I was wondering when Mugen would finally stick the 4.0L into a street car. Too bad it's only a concept, and too bad Honda doesn't want a V8 in any of its cars.

That is one hot car 👍

I bet Honda puts a V8 in the new RL at some point. I mean, there is only so far you can take V6 technology in a normal street car. I mean, the new Infiniti M45, the Audi A6, the BMW 5, and Jag S-type, just to name a few, all have V8 options. I like the new RL, and think its great how it is. But, in order to stay competitive with the others, a V8 is almost required.

Well, around 9100-9500 rpm, but I mean those cars only last for around 500miles, but just imagine an everyday v8 engine doing 9500rpm all the time.

This is FAR from an "Everyday V8" though, thats the problem. Its a race engine put into a street car. The engine is from the ALMS and JGTC. The only thing close to that these days is the Ferrari V8 in the 430, which will do 8500rpm. Thats about it.

Racing V8s are very nice, yes, but I think you're all missing the real revolutionary nature of this car: It's a RWD V8 Honda!
MrktMkr1986
But they also turn closer to 750 horsepower and are about 351 cubic inches in size...
I thought the NASCAR spec was 7L (427cid)?

(cough) ehmm......s2000? 9000rpm. 240hp from a 2.0L (they are increasing it's displacement to 2.4L this year though. I think that is an excellent engine on a small scale. Maybe if they doubled it they would have a nice straight 8.

Good god, that is one very beautiful honda! I'd be proud to drive that, even though i absolutely hate just about anything honda. I wouldnt mind being seen in that one, though.

(cough) I know (cough) We were talking V8's, not everything available. I would have brought up the S2k and RX8 if anything were game. But, the Ferrari V8 is the only V8 in a standard street car that revs that high. And, by the way, the S2k engine was changed last year, for '04 models, not the '05 models (From the F20C to the F22A). And, it was changed to 2.2L, not 2.4L. And, the rev limit now with that new engine is only 8000rpm, since we're talking about it.

Only half-right; that's for the American market. The European cars are sticking to the 2.0L, and I'm not sure if the JDM cars made the change either.

Yes, correct. Non US and CAN cars are sticking with the F20. But, we here in North America got the new engine. And he was referring to the change, thus meaning the NA market cars. Thats why I brought it up.

I didn't realize you were talking v8's only. Then yes the ferrari is the only one that pops to mind that has good volumetric efficiency.

Looks at your avatar...isnt that an integra?

I want that engine in the next NSX.

It's ok, I'm not a fan of high whinny V8's though. Plus you know how annoying that would be to drive around the city in stop and go traffic? I wouldn't want to, hell I find the S2000 annoying to drive in the city.

The only thing that car is good for would be road racing, which I think it would do quite nicely at. But as a street car it isn't very good.

I'll stick to my 350's for my V8.

I think the engine would work great on the street as long as you keep the revs low. This is a honda engine after all.

I don't get why you guys are talking about this like its a real street car???? The car is just a fun project car, obviously not meant for production. Yes, it would almost certainly suck around town. The engine is meant for race cars, not daily drivers. I'm sure it would be driveable, but the point of the engine is high power output for racing, not all around performance. It would be like driving around a car with a bit turbo on it. Yea, it makes a lot of power, but only when full throttle and spooled up. You can drive it around, it just won't make much useable power cruising around. This engine in this Honda should make some decent power down low since its a V8, so I'm sure it would be somewhat driveable, but I doubt you'd want to. But, in reality, its just a crazy project car, with a crazy race engine in it. The chance of anything even close to this showing up is about as likely that we'll see a version of that X5 with the V12 Le Mans engine in it. Yea, it was a neat car, and fast as hell. It will just never be sold. Just a toy.
