The viper's icon status is on a steady incline though..

had they not lost factory backing in le mans it's history would be even greater..

but in terms of someone buying a80,000* viper and expecting it to be faster than a vette..

you're right....I would too..

but then again..if I can spend 80,000...i can afford another 500 bucks..

that will deffinately make it beat a vette...

The Viper will never be on the same level as the Vette...the Vette is 53 years old, the Viper is what 14-15 years old?

But stock for stock the Vette is as good as the Viper, but if you want to compare modded things you ould easily put the 15,000 more the Viper is into the Vette and have a street legal car that would run 9's.

...using the same engine?

you sure bout that?

well yeah..but it would require a complete tear down and rebuild.....

like to an extreme extent...
and would probably cost all of your 15,000

and can you STILL get them for msrp?

if so that's amazing..

I'm talking about a Z06 mind you, its a 427 it can handle quite a bit of power in fact I would guess it would be able to be in the 1000's without a problem.

You can find Z06's in the Detroit area, hell there is one on the lot not that far from my house...I'm sure its just there as a teaser or something.

oh i know about the 427...

but with the high compression and everything wouldn't it require alllll new internals..

not to mention cpu tuning hasn't been really done yet..

so even if you got one now..you can't really do much besides maybe get lucky with a cam profile...and.....some headers

The factory rods in the LS7 are titanium, the only things you would have to change for forced induction would be the slugs, head gaskets and maybe go to a stronger head bolt. I'm sure there will be a piggyback fuel-timing controller on the market by the end of this year, if not already.

On the topic of big power - a local guy here sprays his stock bottom-end LS1 Camaro SS with a 300 shot. The car pops a wheelie and runs 9's for gods sake. Anyway, the LS7 is supposed to be an all around better motor. Do the math.

I'm suprised things didn't melt on him, to boost an engine by 300 horses and leave it pretty much stock is asking for it to blow.

Ok Guys,

Until we can get some tuning software Cold air induction or slide a new cam in this car we are at some sort of a limit.

And I mean "Some Limit". This is more than we ever thought possible. We have a total of 71 miles on the car now.

REDLINE OIL's President Tim Kerrigan is the owner of this car. So there was no question that we were going to change the fluids to REDLINE. We changed the engine oil to Redline 5w-30. We changed the trans fluid to Redline D4 ATF, and the rear end got 75/90 gear lube with redline friction additive.

I then put about 2 miles on the car and pulled it back on the dyno.
(the car went to the dyno all by itself without me touching the wheel)

We gave it a cool down period and did some pulls.

The results are that we have hit a new high of:
492.2 rwhp 472.3 rwtq

The results that this new Z06 that GM has put out are nothing short of fantastic. The scary part is that it will probably get better with some proper break in miles. We did over 10 miles of dyno roller time which is usually very good break in time.

The other realization is the fact that when everyone gets LS-7 edit tuning software the bar will again be raised. how much, without going into the engine? I don't know. Of course the usual mods like cam and porting the heads, ported throttle bodies, cold air intakes etc will reap many advances.

I am looking forward to the arrival of my own Z06 so i can be a little more unforgiving with the parts we deem R & D parts. My car will be the "Mule" where we will find out what works ( I will have the cam of the week) and then we can impliment them in our customer cars.

so stay tuned. There are great cars.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Simply amazing!

By the way, when you guys meant "bottom end." You are talking about the stuff like crankshaft and the connecting rods right? :odd:

Wow, this thread's alive again! School is killing me--I'm lucky to make it over here once a week these days!

Driftster, you're right. Your average Joe is going to have a hard time for a few more months until the tuners get a chance to dial in on the right mods. But you have to think, they have the C6.R motor (and cam) that folks DO know the profile for, and you have to take the gas mileage thing into account. Without that handicap, you know that engine would be making a LOT more power than it does. And that wouldn't require a complete rebuild. Of course, it won't quite get you 1000 hp either. But it could get you close. But none of that stuff will be available for a couple months at the very least.

EDIT
Bottom end=block, pistons, rods, crank, etc. Am I leaving anything out?

Long tube headers, no air filter, and new oils.........

edit--

Blazin..Do you know the rod length on the LS7?

Cause I'm wodering....could you just change the slugs?

That'd be so sweet if you could.

or is the rod length long to the point that a smaller piston would just make it lower in strength

WAY LONG! The stroke is so long they have skirts coming off the bottom of the block, or the pistons would fall right out of the block. This engine is pretty much done being played with, as least the bottem end of it. I think the only thing you could do is replace the pistons themselves with forged pistons, which will happen (and is only necessary) when someone decides to force induct the car.
