Just copy forza's online features, they work excellent.
And for the people naysaying headsets, it is absolutely vital
I think the most important aspect of having headsets is being able to communicate to other drivers where you car is in relation to them. Passing and general driving amongst other drivers is made alot more easier when you know where the other drivers are due to them communicating locations.
I dont know about you, but i sure as hell cant see other cars beside me going into a turn and routinely drive into them (me getting the ramming penalty), even if there were taking a very unsuccessful line and only got through it due to me being used as a barrier from them understearing off the corner.
As well, the penalty system is garbage. I am routinely punted off the track and when i get back on, i am stuck with a shortcut penalty as well.
Shortcuts should have quick sand on them, only in strategic places, so that instead of being slowed down, even when you are back on the track, you are only slowed down while you are cutting through the sand.
This works extremely well in forza
I havent played f2 since last summer, but i recall contact between drivers resulting in additional time added to your lap. This doesnt necessarily inhibit drivers who maliciously try to knock you off, as they arent interested in lap times, but it does make for even cleaner races with capable drivers.
The 'random' ghosting also doesnt help, and ghosting and then randomly re-solidifying makes some corners, fujis first for example, a real nightmare. Unless you start off in the first row and can cut inside of the first corner, you are punted off the track, and rammed multiple times due to the ghosting affects. Its a complete mess
I know i know, i am no programmer or game designer, but i just dont understand how online racing is so difficult for poly. Forza had an online system that worked great right off the bat in the first game
