If you saw the NASCAR race results from Martinsville, the closing moments (because I missed 75% of the race) were absolutely strange. I won't spoil the ending, but... congratulations to the winning driver and the winning team.

Well, i like the blue deuce, looks pretty fast in practice, maybe Jamie Mac or Bowyer as an outside whack

I'll go with Jeff Burton as he's been pretty good.

Last race was a real bummer with the flat tire.
He felt it going down 4-5 laps before she blew and he/we were hoping for a caution.
Well it happened and he was it, oh well.

Hamlin was great driving through to the win.
Busch, not so lucky.
 
That was crazy, Kyle had all the wrong things happen to him and he comes right back in the last few laps for a win. That is just amazing.

Why are they measuring race distance in Kilometers all of a sudden?

375 Miles does not sound as good as 600 when you leave out the Kilometers?
 
It's not the first time NASCAR has had Km races.
This used to be the Arron's 312 Km race.

Why, I don't know.
 
Made it home just to see my favorite driver get the win.:):)

Edit: I also noticed Robby Gordon finished 14th, a very good run for that team.👍

I'm not really a Newman fan, but I'll take his win over Johnson or Kyle Busch any day of the week. Plus, my favorite driver finished second. :)
 
Watched an entire NASCAR race for the first time this weekend, although the recording (the race was due to finish at around 5am here) ended about 30 seconds after the 9th caution was thrown (on lap 371) so I missed the end. Wanted JPM to win, purely as a former F1 driver. Not sure I'll be watching NASCAR races regularly - I just don't have the time to commit, especially to such a long event - but I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Glad I just got shots of the cars without commentary whilst everyone else had adverts though, ads every 10 minutes would do my head in.

I had a long Saturday, so I wasn't able to see all of the race. I did see it with about 51 laps to go. Jeff Gordon just had a horrific restart and couldn't reel in (the race winner).

Up next... Texas! Yeah, my home state (along with RACECAR, McLaren and others).

He said he spun the tires and that allowed Newman to get to the corner and a good exit out. Poor guy, thats 3 times he had the win right there and it slipped from him.

Thanks for that. That video started about 10 seconds before my recording finished. I'd seen the result and thought 'What? Newman?' Makes sense now though 👍
 
So Hendrick Motorsports has a new star.

Kasey Kahne signed with HMS for next year, today. A multi-year contract actually.

Wonder who the odd man out will be? Has Jr. not preformed well enough? Honestly I think he has not, or rather, no better than any other driver of the cursed 25 car, which is what the 88 really is...

:lol: Actually, he will apparently be at Stewart Haas, at least until Martin's seat opens up.

I bet he will do well in one of those cars, the Petty Ford's are good, but SHR and HMS are consistently quick week in and out. Then again, Newman and Earnhardt both only have one win apiece, and Gordon struggles for wins, but generally runs well.


Edit- And wow, Jeff Gordon has a lifetime HMS contract, where can you go for that kind of coverage. :lol: I never knew that.

Part of that deal was also part ownership in a car, that car is the 48.


I think Kahne will do well in a Hendrick car, not sure how it will be arranged though.

Well I knew he owned half of the 48, but I didn't know it was that sweet of a deal.:drool:
 
I think Kahne will be replacing Martin.

Also Mcmurray will be in the 88 car for JRM in 9 races. I can't wait to see how that works out.

Its Dale. He's nowhere near performing well as his teammates are and I get the feeling his driving days are over. If you notice, he has never truly gotten to grips with the COT ever since it arrived, at least not enough to perform like his teammates have. Only two wins at a track where unfortunately most of his wins in the old car are, everwhere else has been nothing short of poor. Someone will probably only hire him because he is "Jr!!" and find sponsors but thats it. He is nothing more then a Sponsor magnet, which is sad really because he used to wheel the hell out of a car. Now he can't even stay above 20th and even if he qualifies well, he loses it all. I know Jr fans will hate for saying this, but he's done. He's just not cutting it on the track anymore.

I think Kahne will actually produce some great results much more often at Hendrick. He'll have much more confidence at a more stabilised team and a even better car, which will might result in someone that could actually dethrone Jimmie Johnson.

I can't see that happening at all. After that performance last year, that would be a stupid move to replace him. Rotating cars(assuming they keep him and Gufstason together), maybe but kicking Martin out, Hell no.

I think Mcmurray will actually give that 88 a much needed result.
 
I think by 2012 Martin will either be retired or racing a limited schedule. That's my reasoning. WE can only wait and see.

I like Dale, but from a realistic standpoint, I have to agree. He's had some good finishes here and there, and even a couple wins, but other than that his performance over the last couple of years has been less than noteworthy. I'm sorry, but it seems like he's lost his touch. He might be able to get back on top of his game, only time will tell.

Exactly. He's still got some weight in his right foot, and he's having a good time, so there's no reason to get rid of him.

EDIT: And if Kahne brings Budweiser back to Hendrick, who bets historic paint job?

I think this is a bit premature for Kasey. Okay, he might be 26th down in the points at the moment but why all of a sudden after being very vocal about the Fords suddenly backdraft and switch to Chevy and Hendrick?

I think some green has talked here and if this move is fianancially motivated for Kasey, bad move because at best, he will be shipped to SHR for a year
 
Absolutely, 01GTP. Mark Martin is NASCAR's David Coulthard. A tragic hero that has won a lot of races, but never the championship. I want Mark Martin to win a championship to basically complete him for all the years in cup. It may never happen considering that #48 is always on top, but I have true and total respect for Mark Martin. He's a real iron man of NASCAR.

Do any of you have predictions as to who'll win any of the races at Texas this weekend in Nationwide and Cup? Who you got winning in the home state of many of GTPlanet's native Texans (including myself)?

Hmm..

Hendrick said he approached the 51-year-old stalwart and asked about the possibility of him driving another full-time season beyond the terms of his current contract, which runs through next year. Hendrick said Martin told him he couldn't, opening the door for the 30-year-old Kahne.
