Ok that's good to know. After I get back home after digging into getting my rear brakes done, then new tranny fluid/filter I finally get to start modding!

Well, if it's leveling up, it might need longer shocks or a re-mount. key being MIGHT. It depends on the kit, and typically if you need new shocks, it'll either tell you in the instructions or come with shocks, if it's a good kit. usually they'll move the mounts down if there's not enough downward travel in the stock shock.

Well the kit is only supposed to lift the front 1.5-2.0 inches, so I'd think I'm alright. But you never know on this truck haha I'll figure it out when I buy the kit...

Ok, so money has been tightish recently, but nothing bad at all, so the leveling kit is still not on the truck because I don't feel comfortable dipping into those funds until I build them up more. Anyways, the reserved leveling kit alignment fund got raided last week.... on a new subwoofer. A Lanzar DC 12 Competition sub. On the same amp as my current 10 (300w amp), this sub SLAMS in comparison. I can turn it up and you can walk 30 feet away and still hear the thump clear as day.

Anyways, that brings me to the dilemma. I've been looking at 800-1000 watt amps. I can find them used for 50-60 bucks. An alignment is also 50-60 bucks after I'd level.

What do you guys think is the best way to go about this?

Do the alignment.

Nobody needs that much bass. If it's to show off, ask yourself if you've ever heard a car with thumping bass and thought "man, that guy must be a badass".

Yeah. Nobody else will either.

Seconded. I'm not sure how much bass a single-cab pickup really needs to appreciate it, but I suspect it's not that much.

The alignment is only necessary if he does the leveling kit.

Which is another 100% image-based item.

Neither are necessary. Have you seen a guy roll past in an old F150 sitting level on 31s even though it's a 2WD and thought "That guy must be a badass"? Me neither.

Agreed.

I can't see the point in crashing weddings with your bass (know a guy that did)... I understand the want to enjoy music (hence why I've thought about a better stereo many times) but it gets stupid at a certain point.

I know what they off-roading is like down in Florida...it's sandy. So if I were you, what I would is get rid of the 2WD truck and get a 4WD one. Keep your tires. Put them on the 4WD truck.

I'd love to take your advice keef on getting a 4wd, but in the end there is really no way I can justify that. Ive mudded my truck about 4 times in almost a year and a half, i wouldnt use it enough. Be a great bragging point and all, but for me in my current situation its just more stuff to maintain or break.

Now for the crazy amounts of bass. I'm not doing it to show off, I could care less about that, I just love the low notes in general of music. Gotta feel and hear everything. I'm building my system to be completely immersive, encasing you in a wall of sound where you can hear every bit to the music, nothing gets missed out on. I've got the highs mostly handled, this will address the lows. And if it turns out to be too much, I can turn around and sell this sub for at least 200 bucks.

Be careful bumping your system, that's how people know what you have and then steal it. I got all my stuff ripped off out of my truck back in 05. After that I kept it down most of the time.

There's no such thing as a used 800+ watt amp that's $50-60. Does not exist.

Want to know how much potential an amplifier has? Look at the fuses on its chassis and add a 0 to it. An amp may have a 30 amp fuse and a sticker on it that says 1200watts. Do the math; voltage X current = watts. Amps are not entirely efficient, they get warm, and your amp usually sees around 12-13v. Round it down to 10v and you get an idea on what you're working with.

If you're going to spend money on a sound system (car or home), invest in a good amp.

Its also a great way to mess up one's hearing.

+1

Although you might want to show it off, keep it to yourself and you'll keep it longer.

Honestly, if I were you I'd sell the other sub and have the amp push just the competition. It will sound a lot better and much crisper, plus you'll give yourself a couple extra bucks towards the kit install.

I only turn it up out at work and in the country. Cops are looking for anything to pull a kid over for that's easy. I appreciate the advice though, especially because I know my truck isn't the complete most secure

That's what I'll be doing for as long as I need after building my box/console. It hits on the tiny amp, but I want more and to feel everything. I know pushing a bit more power thru that sub will make it worlds cleaner sounding, which is the more important part to me

I've already got it set up to sell the old sub/amp to my fried for $70. But I'm not gonna sit around with no amp in my truck and a hot wire under my seat hooked straight to the battery, so I'll be reimbursing myself on the new used amp.

Anyways, this afternoon I'm gonna be measuring and drawing up my box design(s) and also taking off the front wheels to familiarize myself with what it is I need to disconnect/PB blaster before the level

Both of the previous two things are on hold. Amp and level. I sprang a big power steering leak from the bottom of the gear box, think I lost a seal in it :(

150 bucks later, the pitman arm seal is fixed, and the truck is back on the road. Also added a 13in 3-way speaker, center channel speaker and am now down firing my 10... I've hit my bass thresh hold, the outside of the truck rattles now, but the notes don't carry outside the cab

Got bored with my old tails, decided to make them badass...

Smoked!

2 coats of Niteshades, 2 coats of Dupont clear coat, sanded the lights before painting with 800 grit, washed with Dawn soap and then rubbed down with rubbing alcohol. There's no a drip, run, fisheye or any sort of defect in the paint.

Also they are semi-matte, to match the satin/matte black wheels and molding on the truck. It's just a weird little color agreement thing I have, every black on the truck doesn't shine, the chrome/diamond plate blinds you, and the blue... is paint haha

And internet cookie to whoever notices that the extra difference between the smoked and stock pair.

Smoked pair seem to have the reverse light section stay clear all the way around.

Looks... Eh, I dunno actually. I'd have left it.

Edit: Orrrrrrr... Smoke the reflector strip on the tailgate.

I think Black Stallion might have had smoked lights some time in the early '90s, I dunno.

but, yeah, smoke the reflector strip if you can. otherwise, looks good.

Now that you guys say that I think I will. I'm just kinda not messing with it too much because I'm in the process of finding a new tail gate panel to replace mine because the reflector is starting to fall out and it's a little dented in a few places.
