Would have loved to see Bosh on Houston, it would have been the perfect fit next to Dwight and made the Rockets into tier 1 contenders, but I understand why he went back to Miami. In addition to the money and continuity for his family, the Heat, with Bosh, Wade and maybe Deng, have a better chance of going to the finals in the weak East than the Rockets in the loaded West. Bosh will also have a new more pronounced offensive role on the re-shuffled Heat. I think we will see more of the face-up game we saw from Bosh in Toronto.
Bruno Caboclo had a better game than most would probably have anticipated in Summer League day 1, 12pts on 5-7FG and some nice defensive plays.
The Brazilian Durant looked very promising. He's still very raw and doesn't have much of a handle, but his shooting and movement will give much hope to Raptor fans. Bebe looked good alongside as well.

Pau Gasol says he'll play for the Bulls. What do you think about Pau Gasol playing for your Bulls, sumbrownkid?

I'm still skeptical about Bebe, the dude is incredily skinny and doesn't have any one standout skill that I can see which will make it hard for him to survive in the NBA. Compounding that is the fact he's injury prone (missed most of his last season with knee issues) and 2nd in the depth chart for Centres on the Raptors. It's a dangerous situation.

Edit: Also, I don't understand why the Bulls got rid of Boozer and signed Gasol, are they not exactly the same overpaid, defence avoiding, low post playing, over the hill players? In fact Pau Gasol is probably more over the hill than Boozer.

Edit 2: Paul Pierce to......the Wizards?! Didn't see that coming. Dante Exum was pretty awesome in his debut, lightning quick and opens up team mates off the dribble really well, making good to great passes. His stats don't tell the whole story IMO (10pts 3ast), you could tell he was a cut above all the other players on the court. His fitness needs work though, he was tiring himself out way too much and it showed.

For this post, happy 19th birthday, Dante Exum! :). He was on NBA TV today on "The Starters," meaning TWO Australians were on the set (co-host Leigh Ellis is the other, of course).

I'll need some time to gauge the Rockets' talent for this upcoming season. Sadly, I don't think this team at present could improve from last season. A potential contender could be even more so with some talent to support Dwight Howard and James Harden. The returning Trevor Ariza can be a great boost. I just wonder whom else can fill the roster and make an impact for us here in Houston.

Parsons to the Mavs! Extremely happy that deal worked out after Carter left. Need to get Marion back though, else that whole, "keep the group together for once"that Dirk wanted will be gone.

Do you think Ariza can replace Parsons @JohnBM01? Who is the Rockets starting point guard now with Lin gone anyway? Not saying they're definitely worse, but it's hard to see where/if they've improved.

Chandler Parsons has been a stellar player. He could play for anybody, really. We've have Trevor Ariza before. He brings a great presence and can really light things up from three. I still remember that game last season either at home or on the road when Trevor Ariza decided to go Beast Mode in the Third Quater nailing three-pointer after three-pointer to make the game close. I think we still won that game, so that's all that mattered. :)

One thing about me is that I don't really pay attention to positions on the floor or know of most players' positions. Therefore, I don't know who we got at Point Guard since shipping off Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers. All I know is that I am a good bit skeptical about our lineup and if the Rockets can improve with the current pieces. This past season's Rockets weren't exactly beasts, but it was their hustle and grind that made them so successful. Just too bad it all had to end on a buzzer-beating, 1,000,000-to-1 3-point bomb at Portland last season.

So while Chandler Parsons was great, I sort of like the Trevor Ariza pickup more because Ariza has a good bit more experience than Parsons. He's got a bit more experience and is a solid talent.

Brock Motum (Aussie) scored 16pts for the Jazz today! I was watching for Exum and good ol' Brock came out of nowhere with a great game.:D

Edit: Almost forgot, Dellavedova scored 19pts as well, he'll continue to be a great back-up for Iriving.👍

NBA Mid-season tournament? Have a look:

http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ll-consider-it-also-talks-replay-system-more/

How do you like the idea of a midseason tournament? That was one of many ideas being pitched at a recent conference. Reaction to this from ESPN shows like "Around the Horn" and "Pardon the Interruption" range from this being a novel idea to this making the NBA more like the UEFA Champions League in soccer. If implemented, there would be a mid-season tournament to be held in Las Vegas pitting some of the Top 8 teams at the time of the break. The number of regular season games would be shortened, which would mean not as much revenue for the various arenas. This idea of a mid-season tournament is actually one of how to try to help make the NBA more profitable. So what do you think about all of this?

Here's an off-topic note. I curiously wanted to know more about two certain players- Dan Majerle of Phoenix Suns fame and Detlet Schrempf of Seattle Supersonics fame. Both of those guys could play! I never really followed the NBA in the 1990s- not even to see as many games as possible when my Rockets won the NBA Championship in the 1993-1994 and 1994-1995 seasons. I never really became any traditional sports fan until about 2002. Anyhow, I was pretty impressed seeing Dan Majerle knock down three-point shot after three-point shot. As for Detlef Schrempf, it's safe to say he was the German superstar before today's German superstar- future Hall of Famer (in my view) Dirk Nowitzki.

Certainly if you're on YouTube, go see some old videos on older players and teams. A lot of people even love the NBA of old compared to today's NBA- usually in the sense of future legends and in hard fouls. That was something I just wanted to share outside of what's going on in the NBA lately.

NBA Mid-season tournament?

No. What would be the point for the winners? How will this affect standings? And what about the more important playoffs? No thanks to that.

Dan Majerle
👍

Also, Phoenix Rookie TJ Warren is looking really good in Summer League. Averaging something like 21 points per game on 60% shooting. Could probably create more ridiculous depth at a position we don't need more depth at.

Any pleasant surprises from your guy's SL roster's?

@JohnBM01 I think the mid-season tournament is a terrible idea, it means less basketball to watch on the whole and more wear/tear thus penalising the top teams.

Maybe that Bruno Caboclo is more like 1 year away from being 1 year away as opposed to that currently famous 2 years away from 2 years away quote.

LeBron James just wants some love. Kevin Love, that is. It is being said that LeBron reached out to him in possibly having K-Love play for the Cavaliers. That would mean that Andrew Wiggins could possibly be shopped in hopes of getting Kevin Love. Do you think this deal would be made? And if so, could this move improve the Cavaliers this upcoming season?

Arrgh! How disappointing! Patty Mills and Aron Baynes are doing the NBA trophy tour in Australia currently and were in Brisbane today, we made the trip down and paid for parking etc. only to find out they were already gone because the event schedule was changed at the last minute.👎
@JohnBM01 I think a Wiggins/Love trade would certainly improve the Cavs immediately, but long term I'm not so sure. I know one thing, if I'm Minnesota I'm pushing hard for that deal!

Bulls are set to sign Aaron Brooks to take up the PG spot after Rose.

I like this.

@JohnBM01: I personally love the Gasol addition, as we effectively are getting a better Boozer for less money. And with Mcdermott impressing, Bulls just got more flexible in talent.

As for Love, I think any trade deal involving Kevin Love to Cleveland will involve more pieces than just Wiggins and will ultimately do more harm than good.

It's better off to wait a season and try their hand in free agency when Love becomes available to court.

Cleveland though is definitely right next to the Bulls for favorites in the East.

That's a shame mate. 👎

Probably old news by now but their "cameo" on a Fox sports news report was hilarious, the ugh on the reporters face is classic.

Better not like it too long. This dude's career isn't going to be around in a couple years judging by his team track record.

Well if it's anyone that can wring a person out, it's Thibs. He just gets people to buy into his system.

I read on ESPN's Bottom Line that former Rocket Aaron Brooks is apparently going to join the Chicago Bulls. Aaron Brooks, who is about the same height as me (6'0") is going to give the Bulls a bit more of a push.

I do think the Bulls will be a great contender in the East even with all the Cavaliers talk. Really, most of my favorites to challenge Cleveland in the East are mostly Midwestern teams and Canada's only remaining Canadian franchise- the Toronto Raptors (and I'm not saying this just to make Paulie happy). Well... Midwestern teams besides Milwaukee. I think Washington and Atlanta certainly have to be favorites to have great seasons in the East. Atlanta, though, usually has the same sort of history as Houston pro sports teams- very good, but not good enough to be championship material. So my confidence in the Hawks is a bit shaky. My real wild card would be Charlotte. Could going old school with the Hornets namesake revitalize the team formerly known as the Charlotte Bobcats?

I guess those are my little Eastern Conference musings heading into this upcoming season.

 Bringing video bombs to Australia, good work boys.👍

So apparently the Bulls are back in contention for getting Kevin Love. Come on Chicago, as nice as a player Love can be, giving up apparently Gibson and Butler is too much imo. We already have a great team that's BALANCED.

Speaking of the Bulls, Bairstow has signed his rookie contract there.👍 I was a little worried he'd get stashed in Europe after the Gasol signing.
Brock Motum also got a training camp invite to the Jazz after impressing in Summer League, one step closer to being the 15th man on the bench.👍 (Hey, that's how Dellavedova got in, now a regular back-up to Irving). I hope Motum does get in, I'm going to make an all Aussie team in NBA 2K15 (if the game doesn't gitch uncontrollably making it unplayable like 2K13, I skipped 2K14 due to disgust with 2K Sports). Having Motum will give us 7 Aussies, I can fill the rest of the roster out with specialists and stuff or something.

I don't know about the Bulls, but the latest trade the Cavs made they're saying indicates they're still trying to make a Love trade work.

Look at the Bulls's lineup:

C - Noah
PF - P. Gasol
SF - McDermott/Dunleavy
SG - Butler
PG - Rose

How the hell do you play small against that? And, yo, I think McDermott is going to become the best player in the NBA. Hopefully they use him more and don't just make him spread the floor and feed Gasol.

Ouch that sucks, I was disappointed they weren't coming to Adelaide but it would be even worse to found out I missed them.

The Suns still haven't re-signed Bledsoe, mainly because Rich Paul Bledsoe and the suns aren't on the same terms.

Also, people are trying to link Greg Monroe to the suns, even though he is the exact opposite if what they need, a slow, prodding big man who can't shoot outside of 5 feet and doesn't know what defense means.

/end of rant. I'm still mad about Frye leaving, so yeah. Anyways, I see no way Minny would decline that offer from the Bulls. It's just too good to pass up.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, the NBA is considering extending the All-Star Break a full week. Key word: considering. You all cool with a full week of All-Star activity for the NBA?

There won't be activity the entire week, and that's the point. The players want a real break, especially the All-Stars.

It's fair enough, it may mean one less week of nothing happening off-season as well. At least the All-Stars won't be very tired from being All-Stars when they get back in to meaningful games.

THIS JUST IN...

...it is said that a judge has ordered a tentative sale of the Los Angeles Clippers. So it looks like the sale will be complete. The judge ruled against Donald Sterling's $2B USD block of the Clippers sale. I saw this on FOX Sports 1 as breaking news. Here is a little article I semi-randomly found with a little more info on today's decision:

http://ktla.com/2014/07/28/judge-si...in-probate-trial-over-proposed-clippers-sale/

What do you think about this ruling and for the Clippers moving forward?

Writing was on the wall. He can now leave the NBA even if he doesn't want to.

I would feel really bad for the ex-Laker Clippers fans if Sterling stayed, because that would end arguably their most successful years, since Doc would've quit, Chris Paul wouldn't have played, and who knows what else would've happened.

Now Sterling might do something completely insane like trying to take it to Supreme Court or something. :nervous:
