They made kidney grilles smaller. :dopey:

It looks like it's got a crimson chin, now.

C'mon, BMW. It's like a bull dozer in the front and coal shute out back.

There's also no mistaking these designs are coming to life exactly like the concepts on paper. Big wheels, big sides with short greenhouses. I've never seen so many traces of over fenders on one car.
Should have done E30 M3 style fender bulges.

I really want to like BMW design, but they're killing me.

It's wild how one of the world's most acclaimed car brands went from creating some of the best and most timeless car designs between the 80's and early 2000's to releasing these atrocities into the world.
I still think the E39 5 series, no matter which trim level, is one of the greatest designs in the last 30 years.

I completely agree! E38, E39 & E46 - That era was peak BMW! All of these cars are perfectly proportioned and the perfect blend of elegance and athleticism.

The E38 is the best looking luxury sedan ever made imo. It looks premium and elegant but also sleek and athletic at the same time. The G70 just looks vulgar by comparison. As if the car was sold with a Mansory bodykit straight from the factory.

Right on time for oil to hit $200 per barrel.

Should put coins over the headlights. BMW design is dead. I will say in the same breath I’m for the revival of the early kidney grille.

Totally forgot about the 2011 328 Concept. Should have done these lights if that’s the case.

Neue Klasse is the Emperor's New Clothes. It looks rubbish when scaled up to SUVs, and the overall shape of the i3 is tripe.

Why?

The interior reminds me of a speedboat's. To think Mercedes and BMW were considered excessive in 1980 and 1990.. I feel like this design bloat has struck most of the automotive market.

The X5 has always, in my eyes, looked pretty good for an SUV. Just the right level of sporty and muscular. Unfortunately this proportionally looks like a scaled up front-drive X1.

I quite like the Neue Klasse style direction, but the headlights and tail lights on this are terrible looking. Slightly odd steering wheel aside, the interior looks pretty good though.

For me, I don't love it but I don't hate it either. I'm not a fan of the X in the headlights but other than that, this feels like another BMW that people will have to wait for it to grow on them...after all, that seems to be the case for a lot of their cars lately. "Give it time and it will grow on you" 🤦‍♂️

The Bangle affect i'd call it. People almost universally hate the looks when it comes out, but they sell loads anyway so become a common sight on the roads and you just become desensitised to how the look - even though they still look jarring.

BMW do seem particularly adept at it for some reason.

Bangle cars still had round headlights, stacked tail lights, Hoffmeisters, and elegantly proportioned kidneys, including the X5. These new cars carry none of that graphical DNA. Bangle came up with a funky trunklid but that was it, everything else was clearly BMW.

Can't say the same for Bangle-era interiors which I still find hideous but these new interiors are equally appalling, moreso with that godforsaken weapon of a steering wheel. Looks like something used to defend the gates of hell from welldoers.

What a way to RUIN a decent looking X5 imo - Is it me or that steeering wheel scream out barghh/stupidity in design, I dont want a large square accordion for a steering wheel, the spokes top and bottom look so bizarre. Why 4 spoke, just because yaaa? Ok BMW???

It looks soooo bad, some of the rest of the interior is not bad looking with nicely touched leather materials etc, but that wedge hex screen is too distracting for a driver. Not only that you get a second one for free to distract your idiot passenger, if ppl who drive these tings are not distracted enough by being on their phones texting poorly while driving!

In this review the self opening doors catch the presenter out lol, BMW boffs look baffled. Wait this is not a bloody Rollsyyy royce for crying out loud is it Beemersss.

Oh, it gets better. I’ve just seen a post on Instagram showing all three trim levels. Each one has a different style of steering wheel and all three styles are equally terrible.

Typically I would love four spokes on a car meant for cruising. Spokes at 9 and 2, and 7 and 4. Leaves a lovely central hand hold which promotes stability while resting your hand on the freeway.

It's okay that four-spokes looks less athletic because it's a lame SUV daily driver.

Unfortunately, BMW has screwed this up on several levels. It doesn't look sporty at all, but it isn't comfortable either, and it also looks like an alien spacecraft for no obvious reason. It's just idiotic design, I can't figure it out.
