Looks like need for speed the Run will ''run'' on the frostbite engine

''This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level,” said Jason DeLong, Executive Producer at EA. “We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”

Using the groundbreaking Frostbite 2 engine, Need for Speed The Run will set the bar with unparalleled visual quality and enhanced physics. Need for Speed The Run will also take immersive storytelling to a new level with cutting edge performances that will draw the player into a world with no speed limits, rules or allies. Autolog, the Need for Speed franchise’s revolutionary social competition functionality, is back and better in Need for Speed The Run as it will continue to reinvent how people play games, track career progression and compare game stats.

Developed by Black Box, a studio of Electronic Arts, Need for Speed The Run will be available November 15, 2011 in North America and November 17, 2011 in Europe for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, Wii and Nintendo 3DS''

And I'm upset they aren't doing another, or at least, not offering anywhere near the amount of DLC they did for their own games.

And I'm upset you haven't been talking about HP3 like you used to.

I'm trying to get more people joining the little time attack competition I run.

Mm. Not impressed by the trailer really, looks like the same kind of rubbish that Undercover featured. Really thought they would let Criterion make another Hot Pursuit after HP3's relative success.

Oh well, at least Shift 2 will probably get a sequel at some point.

This definately sounds very intriguing. Will probably be quite fun to play. Hot Pursuit was fun and if this can be simalair to that in anyway it could be excellent. Story sounds interesting and the fact its running the Frostbite engine can only be a good thing.

I do think people should stop looking at this as a racing game for the time being. It certainly appears to be an action game as much as a racing game so we shouuld stay open minded before judging it from a tiny trailer which shows nothing of significance.

I wouldn't mind if it turns into a sorta CarPG. The previous NFS games wern't really RPGs as you had to do the same events, but not necessarily in one order. But it'll just be weird if you can hop out of the car and start killing random people like in GTA :irked:

Looks interesting... Could be a lot of fun if they pull this off properly.

Am I right in thinking this is a race across America, taking in the entire route? That would be very ambitious! Must be broken into sections though.

It also looks like an action film with driving being the focus. The bit on the train tracks looks interesting. If only this would have Shift's physics engine....

AOS-
Wow I knew this thread would reveal more closet HP3 Players, didn't expect so many......

Sorry for off topic but how is the wheel support on this title?

Any news on Fanatecs?

Need for speed- The F#&k

I like hot pursuit but its too soon for another NFS game, specially with Driver San Francisco around the corner, for me the series died in carbon which was the last good NFS game that I played,I guess that hot pursuit was good but,meh...

Cop and chase games,I go with driver,at least it has more gameplay instead of overdramatic cut scenes and awful acadish physics.

In any case, never liked test drive unlimited, but I really liked the NFS games on the original xbox, they should make a remake of the first underground or something, that would way better than EA taking on Ubisoft, like EA taking on Sony.

What in the world are you on about? NFS games come out every year; Hot Pursuit came out last year November. The Run is releasing this year in November.

How is that too soon?

Someone obviously doesn't pay attention to how EA does business.....

I don't talk much about it because there's not much left for me to talk about. Rest assure, it is among my Top 5 favorite games, though; Ferrari is the only thing missing from it. I still play it maybe 1-3 times a week for 30-60 minutes, because the sound in the game is absolutely amazing. Every car is unique & it's very rare for developers to include the burble that comes from the exhaust when you come off the gas.

I very much love Criterion for taking the game back to its roots & I wish Black Box would do the same. They're moving away from the tuner aspect of the game & I like that, but the cheesy storylines is a bit much. I'm very interested to see how a cross-country race will play out though with world's current popular cars.

Similarity, I also give Criterion props for "The Cannonball" event in their DLC & the black Countach. 👍

It takes some time to make a good game, specially when you consider racing games(not 5 years but you get the point),a rushed game in 1 year will be another hot pursuit, same physics but with different locations, look what happened to undercover and pro street, rushed in a year and all dreadful, rushed games that doesn't shown innovative stuff fails, and are just based on fanbase to buy them, look at COD,it manages to crate a huge fanbase and black-ops wasn't as good as MW2,so its all about the money, besides driver San Francisco is coming soon and EA had to respond in some way,so its all about who sells more,I put my money on driver,at least the dev team seem to take a reasonable amount of time to create a decent game,or at least I hope so.

They're not made within' a year. What can't you comprehend that they are released every year by different developers, meaning that most of the games are actually in development for around 2+ years.

Black Box's last game was NFS World & whilst part of the team has been updating it, the other half has been developing The Run since Undercover's completion in 2008. Now, iirc, that's 3+ years of development, not 1.

How many times must people say that EA is not a developer its a publisher, and for all we know Black box (developing the title) could be developing this one since undercover (their last console game) was released. I think they also did World but that was more than two years ago, so they must be working on this title at least for two years now. I really cant seem to figure out your problem, mine is that I cant afford all those games and must pick them carefully... unfortunatly, but the more the better...

EDIT: Damn Mclaren beat me to it...

Why do you keep bringing up Driver? That releases (last I checked) in August. The Run releases in November. And when you already have a basic foundation for a game title, why would you essentially re-invent the wheel when you can just tack on additional features and improve upon it? And what does Pro Street (a completely different type of NFS game) have to do with this, or Undercover for that matter?

This NFS game may be the game which will bring me hope that the NFS Series has legs for the long haul. After Undercover, I've lost all hope for a good game (remember, IMO) in the Need For Speed Series. While the trailer was predictably vague (BullRun with Cheesy NFS Storyline) it peaked my interest higher than expected and much higher than releases of the last few years. For me, this is the make or break game in the NFS series. If this one is a dog and a cat simultaneously, I'll be sticking with NFS World, Most Wanted, and High Stakes.

(I'm still waiting for a proper sequel to High Stakes btw)

Could you imagine a "cross-country" street racing game with a sim-racing feel? The physics engine would be like GT or iRacing (If possible) and then have the ability to drive around the country, doing street races, and track days while focusing more on the way of making your car fast and not rewarding you with ricing out your car! *Cough*Undeground*Cough* Cockpit view would be cool also.

No one's done up a prospective car list yet? I'm surprised. Looks like the standard NFS car list, though. Haven't really seen anything new.

Look interesting...I'd definitely rent it. Not getting my hopes up again and buying it though. NFS consistently disappoints, though I haven't tried Shift 2.

It's a teaser trailer with less than a near second for each car.

As far as I can tell, there's the new GT500 Super Snake, Audi R8, Ford Taurus (presumably, a SHO), a Porsche 911 w/ a black car behind it, Camaro, M3 GTS, I'm guessing a Gumpert, RX-7, GT-R, & Aston Vantage w/ a red car next to it.

And the chopper on the cover :dopey:
