Time submitted. I drove another 25 laps with no improvements. I'll save my energy for the possible WRS GT4 qualifier.

Thanks for some good fun. 👍 I might drop in for another race or two. :D

See you around. :)

Board is up-to-date.
10 racers and 3 submissions already.
The Cup starts better than I expected.

Lord have mercy, I must unbelievably suck :(

Nope, yer doing great for your first OLR race! MY T2 was right about where yours was for a half hour until I "accidentally" found a better way to take the turn following T1. At about that same time, I realized I was taking every "U" as two separate turns. My lap was a second faster once I approached them as a single turn.

I ran about 25 laps last night and while I improved my overall time, I didn't improve (or even match) my T2. I'm not sure if I'm hitting the hairpins wrong or not ... I don't think I am, but then I think I can get through them quicker, but when I try I start losing traction.

I printed off a map of Tsukuba last night with the intention of studying it from an aerial point of view, which may give me a better idea of how to hit come corners. I *may* be able to brake later, but I can't see me saving a second just within T2 tis way.

I did discover that I was hitting the last bend wrong ... I was braking too soon ... so maybe I'm moving through that too slow and therefore hitting the first straight below optimal speed and therefore already down on my T1 and T2 times before I even take the first corner. I'll be working on this theory tonight.

I may come in last, but it won't be for not trying, studying and running a gazillion laps. I'm looking forward to seeing how you guys are doing this so I can figure out where I'm losing time.

Keep it this way 👍
I ran 8 more laps, and while I could run my T2 again (36.4) many times, I'm still losing a lot of time on the final hairpin. It's gonna be hard to improve my time.

To help you out on this: I am hitting the Start/Finish line at about 87 or 88 MPH. I know I'm not the fastest, but this may give you an idea of your exit speed out of the final turn.

I guage this by using the bonnet view and as soon as my bumper hits the Start/Finish, I glance at my speed to see where I'm at. My fastest laps always start at 88 MPH. For some reason I always wonder if my Flux Capacitor is working properly. Hehe...nevermind, I'm dumb. :dunce:

Anyways I can't beat my damn time for the life of me. I'll keep trying though.

Well I think therein lies an answer, because I'm hitting it about 84 (I've been gauging my exit speed in the same way you indicated).

Ah well, back into the fray :p

Strange that you said you were braking too soon for the last bend... I was also going across at 84 mph at first, but after braking (and thus accelerating) sooner there, I was up to 88 mph too. Then again, maybe we're braking at totally different parts of the bend. :)

Then again, maybe we're braking at totally different parts of the bend. :)

I suspect we are :p

Initially I was braking just as I drew level with the grass on the right, a quick tap, drop into third and then coasted around at about 75 ... but accelerating out I was typically only reaching 84 across the start line.

I noticed that the B-Spec driver braked as he went INTO the turn, rather than just before, so I've been trying that recently.

I suspect that both are wrong :p

I have shaved off almost half a second off my overall lap time, and I'm hitting the first hairpin a little better, but that second left-turn hairpin is killing me ... I KNOW I'm hitting it all wrong, because if I'm ahead of my ghost at that point, typically I lose it all again and anything after that point becomes moot.

I suspect I'm going to learn a hell of a lot from you guys.

Spent soem more time on this, also have some 35.9's but no clean laps afterward. I did shave off .4 from my lap. :)

Looks like we are going to have some close podium battles here.

Don't worry Kolyana, you'll get it. And yes there is much to learn here. I learn more and more here. I love it.

Hope I can get Division 2 or 1 when GT4 WRS starts up. I will still run the Mini Cup, though.

Just gave this a shot - nice combo flat-out.

T2: 0'35.992.

More time to come off hopefully. :)

Board is updated.

Edit :
I ran some more laps, with a bunch of T1s at 15.9, and one T2 at 36.0.
Lap time was however 0.4 slower than my best save, which means I have been losing 0.8 on the final sector only :grumpy:
I'll run an extra 10 laps later in the week-end but I don't expect any improvement any more, I think I'll submit (to myself :dopey: ) soon.

2 more submissions received, and the board is updated.
Times are closer and closer, it seems every thousandth will be worth at the finish line.

I took another second off my lap, and my T2 is 36.040. Dunno how much more I can get out of this, but I think I'll try once or twice more.

Well, flat-out, here I am :D You wanted me to check out your challenge, and so I did ;)

I gave your Mini Cooper-S a quick (should I rather say slow?) burn and came up with the following:

T1: 0'16.290
T2: 0'36.520

That's after ~10 laps.
I know there is still some room for improvement, as I am not even getting close to 88MPH at the Finish line (my highest speed was about 84-85MPH, at that point).

Now make me happy and go make a couple of laps in the frog - you know what I am talking about

EDIT:
I did 5 or 6 more laps, and I figured out what I was doing wrong: I was taking the last turn in 4th gear :D
Downshifting to 3rd gives the extra boost necessary to get ~86-88MPH at the Finish line.

Here are my new and improved T times:

T1: 0'16.174
T2: 0'36.254

Final lap time dropped by 0.628 seconds 👍

The Wizard.

Welcome Wizard. Much slower than usual hey ?
I'll have to practice some more as I can run a regular 15.9 at T1, but it rarely results in T2s below 36.5 :ouch:

The board is updated, the remaining 45 hours and 30 minutes will be crucial for the final podium 👍

Thank you, flat-out 👍

Yeah, the MINI is not the fastest thing out there, especially with stock settings :D

But I am enjoying it nonetheless.

I know I shouldn't give advices to an expert MINI driver such as yourself, but if you allow me, for the section T1-T2, be really easy on the throttle, do not floor it completely until you have cleared the turn, steer smoothly, and do not upset the car. The softer you drive it, the better the results :sly:

Now hop on the frog and show me some times :D

I am going to bed, 3 AM here :indiff:

The Wizard.

Submission received from fieldy with a T2 at 36.669.
I'll update the board later.

Well, I run a few more laps (~15-20) with the MINI, but I can't reach my current best time, no matter how hard I try :indiff:

It was a nice race and with GT4 Qualifier and GT4 WRS coming back up, I don't know if I will have time to partecipate in the remaining 5 races of the MINI Cup... We'll see.

Time for me to submit...

The Wizard.

T2: 36.417

I consistently ran better for about ten laps this afternoon (first time at GT4 for a few days), so I felt fairly good and managed to shave a second off my overall time. I'm going to hit it again this evening before I submit, because I really think that I can gain another two tenths.

I ran a dozen more laps, and I've seen many T2 in the 36.0 - 36.3 range, but I never could match my best lap time. I consider my time as submitted, I won't practice again.
Board is updated.
32 hours remaining.

It's down to the wire ladies and gents. The practice race is almost under wraps. Good job on your new T2 Kolyana.

I will run some hard laps tonight before I submit to try and beat Barbol's time and try to prevent others from passing me. :)

In all, this has been a fun (and frustrating) warmup. I'm glad I participated and I can't wait to see what Flat-Out has in store for us next. This is such a close race. I can't believe how close everyone is. Great driving all. I hope to see some replays from some North American drivers. I will be submiting mine for all to view. I always learn alot from watching replays.

Good Luck, and Have Fun.

I hope to see some replays from some North American drivers...

My usual practice is to only post my replay if I'm on the podium, so for my sake I hope you get to see my replay. ;)

Thanks Mojo :) Time's running out for me and it looks like my apartment mate may be about to pounce on the HDTV, but I hope to improve just slightly more before the deadline.

THis has been a huge learning experience for me and I am sure that I'll learn something from some of the posted replays!

I can't seem to put a perfect lap together, so I'm submiting now. It sucks because I beat Barbol's T2 time(35.859) But I couldn't keep the lead at the end of the track. :( Great warm-up race, Flat-Out!!!

Awsome run Barbol.

10 submissions already (see leaderboard on post #1), and 17 hours 15 minutes remaining.
The final times are not as close as T times are (13 racers within 0.8 sec for T2s, 10 racers within 1.6 sec so far for lap times), but the suspense is intact since positions are not strictly the same.
Results will be posted tomorrow evening GMT time (in the afternoon US time), but race #1 is already posted here
