Do you have Playstation Plus? If you do, the save might be there up on the cloud.

Haven't you backed up to a memory card? If not, your fault.

My ps3 dead:ouch:, yellow led. My cars and level save on my PSN?:nervous: or on HardDrive?

It could be either but it would only save online if you have a playstation plus account and choose to save online otherwise its on the PS3.

Hate to break it to you, but it looks like you're screwed if you never backed up your save file. I still feel sorry for you though. Was it a fat or slim?

Solution: buy new PS3, get old harddisk from the 80gbFAT, put it in new PS3, backup your save file.
Remove old HD, put back new HD, install GT5 and put savefile back.
Fixed.

If you want to get warranty and if you send the PS3 back to Sony you might wanna remove the HD before you do that, I'm not sure if Sony formats the drive but I think they will.

This doesn't work, I wish people would stop posting this rubbish.:banghead:
If you stick a HD into a new PS3 it will be formatted.

The only way the OP can back up his file now is by getting his PS3 to work again. There is plenty of info on the possible fixes available on the web, there is even a thread on here about it.:)

My first time dealing with YLOD (added ways to fix YLOD)

You could take the drive out and install it in a PC and get the save file off of it. It is possible.

Sorry to hear about your loss but I can offer some comfort at this sad time.
I got mine running again in 1 hour after getting the YLOD. Your ps3 may go again though after fix so back up your data (I used USB).
I will find and post a link shortly for you. The fix is easy but make sure you use the right tools as described in the video. Also make a note of which screws go where as you end up with a lot of bits. The repair totally works so dont be afraid to try it, its up to you to be very careful though!

This is part 1, you can find part 2 and 3 in the box on the right!
Good luck!

Do other games/ blue rays/ DVD's work? If they do maybe your GT5 disc needs a polish. Also you could try cleaning the lens with a DVD cleaning disc. Try it a few times before giving up. My PS3 went down for a couple of days then came back to life, all memory was saved. I also put some small "bumpers" (like you'd use on the back of picture frames) under each corner for a bit more ventilation, that seemed to help.

Check locally for a 3rd party shop that will perform PS3 repairs.

This! I had this happen to me and was worried about losing everything. Found a few places using various search methods (craigslist, google) and found a trusted place that performed a professional reflow. $40 and a little over an hour later everything was fixed and my PS3 runs better than before with absolutely nothing lost. Not worth going through the DYI fixes that will fry your system when you can get a permanent fix.

When will people learn? Backup, Backup, Backup, Backup........

YOu sure?
I'm pretty sure a friend of mine did it.
He installed the new HD first, then just swapped the HD's.
What would be the reason this doesn't work?
Is it so that every time you swap a HD, the PS3 first formats the HD or something?

This!!!
I was fortunate enough to find one 20 miles from me. Got it back the day after, all I lost was a couple of themes wich I re-downloaded :)
Mines a fat 60gb BTW

Yes I'm sure, as soon as you put a HD into a new/different PS3 it will be formatted. As to why it's designed like this you would have to ask Sony, my guess is it's for security reasons.

Thats just wrong from Sony....
Good info though 👍
Maybe I should make another backup as well...

Press the triangle on your game save and hit copy. (In Game Data Utility in the XMB.)

You mean the blinking red led when starting up your PS3 (like in the video above), right?

Everything else is not really a YLOD: What do the colors of the "Power" and "Disc Inserted" lights on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system mean?

Bad grammar, but you are right. :sly:

As long as the harddrive isn't damaged (which shouldn't be when you get "only" a YLOD), let the YLOD fix from an professional. Thing done (for now).

Or follow the do-it-yourself youtube guide, buy a new PS3slim (they have now reduced the price!) & transfer your data to your new PS3. Then sell your old fatty on ebay, which is imo the best deal because your fatty is going to die sooner or later again, because it's not really a permanent/save fix. :dopey:👍

Ohh, and here's a very detailed guide: Sony Playstation3 and PS3 Slim – How to backup your PS3 harddrive to an external harddrive / thumbdrive before upgrading

PS: to be on the save site, backup all your game saves extra on a USB stick.

ash: If a ps3 hard disk is already set up with the ps3 software it isn't automatically formatted by taking it out and putting it in. That's only with a new hard drive. Since one of the official fixes for hard drive problems is to try reseating the hard drive I don't think they'd make it so it automatically reformats your drive. It is wise to have backups though. My hard drive died after only 7 months and I barely use my ps3. I hate that both consoles insist on using Hitachi garbage.
