Most hated mission?

my most hated mission for me by far is mission 34 I finish 30 seconds behind the 300sl I tried it a couple of times and then gave up. Mission 23 is also very hard.
If you have completed either of these mission I tip my hat to you

Nope, it doesn't work.. Or.. well.. I can't make it work.. While the one for m11 keeps the speed and goes in a straight line unless you brake a lot, the one you buy trades speed for turning moment - it goes were you want it, if need be it loses all velocity to create the necessary turning moment.

I just double checked everything regarding setup to make sure it wasn't wrong. Everything's stock, except for n2 tyres and the driving aids, which are now back to respectively 0, 0 and 2 (tried a couple of ASM settings, including 5/5, 10/10 (tested with TCS 5), 15/15 and 20/20).

Mission 34... it amazes me. I wouldnt call it the most hated mission (not my most hated anyway), but without a doubt, the most challenging. 123 seconds of waiting, then making it past the finish line with the timer under 9:13. It's do-able though, trust me. I couldn't get past +40 seconds until about two weeks after my first real attempts. Time trials work, so do license test golds (because you find the right line). Other than getting used to the track and finding the racing line, the car behavior does take a bit of effort to get used to.

mission 34 is hard, i agreed with you there. it takes time and practice but it's definately possible. however mission 23, i rather say it's a bit tricky than harder. i can beat 2 out of 3 tries now.

Just as long as the GTRs stay within your slipstream, (or you stay within theirs when you're behind), then you should be fine. The leading car is moving at a constant rate of about 163 mph. If you're moving at an average of 166 mph (or something like that, cant do the math), you'll eventually catch up to first at the end of the 3 lap race.

Just as long as you slipstream the whole way through (dont brake ever, unless the cars behind you are too far from them, and they deal with their own wind resistance too), you should be fine. Watch out though, because they brake (not sure why) on the turns, and also, on the turns, its kind of hard to tell whether or not theyre cutting wind.

I thought I would need to practice but in the end found it easy.

Get Daan's video from here and remember to try to keep it at 47mph (min) for the circle and some corners and 35mph min on the slower corners. I think this was from goldjunkies. For me I went below 47mph on the circle but probably average about 45-46 but get about 38 on the slow corners.

Also either memorise Daan's braking points or aim for these minimum speeds. I brake until 39-40mph for the slow corners and then turn in and 49-50 for the quicker bits.

I also used auto but held the gears on the long straights.

M11 is the one mission I may redo over and over as I actually enjoyed it. I also think it should have been a little harder.

Some people use off track items to judge braking points. I use shadows or markings on the track as otherwise you need to look elsewhere. And always try to draft the car in front.

Also an important point - do not give up. The mazda has a moment at the hairpin so even though he may seem a long way in front it is easy to catch him at the hairpin.

Edit: Just to emphasise I mainly went by the numbers. - here is a write up - I may make it into a write up with the exact details of my run and post accordingly

Braking points:

For Circle - lap 1 straight after the criss/cross markings on the road - brake hard to about 49-50mph - Lap 2 and 3 at the start of this crossing - keep it at about 43-44 around circle

1st right hander - brake hard about 1 second after exiting the big shadow and turn in during second half of braking - let off the brakes at about 36-37mph

left hander - use throttle control to keep at about 38-40 mph
right hander - as above
right hander - try to hit apex at about 45-46mph

left hander - brake hard halfway between crossing and end of shadow and turn in aiming for min speed of about 45-46 at the apex

right hander - there is a big shadow and then a small shadow jutting out - brake as you pass the start of the jutting out bit - turn in hitting apex at about 42-43mph

you should be trailing your first victim - your aim is to be drafting it when you hit the straight - you do not need to pass it before the straight

left hander to start the straight - brake just before front of car is about to pass the start of the rumble strip on the right and turn in immediately aiming for min speed of 35mph

draft the other car and pass (preferably on the left side but depends on when you catch him)

the braking point at the end of this straight is open for debate - Daan brakes before the second to last double crossing - or where there is a green and red neon writing sign to he left - I brake a little later but it is a little tricky - aim for a minimum speed of 33mph mid hairpin

Remember that on the second and third lap the braking point is before the criss cross crossing

Passing the red car is tricky - if you are quick enough it is best to pass it on the left hand side to set yourself up for the right hander - I had to dive inside on the right but still used the recommended min speed as my guide - on my last 3 runs I passed it on the left once, mucked up a right hand side pass as it narrows that turn and nailed a right side pass on my gold run. Daan passes him that early that he goes around the right but gets back on line for the corner

Daan passes his next victim on the back straight - I did mid hairpin if you are right on their tail coming out of the hairpin you are ok - if not I think you may be in trouble but keep going for the reason mentioned below

a perfect final lap can make up about 11 secs - Daan needs 7.5 (I think - it is not clear) but wins easily - I needed close to 9 and won by 2 secs

on my run I caught the mazda just before the hairpin - I thought I would follow him and draft him up the main straight, but he had a moment mid hairpin where he had to correct and ended up point to the outside corner of the second half of the hairpin not the the apex - I passed him before the main straight starts.

hope this helps

Okay.. I was just wondering if such a thread would be appreciated...

And for a little off-topic.. Damn, just missed the black cars for the second time :P started saving up money too late... well, at least I got the black gt one.. I guess I'll have to wait another 700 days :S

Here are some tires I have found:

M10 RD/RD
M11 COM/COM
M12 RM/RM
M13 RSH/RSH
M14 COM/COM
M23 SM/SM
M25 RM/RM
M26 RM/RM
M27 RM/RM
M28 RSH/RSH
M29 RM/RM
M34 SM/SM (PAL)

The only missions I really didn't like were the Pug 206 in Paris and the Superbird at Seattle. On my first run through of the game, I passed 34 after about 20 attempts and didn't really lend any credit to the people saying the PAL version was easier than the NTSC version. However, on my second run through, I passed it on my second attempt, by just over half a second. The lap was clean up until I passed the 5th placed car, which cause me to leave the track (having to move offline to pass it). From there I made a few other small mistakes, but still managed to win. Now I believe the people who say PAL is too easy for mission 34.

A little off topic, but to the people before who were discussing instant messenging clients, Trillian could be a handy piece of software to use. It consolidates all your IM clients into one; no need for 3 or 4 running, clogging up your CPU, RAM and systray...

Hmm, this feels good. I completed M34 last night and with it achieved 100%. M34 was not so bad I caught up with the SL at right following the end of the long straight. The bravery went out of the window and I just stayed just behind and to the side beating him in a drag race to the line -0.6s. If this had been another attempt and/or there was not a 2 minute wait at the start I reckon I would have been 2+secs ahead at the line.

Steven

P.S M14 at Seattle was the one I disliked the most.

They say your most hated mission or hardest mission is the one you are on. For me that is mission 13.

It could also be said that your favorite mission is the one you have just completed. For me that is mission 34.

What a f^#$&ing joke. My best times have gone like this 17 secs down, 13, 9.9, 7, 4.5, 3, victory by approx 2 (still have not checked). I reckon my victory lap was as good as the 13 sec one.

Nothing seemed to be going right. The splits that I watch for were all garbage. T5 was 1.03 if I remember right. Luckily I came up on my first and second victim at places where I managed a pass with little trouble (i had to brake to stop hitting my second victim). Came up on the black B@#% a little too late - thought I had stuffed it but decided to battle on.

Based on Daan's video I wanted to start the main straight in 3rd place not battling for third. In the end I had to run wide to pass for third at the start of the straight so I thought I had stuffed it but kept going.

In the end I did this

It is the first time I have cheated through here with no penalty.

If I was able to I would post the video in the comedy forum. My drive was total garbage but I won. Now I actually feel sorry for the NTSC crowd.

Edit: margin was 1.5 secs. T5 was 1.01 (don't know how I got that quick). But that time is poor considering I deliberately cut the grass at Hochelchen and Adenauer Forst. I changed my braking plan for Schwedenkreuz and nailed an e-brake turn at Bergwerk so I assume that is where I made up my time. I had accidentally grass hopped at a few other places where it would have slowed me down.

I also think I had removed the stress. I concluded that I had enough underlying pace and that long sessions would not be required. I had decided to do 2 runs a day rather than the 6-8 done on previous occasions. I tested my new brake points on a free run and put in a very poor mission run (7 secs down) but had decided that all runs were to be completed for practice.

The run I got it with I would have exited from as I did not know how close I was. I still got over excited when I knew I was in with a show.

i still havent passed mission 34 but so far i think it is the best mission in the hall. This is because it dilivers a challenge to my GT4 world. The only mission that i hate is the one with the muscle car race that i just cant stand the bad suspension that those cars have. the rest of the mission i loved they give me a good time to let my anger come out and curse my tv, ps2 control. as for having to wait 2'3" for it to start this just gives me time to eat and just go check whats on tv real quick.

For the 11.. You should consider making proper turns more important than speed..

So, brake a little earlier, turn a little smoother, and then you got it. You should not push it too hard, as you'd not get through the series of corners as fast as you would have otherwise.

I finaly compleated #12 after probably 10 restarts in a row I managed to nail the thing and actually beat the lead car by 4 seconds. It was something in this thread (that I can no longer find) about positioning the car right. I concentrated in the ol' slow in fast out techniquie. Ive now got about 5 missions to go and looks like im going to have the same fun on the Oprah track with the Purgeot - and the Seattle with the Superbird - both cars I would never dream of buying let alone racing in!! Then theres Mission 34 Ive actually got high hopes for this one, tried it once and 'only' lost by 14 seconds and this includes a rather large wipe out whilst trying a rather ambitious over-taking manouver.

I've only done Missions 1-10, but I HATED The Trial Mountain Pass. I just couldn't get the angle right to pass him in the Tunnel and would always slam into him and get a penalty for it. I only pased the test when I understeered so badly I carried us both into the far wall. I felt like I had cheated pretty badly, but I was so glad that I'd finally gotten through it that I wasn't complaining,

I am SO glad Driving Missions don't affect your Status (ie failing to win doesn't take away from Win Ratio)

I was very big headed further back about m34 as i passed it first time, admittidly only by 2 seconds (rammed him off the road by accident) but who the hell managed to do the Superbird 3 lap battle at Seattle and the first 3 lap battle on New york i think? Any one wanna come round and do it for me before i throw my PS2 around the room. Im usually a calm person but GT4 is bringing our the worst in me!!! any tips?

Mission 34 is kicking my butt. Deploying all the dirty moves in the book (lawnmowing, wallriding -- I didn't even know *how* to wallride before I started M34, and I've been playing GT since '99), I can blast through the Ring in practice mode in a stock SLR (with the driving aid settings that have been posted here) as fast as 7:02. But in the mission itself, it seems like the stupid whale is even *more* unstable. I think they swapped the springs for Superballs. The closest I've come is 3rd place, six seconds back (that's with a 5 second penalty trying to pass the SL65 in the carousel).

I know I can do it if I put a clean run together, but this car is so touchy it's very hard to run mistake-free for seven minutes. And waiting two minutes after a blown run is just... Polyphony is evil.

I thought the RUF Complex String time trial in GT3 was hard. That was a cakewalk compared to this. Maybe I should just pretend I own the PAL version and move on...

Seattle: Brake EARLY and OFTEN. The Buick is much faster than you in a straight line, so don't even try to out-drag him. Instead, you have to beat him through the corners. Which, in the Superbird, is a tall order. The Superbird corners like a dump truck. The key is braking technique. If you slam on the brakes, you'll just slide into the wall. If you're using a controller, tap the brakes rapidly instead of mashing the button -- that helped me immensely. Slow down *before* the corner, then ease on the throttle through the turn. (Oversteer can be your friend in this mission, if you can control it.)

New York: Momentum is everything in this one, as the Toyota doesn't have much motor. Take all the 90-degree corners as wide as possible (use the whole road side-to-side) and slow down as little as you can. The most important part is the circle -- try to stay above 45 mph through the whole thing and mash the gas as soon as you have a clear path to the top straight. If you can nail the circle all three laps, you've got a great shot at winning.

Seattle isnt hard,

brake early and drive smooth and its possible to overtake the buick before the end of the 2nd lap.

For some strange reason, the NSX mission round Suzuka is my bete noir. I passed M34 on my second attempt! (although I had raced the Nordschliefe a lot, in different cars)

Yeah, also make sure you use the entire width of the road on the superbird mission. The mission at New York just takes time getting used to the car and the track. It's all about knowing when and how much to brake. If you think those two missions are harder then Nurburgring, I'm guessing you don't have to wait the torturous 2 minutes and 3 seceonds that I had to go through. M11 and M14 was soo freaking easy compared to M34.

Ok. Mission hall now complete and with it 100%.

Most hated mission = 14.

Mission 34, 11 and 13 were similar in that the more I did them the more I improved - it was a continuous process until I got them. I never lost hope on these three as I knew I was heading towards them.

Mission 14 I really struggled with and at times went backwards.

Strange thing is that with all of them my victorious run was not error free and I know I could and probably will go faster in them.

I know some people have struggled with mission 11 but for some reason I found it easy. Very good tip - corners are to be taken at 47mph or 35mph (it should be obvious which is which. Adjust braking points to attain these speeds and the mission is yours. Also early turns ie get very close to the inside walls - suspension will soak up the rumble strips.

I hated mission 14, with american muscle via Super Bird, nottin' but pain with that slippery turning like driving in oil or somethin' and the rival, buick special '62
now goin' to complete them all, with my experience (lol)

G.T
Yeah, that was annoying too. I was 0.046 seconds from overtaking the 360 once. 🤬

I managed that one this evening. After doing #1-#10 I am working my way backwards through the missions from #34. After losing about ten times by 0.2 seconds and then 0.020 seconds I finally thrashed it by a whopping 0.003secs :sly:

Missions 11, 12, 13, 14 were fun, at least you could click restart if you had a bad turn...

... hits a penalty half way in mission 34, do I finish the lap for practice or do I restart?? I wish there was a fast forward button for the wait time. 💡
