It doesn't now that's it's fully dry

The reflector is a spotty thing in itself, all the defects are in the reflector itself and not the paint sadly

Mocked up a 4 inch lift, without the coil spacer I'd have under it if I did it.

Ok not really, this was before I got my butt handed to me by rusted bolts that won't budge when I tried to put the leveling kit on. Need air tools.

oy, I hope that taillight smoking is legal.

don't get too enthusiastic with the air tools, now. they and rusty hardware do NOT like each other

I'll be gettin' a shop to do the level later down the line here. I got stuck on the first bolt, the one for the shock. Figured if that one wouldn't budge no point even trying the other. Soaked in PB Blaster, still nothing :(

And to the tail smoke, they still reflect red and are all lights are visible through them in daylight, so I won't be harassed for them

up here, you get into a "bolt won't budge" state, they either give you a dirty look and tell you to buy a new verhicle, or replace literally everything and charge you enough to make the Oil companies jealous :P

Thanks man, and I don't have a torch to hit it with. I'm 18, still in high school and just have pretty much basic hand tools, so I'm not as well supplied as would be nice...

Small update: 2 driving lights have been added to the grill in the past week, 55 watt, cheap ones. Do a great job supplementing my headlights, I'm pleased with them, especially for 20 bucks.

And went to the junkyard yesterday in hopes of finding a wheel to replace my bent one. No luck

odd. nearly any eras wheel should be able to fit that. i watched my stepfather slap the dead steelies off his 88 on a 56, and they fir just fine. i dunno whether it's had the axles replaced or not though. the 56 was partially rodded.

Should have been more clear, I'm looking for a matching wheel. The wheels I'm currently running are one of the stock steel rally wheels. Pretty common, but all the ones I found were on the ground and still bolted up, so I couldn't pull them

What kind of junk yard is it? Typicaly they'll come out and lift it for you if you just ask, that's the way it was at the few i've been to.

hmm...i know there's plenty of knockoffs around (personally, I'd take some of the swirlier ones like off an Explorer, but those aren't steelies).

Casey: yes, there are junkyards around that are "take it off yourself"...we have one up here that has a reputation for destroying things while trying to get them off the clunkers, wheels included. i bought a tank off them once, and it came out with the filler neck sawed off and the wiring harness for the fuel pump ripped apart. I think they finally fired that guy.

This place is completely a "you pull your own part" kinda place. They have an engine hoist you can use, but that's the only help they have. The cars are held up on stands and normally with all wheels off the ground. The truck that had the wheel I wanted hit a pole sideways, and the frame was so messed up the bed rails were even with my head, where the bed and cab meet.

Also had a little fun... 💡

And just one that kinda struck me at work today in the field

LOL. those ram wheels actually work. surprised you COULD swap them

5x139.7 (5x5.5") does seem to be a fairly common bolt pattern for trucks/suvs/vans, so it isn't too surprising.

Woulda been able to bolt em up if my buddy woulda taken out the center cap

And sidenote, really love where I live. This is my friend's house out on the river. It's 3 minutes from my house and me and my other buddy have permission to drop the canoe in anytime we want. This is the view from her garage

UPDATE

If all goes well, Friday the truck will be getting a full trans drain/fill and a new filter, which means I can start throwing the pennies at getting the leveling kit installed. I had no idea it would be such a problem finding an off road shop around. Before I got the kit there were trucks with 941 Customs, Cope Customs, Backyard Customs and a couple other shops, all with phone numbers. Now that I bought it I can't find one of those trucks to get the number off of, and the shops aren't on the net...

And while I'm thinking out loud, I'm thinking about getting a 1 inch bigger block for the back, maintain just a little rake but get some lift too, and blocks are really inexpensive

that's like trying to find one around here. it's all "shadetree mechanics r us" around here. i've found a speedshop and one audio booster, but nothing like you need.

I'm due for a flush, myself (Chrysler Product), if I could ever get back to work...
we had to take a week to fix the brake and suspension situation around here (they went out completely on a Thursday WHILE i was hauling people!), and while we were replacing most of the brake system yet again, the rain kicked in...
around here, it's ecology over profit :P

I'd change the fluid myself if I didn't have to turn the engine by hand to make the drain plug for the torque converter become visible :ouch:

If I'm lucky the shop I'm calling tomorrow can do leveling kits too. As long as he's got jack stands, a spring compressor and air tools, it'll be pretty easy. Also thinking about putting a block 1.5inches bigger than stock in the back... but I'll get her leveled first and see what I think

have somebody with muscles put a breaker bar on a pully if you have to.

There's no way to work it right on the shock bolt. I got stuck on that one and didn't even bother trying the other bolts because if one won't come off I can't complete it anyway...

Had a little off road fun today, we had that K5 in some deep stuff, water to the top of the wheel wells and quicksand style mud underneath for him

Cleaned her up, found tire black that works WONDERS. Here she is at the South Skyway Fishing Pier

Tranny is serviced. 2 weeks from now, she will be sittin 2.5inches taller in the front!

But might may look taller in the front by an optical illusion, it looks damn near level right now, but it's 3.5inches lower in the front. I have a 2.5in kit so I'll be visually about dead on. Realistically I'll still be a little lower

(Yeah I know, kinda dirty... dirt roads suck)

Finally got her lifted! I had a 2.5in leveling kit, and ended up getting 3 1/8 inches out of it. So I'm 1/8inch taller in the front than back... But that'll probably go to perfectly level after I get my alignment finished. All that's left now is to pick up some new Camber bushings so it can be aligned without 3 degrees of positive camber and I'm set!

Also, used Mothers Powerball 4Lights last weekend, and my headlights look 95% brand new. I'm extremely pleased, especially with the light output. Don't have a picture of that though...

that's better. subtle little lift. usually when people say they're lifting it, the lift it 3 FEET, not inches.

It'll settle in a while and wind up back to being sliiiiiiiiightly low in the front.
I really hope it does settle at least 1/8 to a 1/4 inch. My camber is so far out I need the most adjustable bushings I can get. I ordered the 2.5 inch kit knowing that's about all I could lift it with stock components... Now it's REALLY on the edge of needing a lot of front end parts like extended radius arms and drop brackets for the I-Beams. Had I known it'd lift that much I would have got the 2 inch kit

Thanks :) I'd lift it more... but I don't have the money

btw, kid, thanks for the inspiration. i tackled my crappy opaque headlights yesterday (even the junkyard finds are opaque). i think I got a decent return out of it. the nose piece is next. I have to have this thing ready for inspection and/or sale.

No problem 👍

In the Mothers kit there's a polishing compound (all I used) and there's also a 4 part sanding technique you can use before the polish for really bad headlights
