oh I forgot, did u see the TOP GEAR episode when they elected the best car of the century (or of the year I cant remember)of every class (cqtegory)...guess what, the Mini cooper S won its category (small car)and the 206 wasnt even in the competition...

I think i missed that episode! Im no Peugeot fan though, i have driven a bog standard 206, and it felt bloody odd. Have not driven the MINI though, but from what i could gather when pasting one, unless its got a supercharger strapped to it, it aint all that fast, which was my original point.

With regards to the JD Power survey, i DO listen to what its saying, and its the only one i do, for the simple fact that the survey is the combination of thousands of drivers inputs into the survey itself. Public opinion is what counts, it is what sells cars.

All new mini's are made in the UK in the Midlands.

Just because there is a Porsche factory in the US, doesn´t make the
Cayenne American. Get the point?

Ever thought, why you can purchase a MINI at your local BMW dealer?

As far as i know, the last real British manufacturer is the one, that makes
the taxis.
(TVR sold to Mr. Smolenski, remember...shame, isn´t it?)

Oh yes, and MG-Rover...

I dont have a problem with it? how come you quoted me, i was only supplying a fact. Couldnt give a **** where its made to be perfectly honest with you.
Isn't Morgan still a UK company? Also Caterham and Noble?

Yes, right. I forgot that.

But then don´t bring it into context, if MINI is British or German. If it doesn´t matter
where it is build, then MINI is German, build in Britain. I couldn´t give less on that fact.

Someone asked where they were built FFS :grumpy:

ok we can say that mini is a bit german and a bit british, but mostly german. The project was initialized by micheal Cooper, son of the legendary John Cooper. He wanted to continue the legend, and he handed his project to bmw that followed it and built it. The conception of the car is definitely british, the physical parts and the engeiniring are from BMW, germany

Someone asked:

"Hang on... Isnt the MINI German?"

The answer was:

"All new mini's are made in the UK in the Midlands."

The answer to a not asked question then, right?

OK, let´s stop this here.

No offence meant, and i hope not taken.

(Must have been an overreaction. I love, no, i adore my S...
This does not mean in any case that i do not like other cars, brands
or whetever.)

In fact i love British cars, especially TVR, and not only since they were appearing
in GranTursimo.

The classic mini is a class of its own. It is a classic. No modern car could achieve that.

The new MINI is a hot hatch. In my opinion an outstanding one. But that is just my personal
taste.

Why slag the new MINI? It's not meant to be a cheap car for the masses like the original Mini. The main focus for the new MINI has been the surprise of the original Mini, that it's fun to drive. And guess what, it is. The car is quick and not overpriced considering how much it costs to build. BMW is trying to maximize their profits in the upcoming model changes. Already started with the 2005s.

One thing that bugs me about GT4 is how they got ALL the gearing wrong for the Cooper S. Only 5 speeds and the ratios are all off! Same with 1/4 miles times. I can't run mid 15's stock like it should, even on S3 tires!

Anyways what makes the new MINI so cool is that it is an easy car to drive quick and tons of fun to boot. I've seen quite a few MINIs who can outrun much higher hp cars on tracks that doesn't have room for straightaway speed. Even though I wish now that I bought an E36 M3 though....but I still love my MINI

Swindon and Oxford are not in the bloody midlands!!!!!!

The 206 is a dire car to drive in comparison to the new MINI, I have driven both on many occasions and while the old 205 was a supurb car the 206 is not.

In the hot hatch sector the Renaultsport Clio 182 and MINI Cooper S are head and shoulders above the rest, however my money would go to the Clio.

The new MINI is a good car. We owned an 02 Cooper S, and unfortunately needed a LOT of service. The service for BMW Of Hawaii was utter crap. So bad in fact that we got rid of the car. BUT - it was a fun car. Handling was great (well, good - needed a rear sway bar to dial out some of that Milk Truck understeer!). Looked great. Just didn't have a lot of space.

Right now I'm gettin ready to sell my 1966 Austin Cooper S (and my '87 Porsche 924S) so I can dump money into my 71 Mini. It's going to get either a Honda B16 or B18 motor... 1700lbs, 220+hp (when we do the engine mods). Muhahahahahha. Now THAT is what a mini should be. :)

Any chance of posting some images of the Mini's ?

I have been away from the UK for so long :dunce: BTW, im not a 206 fan, they just seem to be getting rave reviews for the GTi180, handling was meant to bo different to that of the Clio, but still just as engaging.

The current issue of Evo has a group test with the Fiesta ST vs Clio 182 cup vs Cooper S vs C2 VTS vs Ibiza FR. The 206 is not included in the test, but the following is a direct quote.

"There is one notable omission from the test, the Peugeot 206 GTI. Notable because it's the car Ford (worryingly) believed was the ST's key rival during the Fiesta's development, and an omission because, while it inexplicably continues to be a best-seller in the sector, it was never more than average when new, and is laughably long in the tooth. Beating it proves nothing when the game has moved on so far."

The 206 GTI (or 180 GTI) do have very different handling characteristics to the Clio, but just as engaging? No, sorry, not even in the same calls. Over a typical B-road or a track the Clio would leave the GTI trailing, and the twistier it gets the further back the 206 would be.

On a personaly note, I had high hope at launch for both the Clio 172 (as the first car was) and 206 GTI, having previously owned both a 205 GTI and Clio Williams (Mk III).

The Clio 172 (and later 182) are both fantastic cars (I had a 172 for a short while); but the 206 GTI was a major let down, yes it has grunt, but the handling was average and very uncommunicative. It still sells on the back of the old 205, but Peugeot seem to have lost the plot a bit with regard to hot hatches, which is a major shame.

Sphinx,
I don't have the conversion done yet, but here are a few photos from a company in Georgia that is doing them now. The first shot is self explanitory, but the 2nd and 3rd shots are of their way cool flip front design.

I'll dig around and see if I can find a shot of my car.

I WANT ONE that thing must go like a bat out of hell, really like the flip up front end 👍

do you know the size of the vtec engine there using?

They use the B16a series, but the review they did in Car & Driver had a B18C5 (Integra Type R if I'm not mistaken). I *think* the entire B series line is very very similar. I'll probably go with the B18C out of an Integra GS-R. Then again, that'll pretty much mandate that I need at least 13" wheels. Might have to step up to 14s, but that'll probably require new hubs and whatnot.

Err... to keep this GT4-ish... loved the Mini 1.3i in GT3. In GT4 its about the same. Haven't really played much with it... only a little over a week to go here in the US for the release!
...gotta check out the Mini Marcos also. That's another favorite car of mine. Mini based of course. :)

Found a shot of my car in case anyone is interested.

That's looking nice 👍 👍 👍 Just out of interest, what is that chrome stud at the top of the middle roof strut?

Can you can post one of the 66 Cooper S ?

I'm really looking forward to running the Mini in GT4, shouldn't be too long now I hope 👍

Akak - my 66 S weighs roughly 1500lbs. The 71 is a little heavier, but I believe it's still under 1600lbs. I was figuring on 1700lbs without me in the car and shooting for 225hp at the crank. That would allow me to embarass quite a few cars out there. The GoMini car ran 0-60 in 5.0 seconds with a lot of wheelspin, and the 1/4 mile in 13.6... managed .96gs on the skidpad and a pretty crummy 70-0mph braking of 184ft. I think the car they used must have had the stock Rover Metro brakes on it. KAD up in the UK sells a 4 and 6 piston front caliper for the Mini. :) That should rectify that problem.

Sphinx - The chrome nut on the "B" pillar is where the !@#$^) previous owner installed the upper seatbelt pivot point...even though there is one about 3 inches below that.

Attached is a shot of the 66S from late last year. Right now it's sittin under a car cover until I can devote some time to it so that it runs better. Don't want to have it frickin die on me like it did last time I was showing it to a potential customer!!! Doh!

what bhp does the mini tune up to in GT4? i hope its an improvement over GT3's poor attempt, the A-series with turbo can go to 250bhp. needs a oil cooler though otherwise trouble will insue.
