The regular season is over. Twenty teams will enjoy vacation and make ready for Spring Training next year. Meanwhile, the remaining ten have hopes of making it to and winning the World Series. Here are the final standings as the Postseason play is set to begin:

For the "TL;DR" crowd, best record goes to St. Louis at 100-62, and the worst record goes to Philadelphia with their 63-99 record. Best AL record goes to Kansas City and their 95-67 record, and the worst AL record goes to the 68-94 Oakland Athletics.


Congratulations to all postseason contenders. This Tuesday is the AL Wild Card Game, and the night after is the NL Wild Card Game. The winner of the AL Wild Card Game (HOU or NYY) will play at the Kansas City Royals this Thursday for this ALDS series. The other ALDS series game will be Texas at Toronto starting on Thursday. The winner of the NL Wild Card Game (PIT or CHC) will play at the St. Louis Cardinals this Friday. The other NLDS game will be the New York Mets at the Los Angeles Dodgers starting this Friday.

Previews/Predictions, anyone?
 
The 2015 Postseason begins tonight! Unfortunately, this postseason could last all of at least two hours for two teams. So is the potential fate for the Wild Card winners. Baseball can be difficult to predict. In a one-game deal like this, not bringing a winning effort can cost you everything. It's simple- win or go home.

Astros at Yankees tonight; winner's season continues at Kansas City in the ALDS. Cubs at Pirates tomorrow night; winner's season continues at St. Louis in the NLDS.

Houston Astros beat the New York Yankees 3-0. Keuchel pitches 6 innings and allows 3 hits. Sipp, Neshek and Gregerson pitch 3 IP with 1 BB. Masahiro Tanaka is the loser.
 
So the Astros and Yankees hooked up tonight in the Bronx for the AL Wild Card game. Either team's season will end tonight. Turns out... we advanced to the ALDS! They did so with a 3-0 victory at the New York Yankees. So the next stop for the Astros is Kansas City to begin our specific ALDS matchup. Dallas Keuchel (or "Kid Keuchy," according to his Twitter handle) picked up the win for HOU. Luke Gregerson got himself another Save. The NYY loser was Masahiro Tanaka. Houston's season continues, and the New York Yankees are done. By the way... I followed this game mostly streaming ESPN Radio. I thought maybe seeing my boys in action would probably mean I'd see them fail. After all, the game was on the ESPN networks, and those of you know I call it the "Always Hate Houston" network. But regardless, we did it.


Congratulations to the New York Yankees on a great season themselves. Tomorrow will determine whose season will continue on the National League side. Now if you'll excuse me... *happy dance*


[UPDATE] Luke Gregerson picked up a Save. Changes added.
 
Same situation and circumstance as last night... only this time, involving the Cubs at the Pirates and involving the National League. NL Wild Card Game- one team will advance [to play at St. Louis], the other team will be done for the season. So whose season will continue? We'll find out tonight!


Good luck to both the Chicago Cubs and the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight.
 
4-0 was the score in Pittsburgh as the Chicago Cubs blanked the Pittsburgh Pirates. Jake Arietta went the whole nine inning distance for the Cubbies in a complete game shutout and the win. The PIT loser was Gerrit Cole. So up next for the Cubs is a trip to St. Louis to meet the Cardinals in their leg of the NLDS starting on Friday.

People- your playoffs are set. Ten teams whittled down to eight. This eight will ultimately be trimmed down to four once the Division Series play themselves out. Congratulations to both Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh on great seasons.
 
6 months, 98 wins, 2nd best record in baseball and the season is gone in one game on bloop single and a hanging slider. :( 279 wins the last 3 yrs for the Bucs made for a fun ride but I think the window has closed on this team. I expect 1/3 of the 25 man roster to be different than it was this year and w/o the depth off the bench or pitching the team will slip back to a 80 win team.

Expect the Cubs and Cards series to get nasty and a lot of guys will get HBP.
 
Can someone tell me why Rodriguez was pinch hit for before he got an at bat? Just curious as to how this situation could come about. Injury fielding?

Purely a offensive move to do that. Quickly down 3-0 in the bottom 3rd he had to make the move for the power hitter vs defense. If I was Hurdle I would have started Morse at 1b who has more power than Rodriguez and plays better defense than Pedro but I wasnt consulted on that decision.:O
 
Welcome to the 2015 Divisional Series!

The six playoff teams will be met with the two survivors from the Wild Card games. So eight teams will become four for when the Championship Series come around for both leagues. This is where the Yankees and Pirates wished they could be on this level. Which four will advance? It will be the winners of these games:

* HOU Astros at KC Royals (ALDS)
* CHC Cubs at STL Cardinals (NLDS)
* NYM Mets at LAD Dodgers (NLDS)

Divisional Series. Best of 5. Astros blue and orange met the blue and white of Kansas City in Kansas City. This game ended up being a 5-2 victory for the Astros. Part of the Astros' victory was the first postseason "Springer Dinger" from George Springer. The win went to Collin McHugh of HOU along with Luke Gregerson cashing in a Save. Yordano Ventura was the KC losing pitcher.

Game 2 of this series is tomorrow afternoon in Kansas City.


Congratulations also to the Texas Rangers on their win. TEX and TOR are going to beat others' brains out offensively. I'm not going to expect any 1-0 or maybe 2-0 victories with these two going at it.


[UPDATE] I forgot to mention G. Springer's first POSTSEASON home run. Changes made.

I know KC is a small market team but they cant afford to print out extra line-up cards?

Game 2 of the ALDS match between Houston at Kansas City goes to the Royals this time. We lost 5-4 today after being ahead 4-2 for most of the game. This ALDS series is now tied 1-1 with Game 3 of this series coming here to Houston on Sunday. I hear the pitching match in Game 3 will be E. Volquez (KC) vs. D. Keuchel (HOU). As for this game, Kelvin Herrera took the win and got a Save from Wade Davis for KC. Will Harris picked up the loss for HOU.
 
You know, it would be great to see a Cubs vs. Mets series for the NLCS. The Cardinals are just too good, though. The Dodgers are quite adept themselves. Earlier this year, I said that I wanted to finally see someone win the Triple Crown so that the whole Triple Crown thing will come to an end. Well sometimes, I just wish the Chicago Cubs finally win their first World Series in 100+ years since their first triumph.

On the AL side, I am, of course, cheering on my Astros. A Texas team would be guaranteed a World Series if both the Rangers and Astros advance to the ALCS. Toronto and Kansas City are NOT sorry teams. If anything, if the Astros advance, I'd rather see them face Toronto than Texas. But really, it's "pick your poison" with these two. A Kansas City-Toronto series would be a good series if both made the ALCS. All I'm hoping for is my Astros to keep winning and playing consistently.

My Astros won't play again until tomorrow, so I figured I just chat about the Divisional Series games so far.
 
Mets lose the game 5-2. Chase Utley attempts to break up double play by sliding far off the base and not touching it, resulting in Ruben Tejada fracturing his right leg and ending his season.
 
That's not even the Mets losing. That's the Dodgers being gifted the win by the MLB. Utley should have been out by interference and whoever the batter at that point was as well. Those runs should never have happened in the 7th.
 
Should have still been 2-1 Mets at that point. The double play would have ended the inning on what should have been an interference call.
 
That was painful to watch. A lot of times people talking about a team getting robbed is an exaggeration, but not in this case. Clear as day what actually happened.
 
Saw on twitter from some of the Mets reporters that Sandy Alderson was waiting impatiently in the tunnel for the umpires after the game ended. Considering he's the head of the rules committee, he wasn't very happy with the way that play was handled.

Nobody is. The only people who are happy are the Dodger fans who truly don't believe that Utley should have been out. Yet Utley did this twice before and once last month. He was called out on both prior slides so why the change?


Players on twitter against the move: Justin Upton, Jose Reyes, HOF Pedro Martinez.

It should have. Neighborhood area was supposed to cut down on the injuries. Tejada was required to throw the ball in order to have it count as a double play broken up. Didn't see if he tried to but that might be the only reason why they were able to overturn it. Still shouldn't have because Utley never touched 2nd base either.

Hopefully Joe Torre reviews the play and hands out discipline to Utley. He more than deserves it.

Torre reviewed the play, said you can't fault the replay. Mets should have tagged Utley after play.....

Except Utley was called out and player with the ball couldn't get up or run because he had a broken leg.

On top of that, someone transcribed Justin Upton's tweet about there being a Tulo rule if it was him who got hurt.... except it came out as "two low" and this confused Joe Torre.
