fellow GTP's what do feel will be the most important technology in 2005? With both new hardware and software breakthroughs on the way what do you believe will be most important and tell us why. 👍 💡 👎

I take the dual-core processor, as that is an important part for all computers. They will be needed for servers and gamers will need one for the best framerates. Then, they will also end up at your local Best Buy.

Also, more 64 bit operating systems will be needed for the 64-bit computers out there.

Dual graphics cards are pretty neat, but very pricey. I think it will take a couple years before this will get enough use.

And right now most people don't need larger hard drives. For most people 2 200GB HDs is large enough. What is needed is faster HDs. I like the SATA II offerings from Seagate. They are pretty fast and you don't get the ribbon cables that ATA HDs have.

64 bit operating systems to make use of the 64 bit processors on the market. From there, we need dual core 64 bit processors. AMD is already working on one for home use and I'm pretty sure Intel is as well

SLI opens a whole new graphics proccessing level. You can only fit so much processing power in one card, so why not make two and run them at the same time?

I agree, SLI will open many upgrade paths. Buy one reasonably priced card now and buy a discounted one later on to keep up with the new generation of cards.

64bit OS's, for sure. Basically, that will give us better software support. Umm.... hello faster, more reliable processing?!

I think that the most important thing in '05 will be e-mail management. Currently e-mail is WOMBAT, and there's real potential for development of economical and accurate mail management software, both for the indivdiual and the enterprise.

Also, I forgot that internet service needs to improve in the U.S, but that may take a long while.

My connection was just upgraded to 5mbps from 3mbps with great support via Road Runner. Thanks for the responses 👍
