I saw a little video highlight of Cueto getting jiggy with it before delivering a perfect strike. That was pretty fun to watch.
 
Cleveland wins the series, and the Astros are stuck on 49 wins heading into their final series before the All-Star Break. The Indians won 3-1 to take the four-game series 3 to 4. Two Codys combined for the win for CLE- pitcher Cody Anderson and a Save from Cody Allen. Brett Oberholtzer returned to the majors only to lose for HOU.

The final series before the All-Star Break for the Astros will be at Tampa Bay. Yep- two teams that play in ballparks sponsored by orange juice companies will clash in the Sunshine State. The Astros of Minute Maid Park playing at the Tampa Bay Rays of Tropicana Field.

The losing continues for the Astros. 3-1 was how much Tampa Bay beat the Astros tonight in Tampa Bay. We've lost four straight now to fall to 49-40. It was Erasmo Ramirez and a Brad Boxberger Save that combined for the winning effort for TB. Collin McHugh took the loss for HOU. Next game of this series is late Saturday afternoon.

3-0 was the final in Tampa Bay as my Astros failed again. Five straight losses for the Houston Astros. The final game before All-Star activities is tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 PM EDT in Tampa Bay. We have one last chance to get out of this losing funk before the All-Star Break. Jake Odorizzi smelled like roses with the win for TB including another save from Brad Boxberger. For HOU, it was a loss for Dallas Keuchel.


Congratulations to all winners from Saturday, including a bittersweet win for the Miami Marlins at home despite thrashing the Cincinnati Reds by a football score of 14-3.

When I left work for home, the Reds were down 5-3. In the span of the 20 minute drive to my house, it was 13-3...
 
So ends this stretch by the Houston Astros Baseball Club heading into the All-Star Break. We're heading into the All-Star Break with a 49-42 record, on a (now) six-game losing streak, and 2nd in the AL West. The Astros are stuck on 49 wins after having be swept at Tampa Bay and losing three straight in the at Cleveland series prior to the at Tampa Bay series.

We lost today 4-3 as Tampa Bay swept my Astros. The TB winner was Matt More and one more Save from Brad Boxberger. Our Lance McCullers took the loss for HOU.

After the All-Star Break, we're back home to host the Texas Rangers for three games followed by another home series with the Boston Red Sox.


Congratulations to all other winners from Sunday. Let's just enjoy the All-Star Break and make that stretch run to the playoffs once the All-Star festivities are done.
 
Kirk Nieuwenhuis managed to hit 3 HRs today. No Met has ever done that in a home game. Mets hit 4 HR today en route to sweeping Arizona 5-3.
 
The All-Star Break is here. Cincinnati and its lovely ballpark (Great American Ballpark is one of my personal favorites) will be quite a hotbed of All-Star talent. I just hope that the All Star break helps the Tigers regroup so that they stop sucking. They've played absolute garbage baseball lately.
 
Well I recorded it and haven't had a chance to watch, but evidently Frazier went bonkers in the Home Run Derby. Happy for him, and I'm sure GABP was rocking tonight. I'm also glad the storms decided to hold off. I thought for sure there was no way the Derby would go off after the forecast. We had a heavy line of storms come through around 1-1:30, but it went sunny after that.
 
Last night's Home Run Derby was won by Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds. The All-Star fun is in Cincinnati, so it's great for one of the Reds to win here.

Tonight is the All-Star Game. It's Dallas Keuchel (HOU, AL) vs. Zack Greinke (LAD, NL) the pitching matchup. As our Omnis said, "AL plays money, NL plays baseball." So who'll win the All-Star Game this season? We shall find out.

AL Wins 6-3. Trout got MVP but it would be hard to second-guess giving the MVP to Jacob deGrom. In his first All Star Game, he struck out the side in 10 pitches. Vogt, Kipnis and Iglesias all went down. Chapman struck out the side in 14 pitches. Why was Greinke starting the game? Also, why was Kershaw in at all?

Sarcasm. I know why. But Kershaw kind of proved the reason he was a last minute add to the roster with the bad performance. He's a great pitcher, but he's not the same this year.
 
Word has it that my Houston Astros are looking into acquiring J. Cueto of the Cincinnati Reds. Seems like the 'Stros want a few more healthy arms for its rotation. If the trade is complete, I'll have to wonder who the Astros may have to ship off to the Reds (or to some other team).

Left field is going to continue to be a black hole until Jesse Winker gets up. Don't know what's going to happen with Bruce in right. And I can only hope Hamilton starts getting on base more often. Considering how many stolen bases he already has, it's staggering to think of how many more he would have if he could just reach first. As for pitching, I think we will have a few solid starters (as we've seen with the current crop of rookies who have been throwing this year), though the only experienced starter (Homer) is streaky and injury prone. And he's locked up for the long run in an asinine contract. We desperately need bullpen help. It's sad to see how far it's fallen after being the #1 bullpen in the NL or Majors just a few short years ago.

They have plenty. Santana is one, Appel is a good pitching prospect for Houston. It depends how much the Stros want to win now.
 
The race to the postseason resumes starting today. Just about every remaining game matters towards making the postseason. So it's time to Play Ball again! If you missed one of my previous posts, here's a quick rundown:

AMERICAN LEAGUE
The New York Yankees lead the AL East currently with a 48-40 record. Kansas City leads the AL Central and have the best record in the American League at 52-34. After a good bit of time enjoying the lead in the AL West, my Astros are now second as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (51-39) lead the AL West.

NATIONAL LEAGUE
At 48-39, the Washington Nationals lead the NL East. While Kansas City has the AL's best record, the other team from the Show-Me State has the best record overall- the 56-33 St. Louis Cardinals lead the NL Central. The Los Angeles Dodgers lead the NL West with a 51-39 record.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS
St. Louis has the best record in baseball at 56-39 (.629), and Philadelphia has the worst record in baseball at 29-62 (.319). The best home record is with St. Louis (31-11), and the best road record is with the Texas Rangers at 26-20. Milwaukee has the worst home record so far with a 16-28 record. Philadelphia has the worst road record at 11-37. Both the New York Mets and Colorado Rockies have four-game winning streaks as the best winning streaks so far. The Houston Astros have the longest losing streak at six. A few other teams are on five-game losing streaks. Among current stretches, Kansas City and Pittsburgh have been 8-2 the past ten games. Baltimore, Houston, Texas, and Philadelphia all have been 2-8 the past ten games.


There is one game going on right now as of this post, part of a doubleheader between the Kansas City Royals at the Chicago White Sox. It is currently 4-2 in favor of Kansas City in the Bottom of the 8th.

ASTROS GONE GOLD! Their golden (50th) win was a 3-2 victory for the Houston Astros Baseball Club against the Texas Rangers. This win snaps their six-game losing streak as they are now 50-42. Collin McHugh was HOU's winner along with a Save from Luke Gregerson. It was Martin Perez who was the loser for TEX.


We didn't fail tonight. Congratulations to everyone else who won on this Friday, including the Philadelphia Phillies picking up their Diamond (30th) win of the season with a 6-3 victory at home against the Miami Marlins.
 
The Astros trailed 4-0 at one point of tonight's game. By the football-like score of 7-6, we failed. Texas took the win with '80s Night here in Houston and those rainbow jerseys. The Astros' rally fell short. Colby Lewis won for TEX as Shawn Tolleson got the Save. Losing for HOU was Scott Feldman. Tomorrow afternoon is a Rubber Game to determine this series.

We won the TEX at HOU series thanks to Dallas Keuchel striking out a career-high 13 batters in seven scoreless innings. Here in Houston, we put a 10-0 exorcism on the Texas Rangers. "Kid Keuchy" was the winner for HOU while Yovani Gallardo took this pounding loss for TEX. Our record is now 51-42 and still 2nd in the AL West.

Up next for the Astros... we're staying home to host some team called the Boston Red Sox for a three-game set starting on Tuesday.

6 hour game just ended. Mets survive after going 1 for 25 with RISP. They beat the Cardinals 3-1 in 18 innings.

I want to show some love for Aroldis Chapman of the Cincinnati Reds in becoming the fastest pitcher to 500 strikeouts recently. You really establish yourself when you can rack up strikeout after strikeout, but to do it so quickly in your career is worthy of respect. So congrats to Chapman on a job well done.

By a score of 8-3, we handled the Boston Red Sox here in Houston. A 4-run 5th inning for the Astros was the big key in tonight's win. Boston actually led 3-1 before we put up seven unanswered runs starting with that 5th Inning. So we'll suit up and play ball again Wednesday night as this BOS at HOU series continues.


Elsewhere...

* The Seattle Mariners played at the Detroit Tigers tonight. It was an offensive shootout, but Seattle won it 11-9. Detroit has now fallen to (I believe) 46-47 with this loss. Sad state of affairs as MoTown's baseball team is now below .500 on the season so far.

* Tampa Bay handed the Phillies a 1-0 loss in Philadelphia. Nathan Karns won along with a Brad Boxberger Save for TB. Aaron Nola took the loss for the PHI.

* MLB Network showcased the Baltimore Orioles at the New York Yankees. The Yanks won 3-2 against the O's.

* Atlanta won 4-3 at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Winning for ATL was Alex Wood and a Save from Jim Johnson. The LAD loser was Chin-hui Tsao.

* The NL East may well come down to the Mets and Nationals. Tonight in Washington, D.C., it was Blitz24's Mets who smashed the Nats 7-2. Jacob deGrom was the winner for NYM. Joe Ross took the loss for WSH.

* It was 3-1 in Kansas City as the Royals took down the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates. Wade Davis picked up the win for KC and getting a Save was Greg Holland. Gerrit Cole still has 13 wins so far this season as he took the loss for PIT.

Mike Ilitch is usually a genius and will open a blank check to keep the Tigers in contention, but some of his wishes have really dropped the ball lately. His desire to get a chamionship right now have result in a very depleted farm system and have us caught in some really bad contracts (Verlander, I mean yours in particular). I've heard a few people say "Fire Ausmus", but even Jim Leyland would probably struggle with this team. I realistically think they'd only get to the Wild Card at best, but even then, they're losing. I mean, look at the bullpen- its absolute trash. Price has been the only solid starter, and one good starter won't get them anywhere anytime soon.

It might be time for GM Dave Dombrowski to just start selling and rebuild. Detroit has had some costly injuries hamper them, but trying to build a win-now team is finally catching up with them. It looks like might be a rough few years coming up for Detroit. We have to fix the farm system, but it looks like 2000-2003 type seasons could potentially loom ahead now. I feel bad for Brad too since he will probably wind up going out as a scapegoat when it happens (even though he does have some managerial faults that he needs to correct, but they can only be corrected with experience).

I didn't even realize that had happened. :lol: It's nice to see he got to that mark before likely being shipped off to another team here soon.

Changed a few names...and you just explained the Reds situation perfectly. :P We'll be heading into full rebuild mode by the trade deadline.
