The truck's looking good! 👍 Now that the leveling is done, are you going to do any motor work? The 300-straight 6 responds very well to mods because Ford strangled it from the factory.

Sadly there is NO aftermarket support for this engine. The most in-depth I can get is Electric fans and under drive pulleys, and a timing bump. :(

Electric fans are typically worth it, I'd suggest that. It looks like K&N makes an intake setup for the truck as well. You could get a better distributor and plugs also. Oh I'm guessing they have a throttle body spacer for the truck too. Nothing major can be done but you can always modify anything .

Thanks! :)

E-Fans are something I'm looking into, just not right now. I've read they free up a good bit of power, but it's just finding the parts I need. Not the top of my list, don't have the extra money to throw at it.

EVery time I hear about CAI's, I get jealous of the newer trucks. Mine is speed density, not mass air, so it can't cope with the added air that the full intake would bring in. Most I can do is the filter, and then run really close to too lean. The computer has a very small range of adjustments it can make to the A/F ratio and I'm not about to blow it up. 80's tech :ouch:

not only that, the boost would be fairly minor from a cold air intake. 80's designed engines are Detuned to meet emissions standards.

he's got a point about the 300, though. about the only place I can think of that would even CARRY parts is the very expensive LMCTruck, and they're "factory condition" oriented (don't even ASK about Ford Racing)

There's one place that caters to the carburated 300 club... Fuel injected 300s have no support. Whooooo 150hp... But I do have 280 ft/lbs at about 1400rpm

Tonight went well. Ran out of light, but got one of the new camber bushings in. Really pleased with how everything came out, didn't have any rust problems, which I thought I would. Just gotta hope the other side is just as easy tomorrow morning

I served my time as tow truck yesterday... Friend wanted to rip up some mud in his B3000 before he scraps the little POS. By the end had to tow it with a rope half mile down the road to a buddy's house to let sit until it gets a new battery and connections... And found out I need longer shocks SO bad, I feel like I have no suspension now off road

Just placed an order for some 6k dual beam beam HIDs for Fiona. $120 for the whole kit, not bad!

Are you going to be changing out your headlight housings? You'll get a ton of glare if you leave the stock housings in and probably won't be able to see anything while blinding other drivers. You probably also should look into getting some yellow fog lights for raining weather since 6000K won't reflect off the road very well when it's wet.

I can't change housings, the aftermarket does not make a single one. Stock is my only option. If they don't turn out right I'll just return them, no big deal there. I don't think I'll have to but I'll have the option. Gotta re-aim my lights anyway because of the leveling kit.

Good call on the yellow lights too, I have 2 little driving lights that put off the light of my dads mustangs headlights, and are normal headlight colored, but a little yellower. They help a lot 👍

mustang's got a point. they only manufacture replacement original-style composites. even LMCTruck (which I look at every now and them) doesn't have any, and they friggin stock EVERYTHING!

If I had a '80-'86 or '92-'96 I could get differemt housings. 87-91 is the black sheep as far front end mods go. No hoods/bull bars/lights/grilles(except billet)/light bars/etc.

I'll just aim my headlighs down and all should be well

Edit: Paid $105, F150Forum discount :)

HIDs are in. Couple kinks still need working out, high beams won't function, and there's a short in the relay, so I should be getting another of those. Anyways, just the low beams I have are AMAZING they kick my halogen high beams asses, with very bearable amounts of glare to oncoming drivers (tested it myself, parked the truck on the road, turned on the lights and drove past multiple times with my gf's Blazer)

i always ran into notes that, with HID headlight bulbs, you have to have a heavy duty wiring harness to handle them. i take it they worked before, switch included?

Just remember if you do any more height adjustments to your truck it's even more important to realign the headlamps. Now you need yellow fog lights really bad, as I've said HID's in halogen housings will be useless in the rain. A 2500K colour temperature will work really well, especially if you mount them low enough.

You know, I had always wondered what the purpose of yellow fog lights were. Thanks, Joey. Now I don't have to make a thread to ask about it.

👍

No need. HIDs pull less electricity than normal bulbs.

I found out the problem. When the connect was wired up they put the prongs into a single beam configuration. My vendor told me how to change that, all I had to do was switch 2 pegs in the connector and now they work flawlessly :)

Yeah, I'm with you there, got to test that yesterday afternoon... and of course my normal 55watt halogen driving lights... Yeah, one of the bulbs blew itself out last week. So I need to find another of those bulbs, then I'm all good

Oil was sucessfully changed for the 162,000 mile change. And Florida being Florida decided to try and drench me. But oh no, I wasn't gonna let Florida win!

And here's why there's no aftermarket. My truck and this vehicle have the SAME ENGINE

And I was also mudding other day... Thought it was a little drier here, and not going to swallow my truck up to nearly the top of the tires

Were you stuck or could you just no longer go forward

*snip*

*chuckle* then I have a suggestion for you, get an overbore kit for that particular tractor model, and throw IT in.

That's getting into mud that'd get 33s stuck.
The funny part about that is that hole swallowed my buddy's '84 K5 4x4 on 33 inch mud rovers... But that was the week before and it no longer had water in it. Just mud to sink 2 feet into. I think it's deeper now honestly

I don't get stuck, I just lose traction and stop moving

Went to start my truck tonight, and she started but the solenoid puffed out some smoke. I already know the connections aren't great up there so I went to tighten 'em up. 🤬 solenoid housing broke in half, and the thing is worthless till I get another one.

Replacing the solenoid is as easy as takin the old one off, mounting the new one in it's place and hooking up the wires?

Oh, and a new solenoid is cheaper than a junkyard grille.

Productive couple of days here. Installed the new solenoid yesterday, and am amazed what it did for me. The truck used to crank really slow, and I thought it was 'cause the starter was weak. It was really bad when the engine was hot. Turns out the solenoid I broke was getting really weak, with the new one this thing cranks like a brand new vehicle

And, scored some wire mesh from work today that's gonna be in the grille. What's that mean? I have all the supplies I need to make my custom grille!

Thanks 👍

Masking that all off was a pain in the rear, and it's not perfect still. There's 2 spots along the bottom edge between the chrome and black where there's 1mm jagged edge from 2 spots of tape, and the top black bar isn't masked 100% straight against the chrome on the edge of the bar. Tiny little nit picks you won't see with your face more than a foot from the grille, but they still annoy me. I'm so anal when it comes to painting stuff on that truck
