The more i look at it, i find the design of the R33 fits with how i would percieve it as a person....

That person was once the top of the world, until a "certain something" stained its image, massively, to the point of most hating it, after a few years of such views upon such person, said person goes psychotic, only caring about his urge to get revenge on what stained its reputation, and "finish off" the people that the "certain something" made look better than the person that turned into the maniacal psychopath, which wasn't even true to begin with.

...And then people (including users who posted here) will complain, hate or say anything negative about the Skyline GT-R.

R34 because it's the car that got me interested in cars and is still my favourite Japanese Sports Car

for me i'd love to own an r32, 33 and 34 one day, all at the same time

sure its a giant waste of money but i reckon you could get it done for under usd$150k

i'd want:

plain white late model r32 gtr non v-spec perhaps a 1992-94 or a wine read one

a victory blue r33 gtr lm-spec

a white v-spec r34 gtr of say 2001-02

all close to stock as possible but with minor mods

Best looking GT-R

The first GT-R I was exposed to was really in Gran Turismo the PlayStation game before then I was pretty ignorant of Japanese cars. That said, I did remember that Johnny "If I didn't have Bad luck I'd have No luck" Herbert bought a R33 Skyline when other F1 stars had more glamorous cars. (The only other Driver Car I can remember was when Jean Alesi had to pick from an Alfa Romeo Touring car or a Lancia Delta Rally car - He picked the Lancia.)

The R33 - Specifically the 400R, had the "Ultimate Skyline" feel as it was a hard to get car in the game (I think you needed to Gold the final licence series) So this "hard to get" aspect made it all the more satisfying when you did get the gold and collect the prize.

Then it was a comparison between the R32 and the R33. And the R32 was nice, angular, almost elegant. The R33 had a much stronger powerful look to it.

The R34 just looked wrong, the rear wheel three quarter angle just looks off, The wheel looks too small for the side of the car.
The R35 - Again the back end is a very slab sided. The Roof line is disturbing too.
The earlier models?
The Hakosuka (C10)is a neat car, the bolt on flared wheel arches have an innocent "look at me" cosmetic value that a girl with fake eyelashes have, Yet it is pretty reserved. A bit Mk1 Ford Escort Mexico in a sharp suit.
The Kenmeri (C110) is a snack sized of a Mustang Mach 1 in my eyes. Again bolt on fake bits (Fake bits! - Outrage.) I can see why people like it but not for me.

So for me the R33 is "Skyline" . The R32 a close but more reserved second. The Hakosuka an elegant classic, the Kenmeri a worthy 4th. The R34 a R35 however are the ugly sisters with big gopping looks. I think the delivery Van beat them into 5th place.

However just because they look like dogs doesn't mean they drive like one.

And Midnight Purple - An R33 paint so cool is spawned two sequels for the R34.

Which is the best looking GT-R? I just watched a Jay Leno's Garage video when he must have said "It's a good looking car" almost as many times as he said "Knee-son" rather than "Nis-san".

It entertains me every time when someone gives the Americans a hard time for the way they pronounce Nissan, when actually they're the ones that got it right.

R34. I also love the R32 and R33, but ever since I first saw the R34 in GT2 I fell in love with it's design, and it quickly became one of my all time favourites. Unfortunately I've never seen one here in the UK, I've only ever seen R33's, and most of those weren't even GT-R's!

At least you saw one, in here there's no such of thing called Nissan skyline GT-R (except the 2007+ Nissan GT-R of course)

It's the R34 for me hands down. Clean, aggresive, in your face and classic all at the same time. When I was in middle school and high school I didn't have Ferrari or Lamborghini posters. I had GT-R34 posters and models. It was the forbidden fuit, THE car.

I haven't seen many Skylines. I've seen a few R35 GT-R's and a couple of R33 GTS-T's

Gah! Takes a Aussie to educate a poor old Pommie! (At least you can play cricket!)
I remember when they (Nissans) were called Datsun - Then they swapped names.
Almost as bad as when Marathon turned into Snickers or Opal Fruits turned into Starburst!

So thanks to that little girl (In the video) - Knee-son is the correct way.

Harry Gateaux, Imari- As they say in Japan.

And thanks to the posters so far.

Grumble grumble nis-san, knee-son, potahto, potayto, tomahto, tomayto...

Say what you will about the GT-R, but none of them are timeless. They all look aged and era specific, lacking that classic look. As always with car designs like this, the oldest ones are best.

Remarkably similar to the Ford Mustang through the ages. Brand new they look great, but they haven't aged well.

It was close between the R32, for its rugged simplicity, and the C110 for its relative uniqueness. I chose the C110, because NA.

The curved angles of the R33 are a thing of beauty, especially in Midnight Purple, and probably ties the C10, with its "determined face", for second.

The others aren't really in the same league; the R34 looking a bit too stereotypically Banzai!, and the R35 like a samosa. The R35 is impressive in the metal, but then it's also big.

Loved the "Escort Mexico in a sharp suit" description of the Box, though! 👍

The main thing I tend to hear that's "correct" in the US pronunciation is the long i-sound. The -san part is usually way off, often the wrong vowel sound (too far back, but region dependent) and usually too long.
In the UK, nowadays we get all the vowel sounds almost right (-san rhymes with a slightly nasal "can"; see
here), but don't elongate the i, because it feels stupid to us.
Some people "relax" the vowel in -san to a schwa, though (rhyming Nissan with "listen", and aping its rhythm), and that's especially true of Antipodeans. :P
Nobody really respects the subtly elongated s in the middle (like Italian), nor the uvular n (back of the tongue on the roof of the mouth) at the end - although attempts at the resulting nasalisation may be where some of the weird vowels come from.

So everyone gets it wrong in different ways. :D
What you choose to be "more correcter" depends on the features of the Japanese pronunciation you fixate upon, which is partly cultural, partly linguistic etc.

I think I like the R32 the most, the original one is rather nice though. The rest don't really do it for me, I've never really liked the R33 or R34, and I don't think the R35 looks that good. A lightly modified R32 is probably the only one I'd have.

R34 because:

  • see my number initial :P
  • Not because of FnF. I loved the R34 back in GT2 before FnF2 / 2f2f was out in cinemas.
  • Low key look; not an eye turner nor an attention whore *coughR35cough*
  • If you compare the front of the R34 VS the R32 and R33, that is its only menacing look (especially without the GT-R badge infront); probably because of the headlight shape.

2nd mention would be the R33 since it is the one that got me hooked to the skyline series in the first place; sharing many synonymous external traits which the R34 inherited. Of course its internals follow after I'm done appreciating the outside.

Nothing better than this:

The R32 is by far the best looking Skyline/GT-R of them all. Just a simple, symmetrical designed, muscly two-door notchback sports car.

And if I may add, this picture is a fine example of how customization MUST be done. No "stance," body kits, flashy colorful wheels or decals all over. Simply flawless.

I agree with you on the last bit of your post about how customization must be.

The coolest thing about the R32 is that it's 100% legal to import a 1989 or 1990 GT-R into the USA. I still think the 25 year importation law is a bunch of BS though. We should be able to import whatever car we want, whenever we want. In 5 years, the first-year R33 will be legal, and the R34 in 9 years.

25 Year importation? Whats that? Some American thing? never heard of it over here in Russia.
Russian currency, however, on the other hand....

"The fact is that this has never been about safety or emissions. The law is about protecting car companies and their dealers. At one point, so-called "grey imports" were eating heavily into automakers' domestic profits, luxury brands in particular. Why buy what's on the BMW showroom floor in America when you can import a German-spec car not offered here with a bigger engine and more power? Grey imports accounted for thousands of cars on the road at one point.

Led by Mercedes-Benz in 1988, these automakers spent millions of dollars lobbying Congress to pass the Imported Vehicle Safety Compliance Act. This led us down the path of the restrictive anti-import laws we have today, including the ban on cars made in the last 25 years."

What does this thread have anything to do with GT6?
If you play Gran Turismo 6, you may run into a cluster of Japanese Cars that span 45 years of production and are still being made in real life today. The cars in question are listed in, yes the very first post. The Nissan GT-R.

The basic question was which of these six cars did you think had the best styling - Which in GT6 is often a reason why a player will chose or avoid a car. It has also let players explain not only which of the six they like the styling of but also some game memories from back in the day.

So a post about 6 generations of cars that are all drivable in GT6.

So kolio123 - you must prefer one of them over the others in the Nissan Family?

To be fair, she said Nee-san,not Nee-sonn like Americans.
So,half-right,half-wrong.
Also R33,excellent.
