!

Thanks for the rule adjustmet regarding time zones, but if you want to post results by Monday, I'll try my damnedest (sp?) to get them to you well before the deadline ... I always spend a chunk of time with my b/f over weekends, but typically the afternoons and early evenings are mine and that should be enough time for racing.

Now ... WRS ...

:: EDIT

Okay, I found the forum in question, but would I be right in assuming that the WRS is not yet even open for registrations for GT4? I found lots of unofficial stuff and an official thread for GT3, but not an official GT4 WRS registration point.

Too true.
The WRS has been held for 105 consecutive weeks (that's 2 years plus one week) when last month, the guy who organizes it (Kent) had his PC broken down.
We (WRSers) kept ourselves busy by running week 106 and 3 unofficial races, until Kent came back online this week.
This happened when the big issue was to know when the WRS would switch from GT3 to GT4 and if we should have a new registration race.
Switch issue is solved : WRS will resume on GT4, and everybody expects Kent to post a new registration race next tuesday (WRS usual deadline).

To give you an idea of what the WRS is, there are more than 250 registered racers split in 3 divisions, and each week an average of 18 racers submit a time. (Maximum was above 50 submissions I think).

Sorry for such a n00bish post here, but can anyone tell me if this is the Mini that is available in Arcade at the start of the game? I'd go check myself, but I'm stuck at work for 5 more hours, and I don't want to get all eggcited to try the race out if I don't have the car. I also won't be buying the garage car yet, so if it's the same car I have, I'll run the arcade races.
Good luck everyone!

The warm up race uses indeed the Arcade Mini Cooper S (163 hp).
3 races out of 6 will be using that same Arcade car.
The remaining 3 races will require the Simulation car from your garage.
If you're running out of cash or wanna save it for more useful purchases, the easiest money is earned by winning both easy races at Costa di Amalfi in Special Conditions Hall. Prize car (Toyota Rally Raid car) + prize money give Cr. 275,000 in about 10 minutes. That's enough to buy the Cooper S from the dealer and fully mod it.
Btw : eggcited = 👍 👍 👍

Edit :
Improve my lap time by 0.5 with a similar T2 (+0.020), board updated.

Cool. Hopefully I'll have enough credits by the time the Sim car needs to be bought. License tests don't pay enough! ;)
