Just to go off-topic a bit... did any of you see "SPEED Center" this past Sunday as Sam Hornish Jr. mentioned the post-race incident between her and Danica Patrick? Hornish Jr. was talking about his view of the incident as opposed to Danica tagging Sam Hornish Jr. I'm still a bit on the fence with that issue (and I love Danica). Danica's since apologized. One thing I love about Danica- she's race hard but race clean.

Had this been YouTube on the Danica/Hornish Jr. incident, I would have seen every comment ranging from any sort of kitchen jokes (I hate those. Read my blog for that) to women not being good drivers or some crap like that. I still just don't know what to make of that.

Somewhat back on topic now... I remember SpeedFreaks once asking if NASCAR would be better with fewer races or shorter races. Which would you prefer: fewer races, shorter races, or a combination of both?

I don't care, all I want is more road courses.

I'd rather see fewer races on more courses. Drop the total number to 30 or so, and add in some more tracks so that very few (if any) are raced on twice per season.

Gotta love Tony, the dude knows his stuff and isn't afraid to speak his mind.

How is that off topic? lol

But then the "diehard" Nascar fans would all come out and say, "This ain't that damn F1 type of racin', this is a man's sport."

I dont understand. Your much more likely to get that type of reply when asking a F1 fan to add ovals to the schedule then asking a NASCAR fan to add road courses.

NASCAR is an oval racing series. Thats what makes it unique and it needs to stay that way. The rash of cookie cutter tracks is whats hurting the schedule, not the lack of road courses, at least in my opinion.

We could start by running the infield circuits at Daytona, Indy and Miami, that would get rid of two boring restrictor plate races, one boring cookie cutter and a boring flat oval. Top it off by canning one Dega race and we would be down to only one restrictor plate race per year!
No plate races, fewer cookie cutters, less & shorter races and more short tracks 👍

I like Daytona and Talladega, if only because they are something different, and almost anyone actually has a legitimate chance to win. To me, NASCAR needs less cookie cutter 1.5-mile trioval and quadoval tracks, that are all basically clones of Charlotte Motor Speedway. Knock all of those 1.5 mile tracks (and Michigan) back to one race per track, and add Milwaukee, Rockingham, North Wilkesboro, Road Atlanta, Iowa, and race #2 for Darlington.

For the Chase, take ten tracks that are all equipped with lighting (or add lighting to better venues), and run the entire Chase under the lights on Saturday nights in prime time. There's no need to compete with the NFL for Sunday afternoon audiences in the fall. It's not a winnable fight.

I agree. I watch football on Sunday and DVR the races. Problem with that is, someone always tells me who wins the races before I can watch them. So half of the time, I don't watch them anyway. :grumpy:

This happened to me with the Aussie F1 GP, I'd failed to stay up for the race the night before and the replay was the following afternoon on Sky F1. We went to my grandparents in the morning and my Grandma of all people, who has never watched F1 in her life, told me she'd heard Jenson Button had won :grumpy:

Agree with the Saturday night idea though, I stay up later than usual then so I'd have no problem watching the races. More short tracks, maybe an extra road course or two and cut some cookie cutters. Voila.

Great point, you should write them.

EDIT: But wouldn't that affect the truck schedule?

Could the #6 be in the All-Star race, driven by Matt Kenseth?

I realize the article doesn't say it, but it's almost obvious...

http://www.jayski.com/cupnews.htm#20120510i

New sponsor for Kenseth? number? Roush Fenway Racing is scheduled to make announcement at the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Monday, May 14th for an announcement regarding the new number on Matt Kenseth¹s #17 Sprint Cup Ford Fusion, as well as a new multi-year partner for RFR and Kenseth. Kenseth and team co-owner Jack Roush will be on hand for the event.(Roush Fenway Racing), NOTE: the PR doesn't say Kenseth will have a new car number but a new number on the car. And it could be a special number for the All-Star race like last season when Jimmie Johnson ran the #5 in the event.

Funny, on the hub they said it was a "New number". Regardless, I'm wondering what sort of deal will be happening with this Special number.

Remember they said a "new number", the #6 is an old number, but remains Roush's flagship number, which was established by Mark Martin. The six will always and forever be Mark Martin's legacy, and I believe the Rat in the Hat wants a driver that is capable of winning championships with the number and I think Stenhouse is the man for the job. Kinda like Dillon and the #3 & perhaps Wallace and the #20 sometime in the future. You know, you gotta wonder what the future also hold's for Hendrick's #24 & #48.

Wait, so is the new number just a one off thing for the All Star race, or are they dropping the #17 permanently after this year?

Just speculation, we're gonna have to wait till Tuesday for official word.

Just seen that Tony Stewart interview for the first time, been hearing about it all week. Absolutely hilarious, Smoke at his best

Even funnier is the fact that people in the youtube comments actually think he's being serious because his delivery is so dry and deadpan.

Ryan Newman saying they need to run a 3rd road course race instead of Talladega

You know, it was the drivers who didnt like NASCAR stopping them from bump drafting at plate tracks and causing these big wrecks. They got upset and said NASCAR doesnt let them race now NASCAR lets them race and the drivers are lashing out at the fans?

The Big One is the fault of the drivers. Carl Edwards and Keselowski's crash was their fault. Not NASCAR, not the fans. The crash Tony Stewart is crying about? That was the drivers being stupid and running into each other, again not the fault of the fans or NASCAR
