Question: Name the original Pink Floyd lineup.

Repeat of Bonus: The Who's first big hit, My Generation, is famous for its divebombing bass solo played by John Entwistle.

A) What kind of bass did he play it on?

B) What happened during the recording session that almost prevented the single from getting taped?

You are correct to the best of my knowledge. David Gilmore replaced Barret on guitar sometime around 1969 after Syd fried his brain with so much LSD that he was only good for basket weaving after that.

Even Pako isn't biting on my bonus questions, so I'll just answer them myself.

Entwistle played the My Generation solo on a Danelectro bass, a company made popular by two-fingered guitarist Django Reinhart, among others.

During the first real recording session, Entwistle broke a string during the solo. Replacement strings were nowhere to be found, at least not in the time frame that they had the studio available.

So, his only choice was to buy another bass, upon which he broke another string... eventually they ended up buying four bass guitars before they got the final take that was released as their first hit.

Actually, Klos posted earlier about lamers who took more than 24 hours to come up with the next question, so I'd say the floor is open for whoever has one. Which might as well be me:

Who played guitar on David Bowie's popular 1981 album Let's Dance?

Would that be Stevie Ray Vaughn?
He was Bowie's Guitar man for a bit during that time frame.

Give that man a guitar. Bowie saw him at a club appearance in New York, before the recording of Texas Flood, and hired him to be session man for the Let's Dance album. At first glance you could hardly imagine an odder combination of artist and material.

Good call, and fast, Gil!

Thank you, Duke.
My question:
What did Eric Clapton get B.B. King to do on "Riding with the King" that nobody has gotten him to do for years, if at all?

And for Bonus points? What two Recording Artists got their starts on American Daytime television?

Ummm, I'll take a shot in the dark here: play a Fender guitar. Or, more generically, play a guitar other than 'Lucille'.
What two Recording Artists got their starts on American Daytime television?
Rick Springfield of Working Class Dog fame was an Aussie or New Zealander (I believe) imported to work the soaps. Specifically, General Hospital unless I'm mistaken.

Hooo, I don't know about the other, but I have to guess Corey Hart.

Duke you are correct. Clapton got B.B. to record with an acoustic on one track.

You got half of what I was looking for on the bonus.
Rick Springfield is correct.

The other recording star was/is a one hit wonder and came from the same show. He is also married to his former on-air love interest. That should give it away totally.

OK, will stick with the same vein:

What is the only acoustic guitar track ever recorded by Stevie Ray Vaughn?

Sorry, not a clue. I'm going to have to settle for half marks on the bonus question.

The phone number listed in Tommy TuTone's only hit, Jenny.

That was a gimme - none the least of which is that song hit the radio in 1982, the year I went to college. It so happened that the local exchange was "867". Of course 900 new freshmen all called it, so it was disconnected pretty quickly.

That's probably the song that created the stupid "555" rule for all fictitious phone numbers.

I'm not gonna read the entire thread, so these may be a repeat questions:

1) Who was Eric Clapton's "Layla" written about?

2) What was the name of Stevie Ray Vaughan's main Stratocaster?

Bonus:

B1) Jimi Hendrix served in which branch of the armed forces?

Double bonus:

B2) Why was Jimi honorably discharged?

Triple Bonus:

B3) Jimi Hendrix played guitar in the Little Richard band in the early 60's. Little Richard fired him from the group for what reason?

Oreo Cookie Blues with Lonnie Mack
"Choclit on my fingers, Icing on my lips, Sugar diabetes and Blubber on my hips.
I keep a nite lite on in the kitchen baby, so I can go on downstairs and cruise. I got them Oreo creme sandwiches, choclit covered, creme filled cookie blues...."

Jack Wagner with the song "All I need".

1. His true love and one of his wives Patti. Formerly married to Beatle George Harrison.

2. Number one.

Bonus 1. Jimi was in the Army. Special Forces, I thnk. I know he jumped out of airplanes.

I'll leave the others for Duke.

Bah.

I wasn't able to use my computer for four days.

I suck at being non-hypocritical.

By the way, Gil, you're on deck - I asked JT to post those questions on my behalf, because I didn't have any good ones. You answered him correctly so it's your turn.

On the Bonus questions, yes, Jimi was a paratrooper. I think he was honorably discharged after breaking his leg in a jumping accident. Also, I believe Jimi was fired from Little Richard's band for drinking. LR got God in a big way and gave up a lot of his old rock-n-roll ways, even changing the words of one of his hits to "great gosh a-mighty". As I recall, he required all of his sidemen to be teetotallers.

Jimi was booted from the LR band for the way he dressed. He'd always show up dressed fancier than LR and LR couldn't stand it. At first he'd fine Jimi $200 per gig, but finally decided to kick him out, simply because of the clothes he wore.

You got the others right though ;) Good job.

Thanks,
Is the SRV answer right?

What is Blues Piano player Dr. John's real name?

Bonus: What other instrument does he play?

Yes, it is. Gil is a force to be reckoned with!

Is the SRV: Oreo Cookie Blues answer right?
I just gotta know.
Music is my favorite thing. You could take my PS2, Make me drive a car with an automatic transmission. But don't mess with my access to tunes!

Well, that's a new one to me. The only song I was previously aware of was Life By The Drop on the posthumous collection The Sky Is Crying. The liner notes to that album say imply that it is the only recorded acoustic SRV song.

Check out "Celebration of Blues: Great Acoustic Blues ". It was released by St. Clair Entertainment group out of St. Laurent, Quebec.
I found it at "Best Buy".
The ninth track is "Oreo Cookie Blues" by Lonnie Mack with Stevie Ray Vaughn. One of the Solos is SRV playing slide on either an acoustic or a dobro.
He plays it in true Stevie Ray style too. It smokes!! Especially, on such a humorous tune.:D

I'll have to put The Sky is Crying on my Christmas list. :D
