Mission 13 Opera Paris Peugeot 206 rally

I just cant let these writeups go astray, so I'll try to save as many of them as I can.

A word for word "Cut and Paste" from www.deralta.net
Final time: 4'36.208
Ford Focus (second place): 4'37.955 (-1.747)
Drive this one like it's a rally. You'll gain more time, sliding the corners. The road is slippery and you need to get the back end around the corner to counteract the understeer.
Passing places:
Xsara Rally Car: Second long straight, just before the first chicane.
5th place (car?): The first 90degree left in the tight 90's at the end of the lap
Toyota Corolla: Start/Finish line, beginning of second lap.
Ford Escort Rally: Hairpin mid second lap (snuck and bumped inside)
Ford Focus Rally: The first 90degree left in the tight 90's at the end of the lap Spot time Checks:
Lap One: - 9.879 (27 seconds +/-)
- 8.761 (1' 00" +/-)
Lap Two: - 6.739 (1'38 +/-)
- 5.879 (2' 11" +/-)
- 4.162 (2' 28" +/-)
Lap Three: - 2.596 (3' 07 +/-)
- 2.344 (3' 25" +/-)
- 1.222 (3' 58" +/-)

Rally car chase in the tight Opera Paris course. There is not much room for error. Hold back from hitting the AI cars even though you really hate them. Stay away from the walls.
If you execute the beginning stretch perfectly, you could have passed the 5th car before entering the first chicane. It's hard to do but possible. In my run, I stick to its bumper entering the chicane. He will swing wide once inside the chicane so I took his inside and head for the exit.
Up next is the approach to the Opera House. Brake late and treat the right-left combo one single turn. You should be able to brake once into the inner apex and accelerate out of the corner. In the hairpin, stay as close to the curb as possible because that will gain you the best exit speed to the straight that followed. You need that good exit speed to not lose too much ground to the AI cars. Don't floor it too soon because otherwise you will hit the left wall. Your car tends to skid in the bend between the 2 straights so be careful.
The sharp right at the end of the straight is the best place for overtaking because all AI cars brake too early in that turn. Be careful not to ram their side though. This is also pretty much your last chance to pass the lead car in the final lap.
Caught up with the ... car at ...
5th: first lap, inside first chicane
4th: first lap, sharp right after long straight
3rd: second lap, right after starting grid, by braking later than him
2nd: second lap, right hander, after Opera House, before straight.
1st: last lap, sharp right after long straight
Checkpoint Times:
1st lap: +10.127 +8.648 +6.289
2nd lap: +5.612 +4.460 +2.594
3rd lap: +1.616 +0.945 -2.044
My time: 4:36.741
AI time: 4:38.785

Opera Paris is one of the places I hate (in the missions) for constant "5-second penalties".. It was aggravating at first but I did it after several restarts. Just remember to pass the cars just before corners preferably on the straights. You can pass the lead car on the longest straight in the third lap.

Since the cars are all very similar in power, you are not going to gain on them much on the straights. This one is all cornering. Work on getting the perfect line into each corner to carry as much speed as possible onto the straight. In my book, this mission will teach you more about cornering than any other, maybe all the others combined.

I just passed this mission yesterday evening after trying about a milion times. I probably spent more time on this than on all previous missions combined. :yuck:

What really blew my mind though was that nobody else seemed to think this mission was particularly hard. I now only have mission 14, 30 and 34 to do. I expect mission 34 to be quite difficult as wel but thats "normal". Mission 34 is supposed to be the 'piece de resistance' of the whole game. Mission 13 though is out of proportion in my experience. I achieved gold on Super licence test 11 (Opera w. Clio V6) about a week ago and I still couldn't complete the mission. 👎
Anyway, I would just like to know if there are other people out there who are/where having serious problems with this particular mission (if you have problems with a lot or all of the missions that doesnt count).

This mission is not easy, but since the car is easy to drive, it's easier to stick with it and pass. Missions 14 and 34 are much harder. Good luck 👍

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you on this, at least about Mission 14. I just completed M14 yesterday and didn't have too much trouble with it. I used Daan's video to find out the correct line and braking points. Then I took the Superbird I won in the Old Muscle Car Grand Prix in the American Hall and put some COM tires on it. Then I just practice the track untill I could manage a time under 2 min. After that I completed the mission on my first try 2 seconds ahead of the Buick Special despite a 5sec penalty at the end of lap 2.
This means that in mission 14, you can make mistakes and still win. In mission 13 even the slightest mistake made it impossible to win for me.
But I seem to be the only one having so much trouble with M13 so I probably must have been doing something fundamentaly wrong. I still havent figured out what though, even now that I've finaly completed the mission.
Oh well, I 'll just concentrate on Mission 34 now, as I am sure that one WILL be even more difficult than M13.

Just redid mission 13 last night. Won by about 1.6 seconds.
No driving assists on this test so you can lose speed with wheel spin. Careful throttle input is a must in the lower gears.
Passing is best done on the inside on corner entry. High exit speeds are a must.
Note that the AI seem to brake early for the right hand hairpin after the long straight so it is easy to pass them on the inside here with a late braking move.
Wall rubbing that is not hard enough for a five second penalty is detrimental to corner exit speed. So avoid bumping any walls.
Be careful on the last lap when close behind the lead car, dont try to pass in a silly place as it will end in lost time, wait for the right hand bend after the long straight as above.

Just completed this mission i a really hate it.god know how many attempts and i finally got there(with a little luck on the 2nd from last cornor)The Ai is stupid.:) :) :)

Whilst it took me a while to do this mission (was one of the 4 I left until I had done everything else in the game I could), I actually liked it a lot, much more then most of the other 3 Lap missions, least the track is a lot better then George V. If the mission had been on George V then it would have been buckets harder.

this one and the muscle car one after it are really hard... I am having to leave them and come bak later :(
If you want i could make a video for you to study. If you want a video just post or PM the missions that you're having trouble with.

i think this car is a great car, no doubt. but the course, FREAKIN !@#$$(*&!

That one corner, near the top of the layout, yes up there, is the one i hate most. basically youd dont want to go too far out, or youll lose ALOT of time. oversteer that one is the best bet. brake late on most occasions, usually thats how i pass most cars. a good start means a good finish. DRIFT DRIFT DRIFT. your slow in drift will give you speed, as well as cornering, and the youll have enough exit speed to take them on. i have a high standard for that first checkpoint: 9.9xx+ or less it gets me far, but i just somehow cant pull it together near the end, well thats my input, i hope this is of any help

ving
of course it'd help if you could turn the driving aides off :(
That's all part of the test. But don't worry i wished that i could turn off the rubbish too.

Keep working at it. If you get sick of it my offer for a video still stands.

I found that taking a very tight line (dropping down to 1st gear on the hairpin) and avoiding getting sideways at all was the fastest way through for me. Whenever I tried to slide around a corner the TCS / ASM would kill any momentum I had.

The only exception was the kink in the fast straight, this I almost drifted around by backing off slightly on turn-in then flooring it straight though; I would go over the bump next to the barrier on the right at about 180kph which gave a huge advantage over the ai for the rest of that short straight (they seem to hit it at about 160kph).

This one is actually incredibly easy if you know your lines and rules on Opera Paris off by heart:tup:

The first thing you need to grasp is the 'slow in, fast out' principle.
Cornering isn't a matter of just hammering your way into a corner then braking extremely hard or not at the end of the turn.
It's actually optimal that you are in an ideal position at the exit of the corner as so you can accelerate out to full throttle as soon as possible.

And actually, AVOID DRIFTING!, as the surface here is quite slippery, and you might lose the traction that you need to accelerate throughout the course.
Before the entrance of the first chicane should be the adequate time to overtake your first opponent. When your first split time arises, you should be no later than 9 seconds behind.

It's imperative that you drive perfectly on your approach to and during the hairpin bend. Don't race full-throttle when entering the right-left section, and remember to brake gently before the slight right-hand bend, and then brake quite heavily into the left-hand bend. This is vital as you can accelerate into the short straight before the the hairpin as perfectly as possible. This also can cut an insumnerable amount of valuable time off your final result, so try to remember it.

Now start braking gently as you enter the left-hand bend on the straight before the Place de la Concorde. At the end of the next short straight, you should be in a position to overtake again.
If you can keep this speed up, your on the right track:tup:

Important Tips:

Memorize the rule during the hairpin; brake gently, brake heavily, then speed out.
If you have trouble around this hairpin, you can practice it at the license test, AI-9.

Try to remain on the track without losing too much traction.

If your having trouble keeping up in this race, try practicing on license test S-11.

I managed to win this mission by an easy 5 seconds following this method, so it shouldn't be too much trouble if you can follow everything here near-perfectly:tup:

i hate this. this was quite tough for me. i took almsot 3 hours to complete it. i hate the constant 5 sec penalties. in the endi won the ford focus by 5 sec thx to 3 perfect laps

I had an extremely good first lap. I passed the Xsara before the first kink thingie, but ended up passing the next two cars underbraking after the long back straight. I just played it easy after that and passed the next two cars easily. I passed the fords in the same place on the last two laps. Before entering onto the long back straight, the hairpin right before that turn is where I passed them. Just late brake into the turn right up the inside. It'll force em` to go outside and you just accellerate right out of the turn. Be smooth and don't try to overdue the major turn in the back straight.

I absolutly LOVE this mission, the 206 feels great around the tight street circuit... also i like the way you have to push as hard as possible and be sensible wih overtaking to complete it.

Even after I passed this mission at first, I went back and re-did it, just cos I enjoyed it so much :D

I'm having a very hard time with this one. The Toyota/New York one took a few tries but it was easy to see where improvement was necessary and it was mostly a matter of polishing up the rough spots until victory.

But with the Pug in Paris, I think I'm driving pretty well, and I'm just not carrying the necessary speed. I've rarely passed the Xsara before the big chicane, and even then it's by muscle, not momentum. I've never passed the next pair until the back straight, usually under braking. And that's just not a fast enough clip to win.

My fast beginnings all seem to be spoiled by spinning to the right in the first bend of the right/left combo before the half-circle hairpin. I just can't get the line the AI seems to follow there.

Duke - It's a big help to get past the Citoreon before the chicane, it saves loads of time.

Take the first few corners smoothly and letting of the accel slightly on each, when it comes to the one with the yellow lines on the outside, let of the accel, brake a little then accelerate out.

When I did it awhile back, I think my T1 time for Lap 1 was either low 8's or high 7's . . . . .
