Mitsubishi has already released the Evo IX, the '04 WRC car is basically the Evo IX but it has not been released in the passenger version...please see the following link for details

How would Mitsubishi go about getting a 320BHP+ car released in Japan considering the 280BHP JDM 'limit'.

It seems in recent years there have been a number of cars that have produced well above 280BHP, even if they officially only have 280BHP.

With even mid range JDM sportscars, like the 350Z producing 280BHP, the high end cars like the new GTR will have to produce 350BHP+ to be worth the extra money. Apparently the new GTR will produce 400BHP!

On BEST Motoring they often talk about how the JDMs are being left behind the European models. Even 'saloon' cars like the M3 and various Audis and Mercedes are now producing 400, even 500BHP. Same goes for NSX rivals such as the 911, 360 and Gallardo. The replacement for the 360 will also have near 500BHP.

The Evo IX wont come out looking like that. Mitsubishi no longer copies exactly what the production Evo looks like with what the WRC car looks like. In fact, notice that the car is a Lancer WRC04, not a Lancer Evolution, meaning is technically based off the Lancer Cedia.

here's the specs for the 2004:

here's the car:

Yeah, the WRC04 does have some hints of the upcoming Evo IX, too bad MMC released the race-spec version before the production-spec, sucks. :irked:

the new WRC looks quite odd when seeing it in real life, especially the rear wing seems a little misplaced. i´m gonna take another look at the upcoming deutschland rallye :)

I think it looks sketchish, it looks sort of kitted and it looks like it has that brit style bad boy bonnet thing going. The wrc though loos really cool from what i see i like the hood more than the 8's hood.

i think it looks kinda cool, i don't think its real or what the car will look like, but its a pretty cool design, then again, i love mean looking headlights

Same here, the headlights look really mean, the whole car is nice except for the front grill it looks like it could swallow a cow.

Prior to 2002/3 the Mitsubishi rally cars were Group A based, meaning they had to follow the body style of the road car very closely.

The later cars are WRC cars which allow the manufactuer to take a standard road car and add 4wd, turbo, aero parts etc. hence the more refined aero of the WRC cars compared to the old Group A cars.

So when Tommi Makinen won all those WRC titles, he was in fact in a Group A car? Nu-uh...

How do you take a standard road car and add 4WD and a turbo when the standard road car HAS 4WD and a turbo?

see all other cars besides wrx and evo. Namely, Ford Focus, Hyundai Accent, Peugeot 206, etc... all fwd cars converted to 4wd, and highly modded.

Nway, back to the subject, wasn't Mitsubishi supposed to switch chassis to the new Colt? I read somewhere that Mitsubishi wasn't happy with the current Lancer chassis and wanted to switch to a smaller lighter body. Wasn't there a photoshop of a Colt Evolution somewhere? If that's the case Lancer Evo 9 or 10 would be the last of the Lancer Evos...

Then you change the turbo and improve the 4WD...

And Tommi Makinen did indeed win his 4 world championships in a Group A car (I personally thought the class had a different title but it was certainly not a full WRC car).

Prior to 1997 all top level rally cars were Group A, meaning that 2500 road cars had to be built with 4wd and a turbo 2l engine (hence the Toyota Celica, Escort Cosworth, Lancia Intergrale etc.).

In 1997 the FIA intorduced the WRC regs which allowed a manufactuer to convert a fwd non-turbo road car into a 4wd turbo car with wide wheeel arches and big wings, without the need to built 2500 road cars with these mods.

Therefore we saw the likes of the 206 WRC and the Focus WRC.

Mitsubishi stuck with the Group A formula for a while before swithching to the WRC formula.

The WRC formula allows many modifcication to the original car.

The Colt WRC was considered, due to the success of the Peugeot 206 WRC, but after Ford showed the Focus WRC could be competitive, and Peugeot switched to the larger 307, I believe Mitsubishi decided against a Colt WRC car.

Fugly. The Evos have been going downhill since the VI.

I'd agree with that. I've always liked evos but with the vii & viii although I sometimes briefly like what I see, I end up disliking it anyway.

That 'potential' Evo X looks a bit disjointed to me, much like the current Evos. Also the back half of the car seems to turn into a Vauxhall/Opel/Chevrolet Astra to me

The featured 'Evo X' is unlikely to be the final production car (and I hope so, it looks like a mutated Evo VII). Still, I've read the article and it points out that a new Evo IX (9) will be launched next year, which will be a revised version of the current Evo VIII with revisions to the susension and minor body changes. I can't wait to see pics of the IX.

That image of the Evo X looks different from the one that's in my copy of the mag...

Anyway, the pic is originally from Holiday Auto, the big Japanese car mag, it's an artists impression taken from an image shown at a Mitsubishi press conference, so it's fairly accurate...

And like others have said, there'll be an Evo XI first, the last one based on the current Lancer chassis (the yellow one in the article is an Evo VIII press car), number X will be all-new...

As for either being in GT4, we've waited long enough I think, I'm sure not gonna wait for another Evo....

Do you have to bring in Need For Speed:Underground everywhere?

It just makes you wanna rice out a Evolution VIII don't it? Just put a bumper on that flings out 10 feet with a 30 foot spoiler and get a wheel size of 6 with some cheap plastic GoKart rims. What bling.

But wait, theres more:
How about 4 NOS bottles on the hood the size of 3 PS2's.

Evo XI (Evo 11) first???

I think you meant Evo IX

Er, yeah, I think i did, too! Damn Roman Numerals!

I personally can't wait for the Evo DCLXVI... \m/

:dunce:

Mistubishi is crap.

Cars these days are getting uglier and uglier and this new Evo 10 concept is a prime example.
Concept cars aren't usually perfect, but even the Evo 8 is pretty fug with that big plastic Mitsubishi center mount.

The mag quotes, "Evo goes for the perfect 10."

Looks like four doors to me, so uhh..

P.S.

If you don't want to be offensive, then don't use the word queer
Queer
adj. queer·er, queer·est
1. Deviating from the expected or normal; strange: a queer situation.
2. Odd or unconventional.
