I see the airbrake flaps have been changed to better utilize the fact that most races are left turns. :P

But what about Watkins Glen and Infineon?

Airbrake flaps? If you mean the roof flaps, they have always been that way since they were implemented in the mid 90s.

Mustang is being used in the Nationwide series alongside the Challenger. Camaro isn't being used because GM couldn't get the roofline the way they wanted for the Camaro on the NW body.

Cup Series is a marketing tool for family sedans now. Camaro and Mustang don't fit into that and definitely don't need any marketing pushes.

Totally agree. I think making Nascars to look like roadcars is a smart advertisement tool that I think will go down well in 90% of Nascar fans but not so much with the 'purists.' Sponsors will come definitely.

I hope there is not a massive aero advantage with different race cars. Nonetheless, I'm sure Nascar have got this.

There shouldn't be major differences in terms of aerodynamics. They were initially worried about the Challenger having the inset grill like the road car has but when they put it in the windtunnel, they found out that inset packed the air and the airflow over the nose was similar to the other cars.

We shall see. Definitely something to look forward to. I hoped the spoiler might come back but that's not gonna happen.

I think Nascar has done a good enough job keeping these things on the ground.

The wing that was on the original COT?

That won't be coming back ever. When the cars spun around it acted... well... like a wing and caused the cars to become airborne. It also hampered visibility out of the back of the cars, so for more than one safety reason it was reverted back to the blade spoiler.

Guess I've just be seeing it wrong all of these years. :dunce:
Camera angles playing a trick on me. I always assumed it was one long flap.

Well I think it's safe to say that this is the last year that Chevy will use the Ninth generation Impala for it's stock cars in NNS and NSCS.

I'm not sure how that would be a problem for purists, considering that NASCAR used to have cars that actually did look like their road car counterparts, and in fact at one point actually were their road car counterparts.

Case in point:

The Plymouth Superbird is one example of a road car that was developed for NASCAR.

Sponsors will come definitely.

I don't know what they could be doing differently that would bring in sponsorship. NASCAR was already a great place for sponsors to advertise. Advertisement has been huge in NASCAR and it's viewed/followed by a fairly large number of people.

Funny you mention that. Considering theres been cars with spoilers taking off for years. The wing going backwards wouldnt make enough lift to make the car fly. Now having a car with skirts on the sides and splitter on the ground traveling backwards with a huge rear opening will pack enough air underneath it to lift it. The wing was removed because people disliked the looks. Weve already seen a spoilered car take off last year. If they wanted the cars to stop flying they would have hinged skirts that when pressure under the car was high would blow out the pressure through the sides

Exactly when did a Spoilered car take off last year? Don't recall any race where a car went in the air in anyway the exact same fashion the winged cars did in 2009.

didnt even need to go full backwards to flip, thats the first find and i know theres 2 more but i cant recall the race or year they happened. Nascar is trying the same thing the ACO is doing for LMP cars. They know the underbody when going backwards makes a huge high pressure area that lifts the cars up, so by putting a huge fin across the back in hopes the cars dont go full circle in a high speed spin try to prevent the angle of crash that would cause a flip.

That car flipped because it was being pushed sideways by two other cars.

Find one car that flipped completely on it's own after spinning backwards since the blade spoiler was put back on the car.

Does everyone think the drivers are going to play it nice in The Duels? Or are we going to have half the field in backup cars?

And the talladega flip of edwards the car was hit from underneath and tossed up by newmans car.

Fact is the old cars flipped more easily than the COT with the wing. And now with the spoiler and sharkfin its doubtful a car will go past 90 degrees yaw all by itself.

You aren't helping your case.

Since they went back to the normal spoiler, the cars stopped flipping on their own. The shark fin was there with the wing as well and it wasn't helping keep the cars down.

Montoya always has his nose around trouble

I'm surprised he made it through the Budweiser Shootout crashfest without causing or being involved in anything

What about Kenseth's flip at 'dega in the 2009 Nationwide race?

Car was sideways when it flipped and it wasn't any of the new cars. This was pre shark fin and pre NNS COT.

well then, there won't be any since they made the fin taller when they reverted back to the spoiler.

How am I not? I said and you can look for yourself that edwards car in dega was already starting to fall back down when newman hit it from underneath and tossed him up in the air. Weve been seeing spoilered cars fly for decades.
Why bother telling you, watch it yourself

Heres 3 minutes of flips mostly by spoilered cars
