The owner said it's a good car for people that like to work on cars.

He really, literally said that?!

That guy would be the most hilarious car salesman ever on earth:

"Hey there! Are you interested in our latest Civic model? Do you like working on cars? This car suits you just perfect! You'll have hours of fun trying to fix the car, and while you're trying to fix it, having your fun, we will do our jobs and not bother with your problems. React now! Only 11k! Special offer for you! :sly:"

"Honey, I think we'll get the Matrix anyhow now..."

 Oh man

Avoid the Cavalier and Neon with your last ounce of strength. Cavaliers were and always will be trash, the Neon unless in bigboy SRT4 trim or slightly less girly ACR trim is a bit iffy. Neons like to eat their engines, and they aren't bery manly...

The good news: Resale value on these two (minus ACR/SRT4) is absolutely DIRT. Seriously, you can get a very low mileage one for little or no money. Insurance is cheap as well. The gas mileage however is poor for a car of this type. You're better off with a Focus, Civic, or Protege in this price range. Or a Corolla if you want to be bored to death.

A Toyota without the words Celica or Supra attached to it are complete crap and would definately bore me out of my mind.

Figures the only "good" Neons are the highest trim ones...

New thing. 1997-2003 Ford F150 with a 5.4L V8. I'm going to talk to my boss(scary thought, I know, but it's a farm, so less scary) about if they would sell their F150 we all use over there. Besides the handle to the tailgate being broken and the power mirrors not working, it's in OK shape. Its got a bunch of small dents and scratches, some big scratches, and some paint transfer from a fence post. I was thinking around $2000.

Anybody think I'm making a good move here?

Cavalier? Yes. They get stupidly low mileage, like 23MPG combined.
But the Neon? No. In fact, that answer is the complete opposite from the truth:

And that is despite having more power and torque than all of them.

Gas will kill you, but it will last forever. And be cheap enough to fix.

My rental Neon never averaged that MPG--and I drove it normal. They are still screwed together improperly and will fall apart.

My dad's has gotten 40 highway, and his is likely geared shorter than the one the EPA tested. Also, a couple of years after Dodge got the kinks worked out, they weren't any less reliable than a similar Honda.

WTF? $2,400?

Anybody want to buy a healthy kidney? I an in need of $2,400 suddenly.

I'd like to point out, we get around 2-3 Dodge Rams/F-150/Silverado type trucks traded in daily for more economical cars at work.

You don't realize how badly you will hate yourself for buying something like that when you go to the pumps. It will literally be around $100 (if not more) a week to run that thing as a daily driver.

BACK OFF!!

I have young kidneys, they are much better than yours. Who wants one?

Get the Cavalier, c'mon, you know you wanna ;)

I wonder if Mountain Dew paid for all those INSANELY USEFUL body mods!

Toronado, if I don't get that, I will slap myself. 2400 ain't much at all, I can put 500 down in about a week and then have it close to paid off by the time I grab my liscense in October.

Yes, I want the car to hop into the moment I have my liscense

$2,400 for a 3rd gen of any decent type is a bargain...but that Friebird is just ownage. Due keep in mind your MPG won't be much better than the F150.

And given the way you'd drive that compared to an F-150, probably not better at all.

Well, EPA for highway on the F150 is 17, where the Firebird is 22 or 23. City for the truck, 13, the bird, 15-16. So it's a noticeable bit better, more so on the highway.

The F150 in OD gets up and goes on my little 200 or so yard dash from the farm to the pet resort(owned by the same person). I've gotten to 35 in that space!

Anyway, you're probably right. You would know, would a lightweight flywheel help that V8's throttle response?

My V8 Camaro has a respectable mpg factory [17/26], good luck trying to achieve it. You'll have so much fun driving your Firebird that you'll never get more than 13~15mpg--on a good day. I've got as low as ~8mpg and as high as ~22mpg (over 100,000 miles ago ).

FYI, the 350 TPI gets less mpg than my 305 TBI. And what's even more funny is the 3.1L V6 gets the same mpg as my V8.

And the stereo is sounds awesome in the truck!

Just saw THIS on Autotrader! I shot the owner an email

I demand that you get that car RIGHT NOW before someone else does. Don't wait a week, go and talk to him, tell him you will start paying at the end of the week. You don't want to miss your opportunity.

Where in hell are these cars in upstate New York?

If you don't get that, I will literally slap you.

I will slap him too if he doesn't get it.:D I'll book a flight now just to be prepared.

bah, it's an automatic.. :p

That can be changed! For a nominal fee.:p Friend of my brother's got an auto V8 VR Ute the other day (same model as mine, but SS FTW), and he's swaping in a manual in a couple of weeks. He's in the army so he has cash.

Yes I had a ride in it, yes it was fun, yes it sounds tough.:D

What does TPI and TBI stand for?
It would, but you also lose torque with a lighter flywheel. I'm not really sure who would make one for that thing anyway.
Nevermind.

I shot an email to the owner. That's the best I can do right now.

And I'm gonna have to build myself a little Slap Shelter to save me from you guys! :scared:
bah, it's an automatic.. :p

It's a V8 Firebird leo, I don't care!

Don't even try to tell me it gets crap gas mileage, EPA says it averages the same as a Mustang GT. 18.

It's a damn good thing V6 pony cars only get like 2mpg more than the V8's, otherwise I'd be looking more at those because of gas...

TBI = Throttle Body Injection (2 large injectors over the TB)
TPI = Tuned Port Injection (modern 1 injector per cylinder)

Ahh.

And in other news, guess what isn't on Autotrader anymore...

SE models are the power equivalent to SI models, I believe, and one step below VTEC models. 160 horse engines that make good torque. You could probably talk that price down a bit.

SE is the VTEC model with the Si engine (H23). Leather seats, spoiler, better sound system, and brakes. Different wheels too.

The one in the ad has cloth seats...and the same wheels as the Si with a swapped in VTEC I drove.

Either the one I've driven was way to modded out(I don't doubt this) or that is an Si model, not an SE. A good sound system is ALWAYS a plus. Thanks for the information.

According to Boz, same engine 👍 Being an SE not an Si probably would help just a little in insurance too.

And it's faster than a V6 mustang to 60 by .5 seconds, quicker in the quarter mile by about .6. SWEET
