Problems meeting with Chris to get a test drive date.

It's lookin' like Sunday now

1987 3rd gen? BUY BUY BUY BUY BUY!!!! Do not hesitate. They run forever, and it takes very little money to drop a V8 in it or turbo that V6 for stock V8 beating power. Buy buy buy!

The guy to talk to would be JCE on Third-Gen Camaros. Seems like everyone else on here has more to do with Fourth-Gen models. I've got a First-Gen in my Dad's barn, but thats a different story....

Only thing I know is that the V6 isn't exactly "powerful," but it doesn't sound like a terrible deal. Actually, it sounds like a pretty good deal. Its going to be a good base for whatever you decide to do with it, or better yet, just a good basic Camaro to keep clean and maintain for a while. My car is 10 years newer and I've got 30,000 more miles on it... And thats "low" for a car of my vintage.

The base V6 isn't powerful but well enough fun to have. Plus its a damned Fbody, why not get it?

JCE never seems to be around anymore, he'd be all over this.

I could probably talk him down too because the compressor is not working. I just hope it drives good

Get used to the A/C compressor not working. That and the fan switch turning the fan on when its hot. Other than that it should run forever. I drive the piss out of mine and it is still kicking! Almost 251k miles and still going strong. Make sure you get one with a reasonably good interior as finding an interior in good nick is nearly impossible without shelling out about $200+. Oh, and dynomat or insulate the interior if you want a quiet ride.

So, get some pics up!!!

Final thought: 3rd gen > 4th gen

3rd gen with T-tops = EWWW CHASSIS FLEX.

It's also slow and isn't good enough on fuel to justify its gutlessness.

Look up cheap car in local ads, go see car, transfer money, buy car :)
Okay, so I ended up with the first car I wanted to, not some random car, but I didn't spend half a year thinking pros and cons. If the car hadn't answered to my expectations I had sold it. Why spend so long time on something so simple? Find some cheap cars, compare insurance prices on them and go for the cheapest one. Not what you're asking for and not what you wnated to hear, but it's my advice :)

1. Its an Fbody
2. Its T-Tops
3. Its cool

Who cares if its slow. It will soon be a classic and he will love the car forever. And it doesn't take much to make these cars--even in V6 trim--very fast.

Strike one.

JCE
2. Its T-Tops

Strike two. They rarely seal and they don't help third gens' tendency to be more flexible than an Olympic gymnast.

JCE
3. Its cool

Third gens don't look bad, fair enough, but if you want cool, there are soooo many other options that would make a better first car... That don't have as many drawbacks.

Thing is...

Who wants to spend a decent chunk of change on a 3rd gen when they could have a decent 1st gen? Nobody. The 3rd gens won't be worth much at all in time, and nor will 4th gens.

Also, sure you can make it quick, but... Why? Especially with a T-top car, the 3rd gen's issues will outweigh what benefits it may have (cost).

^ What he said. Much as I'm sure it'd be very nice to have a V6 Camaro on your drive as your first car, you won't be doing it justice buying a cheapo one because it's all you can afford. Better buying something that wasn't as nice to start with but in better general condition, even if it's a bit boring. Drive around in the boring car for a bit until you've saved enough to buy a nice example of a nice car like the Camaro.

I want to, but my dad doesn't approve due to lack of AC/heater. Stupid reasons

It felt faster than the '04 Mustang V6 I get to drive, so it's more than fast enough for me

Damn right! It'd be fast enough for me, there's what counts

The only problems on that Camaro were AC needing Freon, and it needed a heater core, besides that it was a great car.

All in all, I really liked the car, and could easily look past the climate control thing. But my dad isn't approving of it, so that's that. Now, he is going to get a quote for
this
and I'll see how that goes. If the insurance is affordable, I'll be going to look at it, and we'll make some decisions from there

Yep, my dad's 85 Trans Am has some leaking with the T-tops.

Agreed.

And about the whole climate control thing...I've been down in Florida during the summer. It can get BRUTAL. I'm the type of guy that will drive with the windows down at pretty much any opportunity, ranging from like 40 degrees to 95 degrees, but Florida summer heat is just nothing I would try to brave with no AC.

It's not too bad honestly, just have to make sure you bring an extra shirt and deodorant :sly:

I'd say go for it if you really want the car. If anything your wallet might not be happy, but at least you will be.

3rd gen Mustangs are a winner too--1979-1993. Just avoid the 4cyl. Slow, electrical and cooling issues.

Definitely not.

64-6 was its own

67-70 was its own

71-3 was most DEFINITELY its own

74-8 was the Muskrat II aka Pinto

79-93 was the Fox

94-8 I would consider a different generation if they consider 2010-up a different generation

99-04

05-09

10+

I never really bothered with generations of Mustngs. Theres the classics, the Fox, the SN-95 and S197

I just recognize it due to the huge change of body style. They're still good cars too

1991 Bronco 4x4 351W

I talked with the owner last week, he says the truck is all in good condition, up to and including the A/C. He's lowered the price to 1,000. Once I get back from Michigan in about a week I'll be looking at it, and if it drives well, I will buy. I love these things.
