On the cover of John Mayall's The Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton album, what is Clapton doing?

The answer is "reading a magazine titled "Beano"

And now my next question. An easy one, let's see if anyone under the age of 25 knows it...

"Who are the Tres Hombres"?

Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Rhodes.

Now, for my question: who are Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and Dusty Rhodes?

Bonus Points: These men were offered a million dollars to do something perfectly legal, and they refused. What was it and who made the offer?

Bonus Points for Gil: what is so interesting about the first gentleman in particular?

Are they not the members of ZZ Top? I think the $1m offer was for them to shave off their beards, although the ironically-named Frank Beard (the drummer) is clean-shaven.

Phew! Quite fast there, Mr. Guthrie. Very good. Half marks for the bonus points, too. Make the obvious guess about who made the offer and you can score 100%.

Would that be Playboy?

Anyway, do I get to go now?

Billy is the guitar player, Has a strong affinity for Gibson Les Paul guitars. His '59 is his baby. He also loves Ground-Pounding High displacement custom autos.

Actually, it was Gillette that offered ZZ Top $1mil to shave, for a Trac II commercial. But they turned it down (what's a million bucks to you, when you have Boyd Coddington on retainer)...

So Giles is up to bat, because he was first to correctly identify that they were ZZ Top. The rest was just for fun.

HEY, GIIIIIIII-LLLLLLLLLES!

Gil, you're also correct in everything you said about Billy "I'm bad, I'm nationwide" Gibbons. The real tidbit I was looking for is this: he uses a peso coin for a pick.

But if GG doesn't show up soon, I say go for it.

OK... What connects a caravan of love, "Dub Be Good To Me", Domino's and Christopher Walken?

I'm going to take a shot in the near-dark and say, "Norman Cook"?

"Caravan of Love" is a Housemartins song (or the title of their second album, I forget), "Dub Be Good" was Cook's first real dance hit, "Pizzaman" is another Cook alter-ego, and Cristopher Walken was in the Weapon of Choice video.

I admit to cheating a little by using the 'net to confirm some of the backup information, but I made the first answer off the top of my head, with no research.

I also admit to being woefully under-knowledgeable about Mr. ex-Housemartin, other than the couple things I've heard on the radio. What's a good album to get?

I got one that may be a bit of a stumper:
What jazz bassist reportedly ate fried chicken before each gig so his hands would be slick enough to "fly" on the neck of his fretless Fender Bass?

'Nother Bonus question:
What other guitarist from the '70's and 80's uses a coin as a pick?

Spot on! The interesting thing about Dub Be Good To Me was that in spite of it being number one in like 50 countries, they lost money on it because of all the samples!

The Weapon of Choice video is a stonker, isn't it! Impressed that you got the Domino's reference.

I don't actually rate his albums, because he's much more of a single track guy. That said, track down "Everybody loves a filter", and the Fatboy Slim remix of Cornershop's "Brim Full of Asha" (the fully 7+ minute one). PM me if you want some assistance on finding these.

Hrm, OK, I guess it's time for me to come up with a question now... I'll have to think a bit.

Damn, I thought of a really good one, but I forgot it. I'll have to revive this thread by asking:

Who are the Mothers Of Invention? I don't need names, except for one.

And Gil, sorry, but I've got no clue on any of your questions.

Frank Zappa!

Question coming...

Now, I know Duke knows this...but...

Can you tell me the Wife's name who took away the car keys from a Famous singer who then drove his John Deere Riding mower to the bar?

AO

Actually Rossell, you've got to answer my question first, then ask yours.

Craig David. Video "What's Your Flava"

he's the latest R&B singer from Britain.

Bonus points, Not a clue. Now back to the previous post...

Can you tell me the Wife's name who took away the car keys from a Famous singer who then drove his John Deere riding mower to the bar?

AO

Can't tell you the wife's name but I imagine the reference is to a Vince Gill song; "one more last chance"

Answer to question #2 How do you know when the stage is level?
The drummer/guitar player drools out of BOTH sides of his mouth.

Funny answer to the stage leveling question.

But Vince Gill is not the person I'm looking for.

AO

Der Alta: Not exactly the latest. He's been around for 2 years - but he's good.

Answer to the bonus question: Craig David is addicted to watching Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. While he was on tour, he watched it after every gig,

What about George Jones? He's also in the Vid.
driving home on a John Deere lawn tractor. Wife name: unknown.

Since no one has answered...The person in question is Jaco Pastorius.

Very close. Blackie is also a "Frankenstein" Guitar. It was made up from the best parts of about 5 "bargain bin" Strats: body from one, neck from another, pick-ups from yet another.

I guess I will have to hit Best Buy to pick up the album.

Another guitar question: What is cool/strange about Susan Tedeschi's guitar? (She is the wife of Derek Trucks, a young slide player heavily influenced by The Allman Bros.)She is a very talented blues singer and guitar player.

You guys played me off on this one too.
Her guitar is a Blue Tele covered with colorforms of Winnie-the-Pooh characters. When you see the album cover you won't think it's a blues number.

Man, Gil, I'm drawing a blank on this one. Can you give me a hint - nationality, maybe?

You are correct, it is George "No Show" Jones. The wife in question was Tammy Wynette, before she left him for good, and subsequently died.

OK - since we've got multiple subthreads going here, I'll ask another one:

Danny Elfman is famous as the composer of the Batman movie score, the Simpsons theme, and various other high-profile soundtrack orchestrations. Can anybody tell me what he did before that?
