Holy crap! my PS2 has the opposite problem! It only plays DVD formatted games(silver, GT3)and won't play the blue or black discs or CDs.

Call up Sony, make sure you answer the questions correctly(for the one about useing game inhancements, say that it's a PS2 formatted disc, made for the PS2, and does not plug into the PS2)and tell them in great extent about your problem. The guy will probably say that he's waving the repair(meaning that it's free)and they will send you a E-mail with all of the details on how to send it in and where, just follow the directions.

I will be sending mine in after I come back from vacation.

It's a funny thing...so many people have had these weird problems with their PS2s...and yet I have one of the first wave of consoles to hit U.S. shores (legally :D) and have had no trouble. :reallyodd

Same here, but my friend bought a PS2 with similar problems : DVD fine, GT3 Fine, but put GTA3 in his console and it basically tells you to 🤬 Off, he's tried various copies too and it just won't work :thumbsdow

This isn't something that should happen to Sony, only X-Box should knack up as they've never made consoles

Frost, if it's still in the warranty demand a replacement, if not take it to the store you bought it and show them the problem :home:, if that gets you nowhere call Sony Customer Sevices :

- Tell them how long you've had the console (they should offer replacement or at least repair if its not far out of the Warranty).

- Discuss that you've spoken to others who've had similar problems :D

- Say that your really disappointed and wouldn't be buying another Sony Console :shakehead (Even if you will be B/S them to persuade a replacement)

- Ask if the've had similar complaints with the same problem.

- Failing all that go to Trading Standards agency :argue:, say that the console has not performed according to product description and it should play all PS2 Games :floppy:

Hope you get it sorted :star:

My PS2 plays the purple CD's but it makes alot of wierd sounds like its working really hard to read the Data In the CD So I only put in the Silver CD's

the CD reading problems (purple/black or silver) are due to a "weak laser" in mostly first gen PS2's. To fix it, you have to replace the laser.

(my friend has the same problem with everything but silver CDs)

Alexy, just call Sony! they are nice there...I'm getting mine fixed for free, and they put on a new 90 day warrenty...

And mine also use to work really hard to read the blue or black discs, now it doesn't play them at all, and is showing signs of working hard to read the silver discs, but they load everytime...

I never post, just read but I had to comment on this. My PS2 was having problems playing the blue/purple discs at one time also. Some games it would struggle and make a grinding noise...others it would do nothing. I ignored it until one day I wanted to play Tekken. It sounded like someone was dragging the PS2 across conrete....really bad. Called Sony...they want like 150 bucks and 6 weeks to fix it. I obviously decided against that. Well i did a google.com search for the problem and a guy described a method of puting two pieces of tape (he recommended scotch, I used duct) on the top of the disc parallel to each other around the center hole like this: |O|. It worked perfectly. I think it has something to do with the disc being unbalanced or something. Give it a try
