Look a little harder. The later ones are too common to be valuable.
A note on MKIV Vee-Dubs:
Steer clear of any made before 2003, they're very "iffy" when it comes to quality, and to be brutally honest, it doesn't make a damn difference if they came from Mexico or Germany. They all were, for the most part, crap.
You may be able to find one in good shape, and if you do, grab onto it tightly; They're very hard to find, but that being said, with the nature of the cars, most of the issues should have been shaken out since then.
...Probably...
I still wouldn't get anything older than a 2003, this coming from the VW guy (well, not so much anymore...).
I can't find much under 4,000 from 2003 and older though.
No, you'd be looking at the 8-10K range there. For that kind of money you're likely going to want to look towards an MKIII (1993-1999.5) or a well-kept MKII (1985-1992) to get your money's worth.
MKIIs are cool cars if I do say so myself. But how easy would it be to find parts?
Not too difficult. At the time almost all the parts were the same in almost all of the VWs, minor differences separated some of them. My Fox of the era, for instance, although it was on its on frame... Had a Golf engine and suspension, a Passat/Quantum transmission, and all of the other common parts inside.
With the Jetta/Golf, its pretty much the same deal. Given their age, its going to be a bit more difficult, but they're still pretty easy to find, relatively cheap too.
That is because at any 1 time, there are 4 different 20 year old outdated VWs being made somewhere. They can be found, but you have to import them if you want new.I thought Volkswagen had a world wide program that they never stopped manufacturing parts for any of their cars? If that's true, parts would always be there for the taking.
My cousin has a 2000 sedan auto that she just used to get from point a to b. I havent heard that it has had any problems so it should be reliable but I'm not sure about the fun factor.
Ok, based on slightly more aggressive driving for gas mileage and what not, and a Geico quote for a 1995 Mustang GT, I've got some financial statistics. I calculated all the gas money with 87 Octane running $4.00 a gallon. Here's how it breaks down.
15.4 gallons
270 mpt
30 miles/day
900 miles/month
61.60 to fill up
$205/ month for gas
200/month insurance
$405/month total
Purposely overdid my driving and the miles I can get to a tank so as not to underbudget.
I should be able to make between $520-$580 a month.
That's a lot of money, what you're earning and how much it will cost. I hope you don't like socialising too much![]()
If you get a Focus get a 5dr with a stick. And get one from 2002+. 2000's specifically had a few "issues". Great first car and they can be fun to drive in the twisties. Lackluster acceleration however until you drop the PowerWorks supercharger on that ZETEC to wake it up.
Must have sexy Gen I Focus with ecotec!
Sexy meaning 3 door dropped on black racing rims.
Ecotec = GM, ZETEC/Duratec = Ford. The ZX5/5dr looks better in my opinion. If you have the money I'd get a 2004 model with the 2.3L Duratec--those are pretty decent and have some good aftermarket stuff.

Anybody find it weird that I was quoted the same for a Miata as a Mustang GT?
The GT was quoted as only a little over 200 hp, and it's a pretty old car. However, Miatas are known for being pretty cheap on insurance, aren't they?
However, Miatas are known for being pretty cheap on insurance, aren't they?
Usually, yes. I'm normally quoted around $90-110 a month on the Miata despite its performance capabilities. The Mustang is quite a bit higher... Then again, I'm older and don't have any accidents against my record. Meh.
5 bucks says it sounds like a rubber band.Alright guys, my sister just informed me her friends dad is selling their Prelude. I'm pretty sure it's not the VTEC, so that's all good. Only issue is the AC doesn't work. I figure with open windows I could get by 'till I get the money to fix it.
I believe it's about a '94 'Lude. It's somewhere in the '92-'96 generation
Have any experience with these?
EDIT: Alright, just went and checked it out a bit, really only a little. What I noticed is what I thought, the at least 1 inch drop and nice paint. It's got stock rims and overall looks nice, even has leather interior. I couldn't find the Odometer on the thing through the window, but I did find that it is either an Si or a VTEC. The gauge reads Premium Unleaded Only, so I think it's a VTEC. Got a nice shiny shifter on it tooOnly gripe with it from the looks, it's got your typical coffe can exhaust...
