Mozilla Firefox

I'm currently using 3.6.13 and I have absolutely no complaint about it. Such a powerful browser! Eventhough I haven't tried the Opera Browser, but I honestly satisfied enough with Firefox. I agree though, it takes up a whole lot of RAM...

You can only see a reload/refresh icon when the page has loaded, the only time I ever need a reload button is when the page has not loaded properly, hence the whole function is a useless piece of crap with firefox 4. In firefox 3 you can create your own icon and place it in the toolbars, there is no icon in FF4.

Hit the X to stop the page loading and it becomes a refresh.

Yeah, it'll take a bit of getting used to, but it's pretty good so far.

Ah right, so in effect, it's a double click to refresh. Shame it wasn't obvious.

It is possible to have separate buttons depending on your layout. On my setup it only combines the stop/refresh button if I don't have text labels enabled. Right clicking an empty bit of the tool bar and selecting customise and then changing it to show icons and text gives both buttons.

Or it's easy enough to remember that esc works and stop and F5 works as refresh 👍

Indeed. Having said that, I have only icons in use but have the entire button selection - Back, Forward, Refresh, Stop and Home visible. This is 3.6.15 however so that might make the difference.

I do not know if this is a discussion thread, but here's my input: most of you are aware about the newest version 4.0 but it is beta. So far, this version is looking almost like Google Chrome -- or am I dreaming?!

Yeah 3.X still keeps the buttons separate it's 4 that has merged them.

So the final release of Firefox 4 came out a few hours ago and its had about a million downloads so far. I'm about to download but can anyone tell me if updating to 4.0 will delete my browsing history because theres stuff I still need to revisit and bookmark.

Thanks

As far as I know Firefox 4 retains the old history(I knowthat what Firefox 4 Beta and RC did it for me). You could try updating from the browser or just installing it in a different folder.

Thanks 👍 I think it should be ok if you didn't loose your history going up the versions.

Nope, straight forward update and keeps everything. Does a quick compatibility check of addons and such before it runs and then it carries on as normal, in fact it even restored the last session on machines I've updated.

Three years ago FF3.0 set a record with 8 million downloads in 24 hours. Firefox now has approximately 400 million users. I wonder how many downloads they'll get this time?

Firefox download stats here

As I write this they're downloading over 3000 copies a minute.

I might be late to the party but Firefox just had me update to version 4.0. First thing I noticed and really like is the screen space you have now. Everything at the top of the screen is condensed quite a bit. 👍

I've started noticing that sometimes clicking a link on a page takes me to the previous page instead of the link address. so lets say I'm on page 1, then go to page 2, if I click a link on page 2 I'll get thrown back to page 1 and not page 3.

Ive been using FF for years and this just started happening. Only problem I've ever had.

That is a weird one, I know backspace does that and of course extra buttons on a mouse....

If you find a fix for it do post it, it would be intresting to know what you do or change to over come it!

I've used Firefox for 3-4 years now. I've tried all the browsers that Microsoft offers in the Other Browsers box and none of them IMO are as powerful or as useful as Firefox. I nabbed the 4.0 beta and within 10 minutes of usage I really wanted the full release. On my system at least I found the speed improvement over 3.6 to be huge. This was a system that had cookies still saved from about Christmas time!

EDIT: Also, for the enviroment I work in I have to dial into customers servers and routers etc. Doing this with Internet Explorer for some reason beyond me on the routers we sell is like being on dial up. Firefox has everything loaded in a much more realistic 21st century time frame! That was a big surprise to me when I was frowned apon for using IE in a workplace!

It's the reason why I always bring my laptop to college. I feel sick to the stomach for using IE due to the already slow PC's(the lower class Pentium CPU's are not good) at college and in general a slow browser.

My school used internet explored up untill this year when they finally changed to mozzila.

Depending on your position in the school (do you sit at the back of the class messin around, or do you know some teachers highish up in the college who you could speak to about it. Its free for them and if you can put up a good case then they might be happy to improve the students lives.

Just done the same, boy is it fast. Need to have a look through some of these add-ons, etc.

Liking the layout, looking very slick.

Just upgraded to Firefox 4.0.1. Downloaded Smartest Bookmark, Smooth Scrolling and a brand new Carbon Fibre Persona, everything seems to be very good!

Despite that, something from the Firefox has caused a couple of crash to my ATI Graphic and led my laptop to the blue screen of death. It's happened for 4 times already.

I've been on IE9 for a while now and I've had less issues with it compared to Mozilla's newest iterations. Browser competition is great, I would've never thought of going back to IE.
