^That I agree with some. Alot of people love the Corvette not for just being a car that can keep up with a Porsche. Some love it b/c of it becoming America's first Sports Car.

The reason Americans love cars like the Corvette is because of the price, Fourty grand buys you a car which can go head to head with an 80 grand porsche. The interior is just good enough to live with. Americans love value. European cars are better handling and have better interiors but at a huge cost.
Yep it's because of price. If the Vette was priced at $80,000; then expect a nice fancy interior and no cheap parts.

Heck for the extra 40 thousand you could slaughter a whole herd to appolster(spelling?) erdo the interior. I think it's nice to remember that the race cars most of us fantisize about have horrendoesly uncomfortable interiors. This subject reminds me wrx sti's interior in america, it doesnt have a sterio installed because most of the americans buying it would just pull it out.

The interior on the new C6 has been improved greatly, and considering that the base
2005 (C6) is actually $1,300 less than the base 2004 (C5) Corvette.

Interior 1

Interior 2

And the reason why I love Corvettes is because I grew up loving them and currently work at one of the largest Chevy dealerships in Michigan, I get to drive corvettes almost every day.

I also love watching them dominate GTS class in the Lemans series

Interior is pretty nice.

Plus the C6 comes with the sweet 6speed which used to be extra on the C5!

America loves the Corvette, they will defend it till the end of the earth, but they need to realise they're the only ones. Everyone else sees it for what it is and more importantly what it isn't... it's true.

That interior looks like cheap, look at all the plastic, the ugly wheel and the unsporty looking dials. Even the aluminium effect plastic looks bad. Sorry I have neved liked the Corvette, I love it's sound but that's it.

Could you please clarify what you mean by this? Hey why can't everyone here be friends? Come on we could all get together and make fun of Miata's or Vit's. :)

Does it ****.

When was the last time you saw another car get up on it's hindlegs up to another. More importantly do Euro cars ****?

Whether you like the C6 corvette or not I believe it is a worthy car for GT4 👍

I think it's ignorant to believe that America is not capable, or does not have the skill to build a car that is equal to anything the World can produce. The issue is simply one of goals and target consumers. America intentionally builds a certain quality vehicle in order to keep prices at a desired level. It's about compromise.

I'm not sure America really cares if our vehicles are well accepted in Europe. The fact that we don't build to fit Europe's mold of what a car should be, pretty much tells you we don't look to Europe as a needed market. The average American isn't interested in paying tons of money for a vehicle. We want affordable performance that the "regular guy" can obtain. I don't know if I've ever even heard European's use th eterm "bang for the buck", but it's our motto  .

I, for one, wouldn't dish out $150,000 for a car that will get stomped by a $35,000 just so I can say I own a (whatever). I'm just not that vain. I believe the recent Top Gear showed that the new Ford GT ranked 3rd on it's track time list, losing out only to vehicles 3 to 4 times as expensive, yet still beating the Ferrari.

You Europeans have some nice cars at the high end (hundreds of thousands of dollars), but what does the average guy ride around in? THAT's what you should be comparing to. I see 15-20 Corvettes a DAY. Mustangs are everywhere. Camaro's and Firebirds as well. These are what the average guys owns. 50% of my car local club (over 200 members) has 400hp or more in their daily driver, with many of us having over 500hp. These are regular guys with regular jobs. Why? Because America makes fun cars affordable.

If you guys are all driving around in Lambo's and Ferrari's, then you've accomplished something. If you and your neighbor own a 4 cyl 100hp econobox that needs help getting up a hill with the AC on, then you really don't have a lot of room to talk smack.

Exactly Lethalchem; I agree with you 100%. Here in America, the average Joe can afford a fairly costing car and get amazing performance. We don't really care about interiors, we just want bang for the buck and Camaros, Firebirds, Mustangs, and Corvettes are perfect examples of that.

Yes and that's why america will keep producing cars that only america want. You can keep your corvette, I respect the car but even a load of americans say it's a rip off, to be able to push the rear panel over the lights and flex it over an inch is unacceptable, hellwhat does that say about the rest of the car ?!

Broaden your horizons and look outside the patriotic box and you will see their is much better out there.

I know there is much better, but most people can't afford it.

What do you drive?

i just thought id point out that alot of people will buy a corvette for the power or image than a nice looking interior plus if i owned a C6 id strip out the interior to lighten the car anyway i could care less if it were cheap plastic or no plastic the lighter the better

I absolutely will. Hmm I wonder why america loves the Corvette. Maybe because it is a good car (gasp Nooo, thats not possible! ). I would defend the corvette that far and you know what it does have a good sporting Pedigree, the C5-R is a lemans beast. And our American sports cars are actually reliable, unlike the British and italian cars have traditionally been(I don't think any of us can mess with the Germans or japanese reliability wise).

Subaru Impreza Turbo

And my point is made. :sly:

Or rather aj's is.

My brother just bought a Subaru Impreza WR1. At £28,995 ($50,000) it cost less than a Z06 Corvette did when it was last sold in the UK - remember that on average we pay half as much again for our new cars than you do - and would happily spank it from here to Tuesday in a straight line (0-62mph in 4.2s; 0-100mph in 10.67s) and round a track, and then on a rally track too, with a passable interior and a driver-adjustable centre differential.

I see about 4 Imprezas a day, and I only drive a round trip of 6 miles to and from work. And they're usually different ones.

Thing is, I appreciate the Corvette - and similar US cars - for everything it is. Lots of bang for your buck. And _aj's opinion on the new 'Vette does seem to have come straight from Top Gear. But there are better cars, and even better cars for your money. The Impreza is one of them - yet you give it a disdainful response. Is that because it's a Japanese car with a 4 cylinder - albeit Boxer - engine?

Oh, and comparing the Ford GT to cars "3 or 4 times more expensive" as good value for money makes little sense when the Ford GT is £100,000+ ($178,000+).

Uh the US version is 30,000 so you British drivers are getting a raw deal from subaru. Plus I think he meant the regular WRX which would get killled by a vette.

But of course I agree that the wrx and its sti sibling is an excellent buy. It's alot like the vette interms of good value for an excellent performing vehicle with mediocre interior. I think the only thing us Americans dont like about it is that it is not american.

Famine just said cars are about 1 and a half times more expensive over here, ofcourse were getting a raw deal. The new Vette doesn't seem too good in a straight line compared to modern cometition especiall from the likes of TVR, however it is the first Vette barring the Z06 that I feel has proper track ability as a road car.

Famine

Uh, he said your cars are half as expensive? The only car prices I really know between US and the UK are of the STi so I don't really know overall. I know that the UK has a much more expensive 2.0L engine whereas we have a cheaper 2.5.

No, he said "half as much again", that means one and a half times as much.

Queston: How did we get from muscle cars to the Corvette to this?

Anyways, a '67 Z'28 would be nice.

Wow I need to learn real english, or you all need to learn american. either way that was a wierd way to say one and a half. Or maybe one and a half is a wierd way of saying half as much again!!!

We got from the Corvette to this becuase the new Corvette has just featured on TopGear, it was praised and slated at the same time, it performed well on the track but it's made with ancient technology, and it's on sale here in the UK for over £40k.

Whats that in US$? I know it is about $40,000 here.
