Perhaps yes. But in terms of realism iRacing trumps it.

In terms of fun though, NTG trumps NR2003.

iRacing bought Papyrus and used Nr2003 as a platform. For physics NR2003 is the best.

Platform yes. There is nothing of NR2003 in iRacing any more. NR2003 was maybe the best at some point but not any more, not by a long shot.

And it still isn't fun..

Is it that bad?

EDIT:
I see, I see...

I just found this in a review:
It would have been nice to talk about how awesome and intuitive the paint booth is, or how it was nice to see NASCAR Thunder’s “Lightning Challenge” mode return under a different name, but where it actually counts; “Inside Line” has reached a new low for not just NASCAR games, but racing games in general. This is a game that by all means should NOT have reached store shelves in its current state, and NASCAR fans might be waiting quite a while for a faithful representation of their beloved motorsport. “Inside Line” is full of countless issues that completely destroy any chance of the game being worth playing, and is my personal candidate for worst racing game ever released this generation.

When I saw they a DLC pack for $50, that pretty much soured the game for me. I just don't want to play it. The way I feel is; I can't believe I got hoodwinked by these guys again! I waited like 3 months before even considering buying it. All because of Daytona! I could've gotten a case of really good seasonal craft beer for my $60. I played through Daytona and its sitting there.

"Won't get fooled again..."

It should be free, save your money and buy something else.Oh I wish they would let Sierra/Papyrus do NASCAR again.

I did say it should be free,$65 paperweight.

Well I have just pre purchased this for PC on steam and to my surprise and delight got instant access to the single player beta. Thoughts coming up and some video too if you guys would like to see it in action.

Yeah, I'd be interested in the PC version as long as the modding community can fix some bugs and improve the realism.
The sad thing about the EU games is that when actually playing them, underneath all of the glitches and the overpriced DLC, there is one hell of a game in there, at least on par with the Thunder series of EA's games (Which were not known for their realism unless the fastest line around every race track ever is the bottom)

I'm gonna give a quick review on the current beta later this evening so keep an eye out.

Ok guys so here is some early impressions from a few hours on the beta today. I missed out on properly playing NTG:Inside Line, I did play 2010 though and am an avid iRacing oval racer, racing in the iRacing NASCAR series and UK Gen6 cup. Just remember I am playing it in beta so some things may be missing and/or be improved for the final game, in fact it was released yesterday and today already saw a patch update for the beta to improve some stability and game controller issues.

I have had time on Inside Line, just not deeply enough to draw real comparisons between it and the PC version of 2013, without playing side by side it is difficult to judge if the physics are better or not.

So, first things first, I was greeted with a nice sight when getting to the menu:

Yup, Gen6 cars for career and season mode. So not exactly a direct console port. The regular career and season mode options are there alongside the track test, quick race and so on. The highlights packages are included up to and including Pocono, also 2011 has a rather substantial collection of highlights, with the 2011 cars of course and 2012 has 3 highlights but with more seemingly coming as it is labelled "Pack 1". As of yet there is no way of using the 2011 and 2012 cars in season or race modes. Would be a nice addition to career for some progression but nice that they are in the highlights nonetheless and the beta guys are requesting them for use outside the highlight packs but I feel it could be more a license issue than anything.

Graphically, it's hard to say, its beta, there are some optimizations to come with regards to aliasing and such. I have played it on max graphics though and it is handsome. To my eyes already better than NTG:IL which is good and will only get better as the updates roll in before release.

Sounds, typically NASCAR, great engine noises, love the noise of being up near the wall and the wind rushing, wonderful tyre squeal noises as well so all good there to my ears.

Physics. The main one really for anyone buying a game on PC. It isn't marketed as a sim, and the devs will re-enforce that at the forums when people say it's not realistic. However, I think it does actually feel very nice. Perhaps not simulation in the true sense of the word but I think it is more realistic than so called sim-cade games. The cars feel weighty and heavy yet still maneuverable and fast, it feels sim like even if it isn't the class leader in sim physics. Outside of iRacing I haven't played a NASCAR game that feels this good to play with a wheel. Some people on the forums likening it to NR:Thunder but it's far better than that. It's fun without taking it down to the Grid 2 or Shift style of sim-cade racing. I am using a DFGT if you were wondering, the FFB is great and the wheel feels really solid and great to play with.

AI. I'm sure will improve. Eutechnyx are still quite new to the NASCAR game scene, this being their 3rd major release so I think part of the PC Beta is to understand what people want and I'm sure a good AI balance is one of the things. I haven't dabbled fully in the hardcore racing, just a couple of easy difficulty from the back races and they are easy to pass of course so I will give better views when I get used to it and crank up the difficulty.

Tracks. Tried out Darlington, Dover and Charlotte and all look beautiful, feel authentic, plenty going on and more importantly are remarkable in accuracy. iRacing uses laser scanning technology but Darlington on NTG2013 almost matches it. Obviously it won't be as accurate without being laser scanned but its very good indeed. Track accuracy may of course change from track to track.

I am yet to dive into career mode but I'm sure the basic structure is the same as in 2011 so most of you know how it works.

Is it worth buying? So far, yes. Even in beta stage it is a fun game to play and if you have been missing a NASCAR game on PC. You should be buying this right away and getting on the beta. Perhaps you could even help improve aspects.

If anyone who hasn't bought it or wants to know more before buying it in its current beta stage. Feel free to drop questions and I'll try to answer.

Video: I have had difficulty getting BandiCam to capture racing gameplay smoothly so here is a quick glance at the PC menu.

Sounds good and all, now the big big big question mark is if the online works.
Also, do you know if you can sim like in NR? Not a deal breaker but would be quite nice.

I'm fairly confident it won't have dedicated servers, so that's already a big red flag for me. Will everything run smoother than Inside Line? Instinct tells me it will. But, it'll still likely have the same unorganized mess of a lobby system the console versions have.

How do you mean can sim? Not sure what that is.

The online testing starts in a few weeks.

Ah right I see. No I don't believe so. But there is still time. They are tweaking a lot at the moment. The next beta patch due soon is said to add a number of PC specific requests.

Some screenshots from the PC Beta version. Not running at maximum graphics as it seems there are a few FPS stability issues on my system at least. There are not very many graphics scaling options yet, just draw distance, reflections, AA and FXAA. They have said on the forums the next steam update will allowed us to adjust more to scale it better for our individual systems so expect some nicer shots to come shortly. Should give you a rough idea of where it is currently. I have run it at 60fps and it is superb at 60fps, sense of speed at Dover for example is excellent. This is 1080 res in game, 30fps, MSAAx2, FXAA off, draw distance medium and reflections low. Again hope to deliver some nicer shots when I can scale things like distant cars, crowds and such.

So I got my PS3 back and with it, I get to play this game again. So I decided to see what the difference would be with the COT and Gen 6 car using the same Preset Qualifying Setup at Indy (even though I normally stay away from setups on this game as I feel like I just ruin everything). Got these lap times:

COT: 0:50:97 (205.44)

Gen6: 0:50:73 (205.24)

Has anyone been able to get the 49s or 48s they get in real life? As useless as I am at driving with setups, I'd love ot at least get close.
remember

Edit: Also did that with a controller, which perhaps isn't good for that preset setup. Maybe the wheel will give me times that aren't dangerously close to being slower then Nationwide

Does anyone know whether the eu version of this game will get the GEN 6 cars?

I doubt it will happen to be honest. Seems like Eutechnyx have kicked the console version to the side, and started to focus on the PC version. 👎

Next game Eutechnyx make will be on the current consoles and not the next gen ones.

Thoughts ?

I think it's a mistake.

Eutechnyx has already put out one mediocre NASCAR game and one utter disaster (NTG '11) on current-gen. I doubt they can get much, if any more performance out of these consoles, which means the next installment likely won't be nearly as big a step in the right direction as needed.

And these games tend to struggle in sales as it is. Taking that into consideration, I'd rather build for the future and develop a game for consoles that's player base will increase over the course of time, not decrease.

Also, I expect the next game to release sometime in the spring-summer of next year. That would put the first next-gen NASCAR title at spring, 2016 at the earliest. Thanks but no thanks. Me personally, the only current-gen games left for me are GTA V and GT6. After that (technically before as I plan on getting one at launch), I'm moving on to next-gen, with or without Eutechnyx.
