Don't forget all the Porsches, the HKS Drag Celica, Pagani Zonda etc :D
I really hope that one day we crack the C_O format and are able to convert it into OBJ and back. This will be when I start to get serious about modding the game.

Have you tried ZModeler? That opens up the cdo's and cno's for exporting but you need to get a license for it to work properly. Not sure about reimporting into the game though. Wouldn't there be some 'bone' structure to keep to or just name the objects the same?

I know of and I have a version of Zmodeler, but its exports are messed up quite badly. Bad faces, no UVs (mapping) etc. The best program to export cars as of right now is GT2 Vehicle Viewer. Both of those only go one way however. So no conversion into CDO/CNO.
I'd say just the names really. But that we'll see only when we make that leap.

Here's a new mod. I decensored the Winfield Evo V WRC, as well as removed the license plates, fixed the night headlights (they had a gap under them), and touched the front bumper a little. The sponsors on the spoiler will need a model touch up that Pez will do soon.
In the mean time, here are the texture files

And here's a giant 4K GIF to see the changes (warning: 1.5mb)

Thanks! It really was just me suddenly remembering that it was a thing last night lol. Making fixes like this are relatively simple, but creating new liveries like what i've been wanting to do takes more time. I have one which is only missing wheels to be complete that I need to finish...

EDIT: I edited my previous post with video footage.

New mod that could have been done weeks ago, but I got lazy.

Honda NSX 1997 JGTC Test Car. The car that inspired GT1's beta NSX-R LM.
My goal is to eventually change the duplicate 1997 NSX RMs, which are 6 duplicates when you include both Acura and Honda. So eventually, I would like to create some 1997 JGTC liveries for them.
Unfortunately, I encountered an issue right away when I made this. The car's mapping isn't perfectly capable due to some major parts being mirrored such as the hood and the sides. Which is the reason why I've censored some logos with Polyphony's signature "TIMMIT" logos lol

By default, the files replace the Honda NSX Type S '97's race mod. But it should work on any 1997 RM you would like to replace.

Download the files

Have you ever noticed how there exists a duplicate of the Castrol Mugen NSX? There's one you can win from the Grand Touring Car Trophy and one from the GT World Championship. They seem to be considered separate cars though as the one you get from the World Championship doesn't have a given model year. Perhaps the duplicate that's lacking a model year could be replaced with something else.

Oh that? The one without the year is just the 1999 version. The livery didn't really change between those years.

Yup, another thing you can distinguish between the models is the rear wing; the '98 version has little winglets on the sides of the main wing, while the '99 version has just one big wing.

Yeah, adding to that, there are some body differences as well between the 98 and 99.

Front bumper: loss of 1997-styled winglets, replaced with canards.
Hood gains vents
The engine vent is now modeled
The whole rear is different, with (ugly in GT2) redone diffusers, bigger spoiler etc.
Also, the '98 has messed up spoiler mounts.

I played GT2 to the death back in the day and never even noticed there were 2 versions  My memory card died a long time ago but I still kept a list of all the cars in my garage, and sure enough I listed 2 Castrol NSXs. Amazing how PD paid attention to even the smallest detail changes back in the day.

Actually, both Castrol Mugen NSXs had the white color as an option. I know, because I checked early on when I originally was looking at the beta cars myself.

@RandomCarGuy17 You would be wrong actually. Or partly right. The '99 Castrol NSX had a placeholder Altezza body up until GT2 Test Drive, where it got the '98's body as a placeholder, which still has the white at this point.

Also, the white colored version of the car lacks numbers, which, in the final, use the same palette as the black of the body, so we can't add the white back on the car and keep the number intact, or we can remove color shades, which isn't a good idea because the car already has a very small amount of shades per color. and that would make it very noticeable.

*insert "and an other one" meme*

Hayoooo, new little mod I thought of and that @pez2k was planning to add to the game in his next patch!

Today's car is the 1995 R33 GT-R V-spec LM Limited.

It's based on the '95 V-spec and will replace it by default. It only comes in one color.

Get the files here

How is this not just a recolor from the base V-spec:
- Retextured front bumper (side and plate ducts)
- Front grille
- Fixed rear bumper transparency and LOD1 position
- Blackened spoiler
- V-spec logo on the trunk
- LM Limited logo on the rear pillar
- Actually round wheels instead of slightly misshaped.

I guess i'm kind of on a roll.
Here goes the Celica WRC :P

As always, files are here.

Changes include:
- added front plate mount
- changed the headlights to include the cache
- changed the sides to reflect the real livery
- redesigned rear bumper with added details (michelin logo + tow arrow)
- recolored exhaust
- redesigned trunk lid
- completely redone tail lights (took me a while to get them right). the WRC car was a 1st gen ST205 while the game uses the second gen as a base.
- changed wheels to unmarked Speedline wheels
- darkened the green a bit (and kept the blue for those who want it)

Known issues: the night model has slightly weirdly colored headlight and tail light areas due to me trying to compensate for a (yet) unknown glitch/programming within the game that gives those areas the property of NOT being affected by changes in illumination. You won't notice it too much in-game however.
Tl;Dr: It looks fine in-game unless you squint.

EDIT: I found out how to fix the light dimming issues! (Explanation here)
Link is updated above (v1.1)

Also here's a gif if you want to visualize what this mod changed

The escort in the video just made me think, is anyone going to try to turn it into the cut 1.8 Escort, or is that too hard with what can be done right now?

Modifying the body mesh in order to reproduce the 1.8 would require a massive amount of work with the techniques we know currently. It would be much easier to start from scratch, but we can't import custom models right now so yeah...
Just a texture work would not look great because of the spoiler and front lip. And it being a widebody, even if only slightly.

That said, if anyone wants to give it a go feel free! I'm just not gonna bother right now with what we can't do properly

Konbanwa~

Today, I completed a 1999 Supra JGTC Test Car.
A week ago, one of my best friend sent me this photo of it, and I knew I had to get into the game. It'll be perfect with the Chaser LM, Chaser TRD Sports RM, and others.

1999 Toyota Supra JGTC Test Car.jpg

Changes from the Denso base are:
- Removal of a black triangle on the hood
- Removal of the canards
- Removal of the hood number plate
- Modified diffuser UV mapping to maximize the available resolution I can give it

Actually, I was unable to completely remove the polygons. So instead, I moved them to 0x0y0z so they're completely invisible.

Download the files here
EDIT October 31st 2018: If you're experiencing download issues (infinite "generating a key" loop) I've tried re-uploading the file but that issue's there. Hopefully the bug goes away, if not, contact me directly and i'll send you the file an other way.

EDIT February 10 2019: V1.1 update on the car. I somehow missed all this time that the right door was flipped. this is fixed now.

Here's the video:
