MODS - Can we please have a whine-free area ?

Got to agree with the OP. However I would of suggested a complaints section instead. Soooo much crying it's hard to stomach it all. Hell the game is what I was expecting, not without it's issues but the big deals are getting dealt with. People need to relax and enjoy the game or play something else.

As with many others around here I'm tired of the majority of Gran Turismo 5 coming down to some sort of grind-fest or worse. Unplayable GT Academy, un-get-back-able traded supercars, 20,000 Skylines but no DBR9. etc etc etc etc. Enough.

I bought GT5 because I thought I'd enjoy it. I didn't expect to read post after post of people picking holes in the game I have been looking forward to for many years and finding myself agreeing with their sentiments. That's the keyword here people - playing. It is a game. Not life. I shouldn't have to "grind" or play B-Sec ad nauseum, let alone give my mate a car I had to grind for, only to find I don't get it back.

So - I really want to have a game that GT enthusiasts will want to and enjoy playing. There certainly have been some excellent games (and upcoming ones) of that ilk and I would love to see and play many more. I just don't want to wade through the unexpected trash that is GT5 to get to it.

Polyphony - is this an option ?

Unbelievable. Pathetic. Childish. Thanks for further illuminating the problem, albeit unintentionally.

*sarcasm* This forums is awesome in terms of moderation. Not only can one whine about things non-stop, we can also discuss the exploits within the game guilt-free. If one tries to counter their opinions, you get the overused response of "why do you care how others play the game" as an ultimate solution. Oh, do try not "2 ch@ lik dis plz lol" or you'll be charged with an infraction, we sure got the priorities right. *rant ends*

No wine?!! But theres so much cheese to go with it!!! :scared:

Thank god. There will be more server space for me and the people who like the game.

It will probably get rid of the idiotic cheaters who dont know how to race as well... they'll probably bugger off for good now that Derpzone 3 has come out and Modern Worefare 3 got announced.

this post is also ironic, because its whining about whining about whining 👍

Alot of talk about whining but i don't see anyone dancing to any reggae or dancehall (see what I did there  ).

Just trying to liven up what seems to be a very drab, dreary and morbid thread. Lets be honest, without being an alcoholic and sipping on the barrels of whine in this thread, this thread pretty much shot itself in the foot the moment it was even thought of, so the real question we should be asking is, was it an idea or a brainfart? :sly:

But being serious, you're probably going to have a fair share of whiners in the GTPremium forum too, every forum has its whiners, I think the only difference I'd have to say there is, is the intelligence either used to produce the whine or the intelligence in the actual whine itself, no point getting into sour grapes ( :sly: ) over it, just learnt to be abit more tolerant as some whines can be intelligent and well-informed.

This post is full of truth. I join just before 1.05 and all I've ever seen is spam of the same redundant topics, one could copy/paste a single reply and it'd make sense in all of them lol

If we could have a GT5 Rants section, that'd take care of it.

I've been a fan of Gran Turismo for years and I'm dissapointed with GT5. I still really like the game and I still play it for hours almost every day, but it does fall short of what it should've been. I focus on the positives and enjoy the game but I can't forget how much better it could've been.

A-Spec should've been twice the length instead of the short grindfest it is currently, B-Spec is totally boring and I've never even completed the Beginner events because of the AI's uselessness. The manufacturer races are absent, they've been a staple of GT for years. These issues could've very easily been fixed and they'd have made the game much better.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the game, I enjoy it massively, the driving experience is superb, the detail on the premium cars is amazing, Nurburgring at night is amazing. The game hasn't been out of my PS3 since November. Now if you think my genuine critiscisms are 'whining', then tough. If you can't accept critiscisms of GT5, then you're a serious fanboy and need to accept that GT5 is not the perfect game that the fanboys make it out to be. There's also an element of irony among many fanboys... if 'XXXXX' game has an error, it's awful, but if GT5 has an error, it doesn't exist and if it does PD will fix it, so it doesn't matter.

Now I've been a long time fan of GT and have defended it many times in the past but even I can't ignore the bad points of GT5. That's a very long post but I just had to rant because some here can't accept any critiscism of GT5. Remember, there's a big difference between hating a game and simply discussing what is wrong and needs to be fixed.

Yeah, by the time PD sort this game out all the whiners will have moved to forza 3 (or 4)

Forza 4. It's coming this year, while the folks that would have played FM3 already have (like myself). FM3 is the game that we were playing (well, that and FM2) while waiting for GT5, so we've already been there and done that.

Whine-free area?

*Server shuts down*

No more GTPlanet, there, a whine-free area.

And for those who think all the whiners will just move on, they won't. I've seen this before, people will stay on the forums and complain long after they've sold the game. They'll even still play the game and complain about it the whole time.

Truth is, if iRacing or Forza were as amazing as everyone says they are, then people would be playing those and GT5 would be barren. but guess what, those games have flaws and shortcomings too.

I like GT5 and am glad that PD is willing to patch it up as they have. I've played games where you get one or two patches and they don't fix anything. At that point you have to decide whether you want to keep playing a seriously flawed game or not.

I'm patient, I've got more games than just GT5 to play so if/until some stuff is added I can just play those other games.

Oh but they did. They screamed and screamed bloody murder from the rooftops until PD banned gifting cars worth over 1 million. That hurts the gamers who don't have 24 hours a day to 'play' as you say or 'grind' as I would call it.

If there's going to be an 'elitist only' sub section of the forums, I'd gladly have them go there and compare ePenises and egos.

If you want a whine free area, why not build a time machine & go back to Germany circa 1938, I hear that all contrary opinion & criticism was swiftly dealt with then. As for the present, most of us like democracy & free speech here on this forum!

LMAO. Easy tiger. This forum (and most others to be fair) have nothing like democracy and free speech. :) It's run by moderators and if they don't like your post for whatever reason it will be deleted. I'm fine with that. The closest we get to democracy here is attempting to influence their approach to moderating, which is exactly what I tried to do with this thread.

That's an illusion. It doesn't exist. If we had free speech and democracy on the forums moderators would not be able to ban you for any reason they see fit (see the AUP). I'd post way more offensive things than I already do and I wouldn't already have infraction points.

Given that we're ruled by a hand picked oligarchy of moderators, it's hardly a democracy, either.

I'm not calling any of this negative. I like the place and its rules and I'm still here. My point is calling it a free speech zone and a democracy is a complete fiction. If more members realized this there'd be a lot less trouble because not every yokel would come along and post every little GT related thought that occurs to them with the attitude that they can do / say / complain obsessively all they want.

Edit: And if I'd bothered to read the post right above mine before I clicked 'quote', I'd probably have one less post in my total.

Let people whine who cares. I love the game but it has so many flaws and if people want to talk about them so what. Stop being fanboys

I was so amazed when the first b-day exploit thread wasn't immediately locked.. I've also never been called elitist before because I didn't want others ruining the game for me. It's confusing.

Or you could sign up to Elitist Jerks, world of warcraft forum. There is no whining there, all whining gets deleted and the posters get banned, even if there is a mild sniff of whining in your post you will be given an infraction. Not the best place for a casual moan ^^ :ouch:

The forum works though, despite the lack of whining it gets a massive ammount of traffic.

Moving on, about other racing games.

iRacing - Amazing physics, the best online racing, but there is no game there, it is only online competitive racing and its very hard on newcomers, you can lose safety points/licence for accidents caused by other people, and it is very very expensive, the more you want to progress, the more you have to spend.

Forza - Great game, weaker physics than GT5, and obviously it is lacking as it is still less popular on the whole, than the GT series.

NetKar - Great physics, decent graphics, bad online gaming code/system, very unpolished (its a running and growing beta), there is no game to it just offline testing and online racing, weak tracklist, lacking car list.

Rfactor - Good but dated physics (compared to iRacing), dated graphics, iffy online play (hard to find races outside of leagues), no single player progression game, tonnes of good mods but nowhere to race them outside of leagues, no longer being updated.

Live For Speed - Good but dated physics, dated graphics, lack of a single player game, hard to find races, no longer being updated.

Test Drive Unlimited - Hopeless physics, weak sounds, good graphics, weak online support (max 8 players), unbalanced racing. This is more of a "Sims" game with cars and collecting.

GT5 is not perfect but it combines strong physics, decent sounds and good graphics with a nice selection of high quality tracks and massive list of cars, online racing and plenty of people to play with. Despite what issues it may have, every game has its issues; some more than others and there is a good reason why GT5 is the market leader in racing games. It ain't perfect, but neither is anything else on the market.

See signature.

I'm so annoyed with all that - it's the same with every community "*QQ* the game is so bad and stupid and you know! we hate your game, suckers!" but people keep complaining about it and playing the game in question instead of just leaving it...which would a sane person just do in case they dislike something.

Rfactor dated physics ?
GT5 decent sounds ?

I don't think so.

Dont want to get into an arguement here, because i know it can go all night long with opinions, but yes.

GT5 - Decent sounds (not fantastic) because half of the racing game collection i have aquired or played has terrible sounds, only Codemasters has managed to particularely impress me with the quality of their sounds, some Rfactor mods have great sounds too. After being tortured by the sounds on Test Drive Unlimited 2, loading up GT5 and taking it for a spin again was like music to my ears after being abused by the 80s keyboard sounds coming from TDU2.

Rfactor - Dated physics, sure they are, they havent been updated in years while NetKar and iRacing are constantly being updated, the Rfactor physics engine is old and it is weak in many areas that even GT5 surpasses. Now dont get me wrong, in some areas GT5 can't even touch Rfactor, but physics and tyre models are so complex, different situations can make them react in different ways. Rfactor is a PC game, and for that it needs to be measured up against other PC games, and as much as i love it, the day i signed up to iRacing was the day i realised how far behind Rfactor had become... But Rfactor 2 soon, makes me feel warm inside.

I love how it's the whiners fault for whining... no consideration that if a ton of people constantly complain maybe it's because... oh I dunno... the quality of the product brings it on?

This reminds me of a show called Hells Kitchen which shows restaraunt owners who usually make crap food being all bitter that so many schmoes complain about their food or they get bad ratings...

Well gosh! It's the complainers fault then huh? LOL

iRacing - ... Forza - ... NetKar - ... (check, check, etc)

Your post makes too much sense for half the board I fear. The mention of Live For Speed is a little shocking. Is it essentially left as it is now?

I will have to add that I think you're being generous with Forza. F3 does have decent physics, a step behind GT5 in my book, but there are so many pitfalls in Photo Mode and the Livery Editor that I dropped it after a month, which is sad, it is a pretty neat game. But being up till 4am trying to get 18 pics sorted and uploaded to the Forza site just to have it muck up the quality is its own definition of grinding. :indiff:

Rfactor dated physics ?
GT5 decent sounds ?

I think so. More than any other racer I can remember, rFactor gave me the feeling of a car on a spindle while the world rotated beneath it. And it has the most wretchedly organized menu system in gaming history, and a manual not far behind. I can't believe the almost 30 minute hunt to find how to set the tranny to manual!

And you may not like the sounds, but frankly, I've heard very few racers which give me the chills as I watch, and listen to, an amazing replay of my car approaching from the distance. The semblance to real life is uncanny.

Anyhow, I guess I need to head over to the Members Only zone to check out the intelligent, grouch free posting there!
