...I'm not sure that there's room for a "real chicane." It would be very nice to see the cars routed around the train tracks, but I don't believe it's feasible to move the surrounding buildings... The surrounding buildings, I believe, are quite permanent.

Ironically, the chicane is there to prevent drivers from being hurt.

High-speed crashes are normally dangerous. The Baltimore street circuit (circuit in question) does not have, well, any run-off area for the safety of the drivers. Then, given that they're going over an extremely bumpy part of the circuit there, with train tracks crossing the road, they feel that it's extremely dangerous.

Precisely. I've seen a couple of times when the flag marshals waved the yellow before the full-course caution was called. This can, on occasion, create chaos, since one flag marshal may not be waving the full-course-caution flag, and the other will be.

I've seen it, maybe twice, where the drivers "don't believe it's a full course caution" until like the third or fourth marshal has their yellow flag up, because some of the marshals are waving them, and some aren't.

To be fair, the chicane actually did it's job there. The crash wasn't a very high speed crash. Especially by the time the SRT Viper got involved. That said re-routing the course around some buildings and simply making the track a little shorter might also help. They really could simply re-route the course up Howard to Lombard Street and then have it drop back down to Pratt at either Hanover or Hopkins Place. That would solve the speed issue more effectively than a chicane would.

Nothing OMG! About it but here it is anyway 👍

Ahhh, French commentators... They see the crash "There, there, look there! It's the Toyota of Stéphane Sarrazin! What is it that is happened?!"

[Original: «Là, là, violà! O, C'EST LE TOYOTA DE STEPHANE SARRAZIN! Qu'est-ce qui c'est passé?!»]

The change of intonation, do the French show a bias in their motorsports broadcasting? ...No, I wouldn't dream of that.

And then they blame it on the Lotus. Though I agree, it didn't take long for them to point fingers. "...Oh, the driver of the Lotus has lost control for a moment..."

[Original: «O, le pilot du Lotus a perdu contrôle un moment...»]

My cousins were visiting while I was watching that race. It was such a boring race until the last lap. :scared: The fact that, as far as I know, no one got a penalty, is just as astonishing, and deserves its own OMG/WTF moment mention.

Oh, and Max, it's the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park now. :indiff: :ouch:

*chicane discussion*

I agree with this, but would it work, feasibly, with pit lane and such?

Well, they aren't wrong. The Lotus did lose control for a moment. Unfortunately the Toyota was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Oh, and Max, it's the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park now. :indiff: :ouch:
It's Mosport until someone pays me to call it otherwise. :sly:

Those Baltimore chicane remind me of poorly done replicas of Surfer's Paradise's main straight chicanes...

Which also turns into a nightmare every year.

Worn clutch, 4 laps, 33 overtakes anyone? Why is this dead in Australia?

Wow, pathetic top level driving standards,

x2
Not that the tracks helps.

No money from Ford. The series ran this year without the backing but can't keep up with the costs. I think that is how I read it.

Well, no, But Champ car did that pitiful excuse of a street course in Miami a few years in a row, and only one car was totaled, Indy on the gold coast was cleaner,

As for the formula Ford scene, I think its BS that they can't operate without financial backing from ford, Its a racing series, You purchase/ Lease a car, you then turn up, practice/ qualify/ race, go home, That will nearly put Spectrum into bankruptcy,

But Champ car did that pitiful excuse of a street course in Miami a few years in a row...

I've driven along that section of Biscayne Boulevard a few times, and it's kind of daunting and ridiculous at 25 miles an hour.

Kind of like this, at 0:54...

  1. formula cars getting airborne (well, are they?)
  2. The track layout
  3. The crash

...And it's relevant to what Pupik and Dave were discussing. I feel it's a fair post.

Well yes I quoted that Miami circuit, I think it was Oriol Servia who caught the bumps worse, clouted the wall,

Bopop, Watch it again, look at how violent Paul Tracy's head slams up and down every minute or so, he does that section twice on the onboard footage,

Rally copilot fixes broken accelerator by sitting on the engine and accelerating manually

I was there for this. I'm not entirely sure the video does it justice...

He was ambulanced off as a precaution but escaped with bruising.

My favorite part is the driver has the "safety first" flash through his mind and puts his belts on tight!

The rally dricer, or co-driver, is insane!

Sorry if this is off topic...

Man, that's insane! This guy is one brave fellow, getting inside the engine bay and trying to get the engine back on track and not afraid of the heat of the engine nor outside. Major props! 👍

Great Safety Car guys!

Where is the safety car or even a yellow flag?! I mean, everyone was all over the track and cutting other drivers off and stuff... And no safety cars?! WTF?!
