My first car | slow moving project | Big update! :D

PB, does your clutch engage far out in the pedal's travel? Both the Sol and this car do that. When I replaced the clutch in the Sol it was grabbing where it was supposed to, way down low, but after a couple weeks it slowly eased all the way back out like it was with the bad clutch. The clutch was never weak or slipped, and the new Exedy grabbed like a beast, but it didn't grab until the pedal was almost all the way out.

I just did some thinking about how the mechanism operates and...I have no idea what could be causing it.

It's gone further up and up since I've had the car, and now it slips. It's worn out.

For the past few months, I could literally drop the clutch and it would engage smoothly with a fair amount of throttle.

Today I installed my flywheel. Took me around 4 hours, but we were taking our time.
I have a pic of the new parts on the car, but we forgot the camera at the shop, so I don't have it now, but I did make a crappy cell phone video of how quickly it revs now with the lightweight flywheel.

Here's a old video I had that shows the car revving slghtly:

And one crappy, cell phone video after:

EDIT: And here's just an awesome picture showing my new Enkei decals.

So that's what a flywheel is good for! I've learned something today.

Nice pic too

Long time, no check on this thread ;)

That Honda is coming along nicely, love the rims

If you notice, I'm also going about 100kph.;)

I was in 5th on the highway and just put in the clutch and revved it a little.

I idles around 750rpm.

Is it a VTEC?

I've only driven 1 Honda, a VTEC Prelude with a million issues, but it idled at 900(needed to be adjusted to 1,000) and it just kinda died once it was in a turn at 900 in neutral.

Based on that, it seems like your Civic idles too low.

(The 1st question is the only that really matters)

No, actually I think the D-series engines are meant to idle a little faster than B-series engines. They're all around 700-800 though.

The VTEC is a H22A1, so I don't know how that fits into what you're saying.

In the end, I'm banking on you knowing way more about Honda's than me. Is the Prelude VTEC a D or B series engine?

Thanks man.👍

No, it's not a Vtec. I have the intake manifold from an EX, which had Vtec, and the top half of the header, (still need the bottom half) but the engine itself does not have Vtec.

My car doesn't idle too low. Explaination further down.

They aren't. A USDM d16 should idle at 600rpm, but since I have a CDM ECU, it idles at 750.

There is a lot of Vtec engines. The H22A1 is just one of them. Also, that engine would be an H series engine, hence the "H" at the beginning.

I have a d16y7 (with a few y8 parts) - D series

Keef has a B16 - B series.

I had a feeling it was like that. I wasn't sure though. And upon more research, there sure are a lot of VTEC motors!

So... Japanese D15 head swap now? :D Strange... never knew your D16s weren't VTEC...

The D16Y8 and Z6 are both SOHC VTEC. Besides that we've got an assortment of 1.5s and 1.6s without it.

I decided I'd post some teaser pics until I get more time to take pics.

Anyway, this is my car on Buddy Club N+ coilovers. I love em:tup:

So, another update. I got a package today in the mail, ran outside to slap it on, but only got halfway done.

I got a new front lip and a rear lip for my car. I only got the front one on before dark, so I got some pics of the front, and I'll try to get the rear on tommorow or on the weekend.

Mugen "style" front lip. I really hate buying knockoff parts, but I really couldn't bring myself to spend hundreds of dollars for a lip, especially when I drive the car the way I do, it would get torn up quickly.

I like how it looks though, it's a really big improvement over the home made lip I had before.

This is how it looked before:

And 2 more for the hell of it:

I know it looks pretty much like every other Civic out there, but surprisingly, there's only a few things you can do to the exterior of a Civic that actually look good.

Anyway, comments are welcome!👍

Is insurance allright? It probably wouldn't be for a guy my age. (I've been looking at Civics)

When I just got it, I was 16 years old, it was under my dad's name, and I paid 460 for the entire year, liability. That worked out fine, I've never caused an accident. (though I've been hit twice, their insurance covered it.)

I've just gone through this whole thread thinking "I can't believe I've not posted in here before" then got to this page and saw that I had, just after you got the new suspension.

The car looks fantastic though, especially with the new front lip. It's been great going through the thread seeing the progress you've made on it. Seeing the effect of the new flywheel was especially impressive.

I've just put the rear lip on this morning, but I've got work soon and my batteries are dead in my camera, so pics should come later today. They will most likely be after dark again, I just don't have that much time during the day, especially today.

CHEERLEADER: How does it look?

TEEN GIRL SQUAD: SOOOO GOOD!!!

Apologies for the homestarrunner.com reference. It really does look good, keep it up!

You forgot to blur the license plates. Better fix that.

I like the Civic. People make Civics look bad by over-tuning them. but yours looks perfect.

I've slipped up too many times to start hiding my plates now.

Thousands of people see them every day anyways.

Thanks for the comments though. 👍
