I really don't see why they had to go and ruin the Falcon shape by introducing elements of the Mondeo into it. Now it's just a right-wheel-drive, six-cyl and V8-powered bigger Mondeo.

Global design schemes make global companies seem more "together," which makes a lot of sense. I just wish the American arm would get on that bandwagon...

Australia seems to be more or less in a similar boat to us. I know you can get the Commodore and Monaro in Europe, but are other Holdens pretty common in Europe? What about Ford Australia? Do they share with Europe?

Holdens are spread all throughout the middle east and Asia as rebadged Chevys and Buicks. Otherwise most of Australia's line-up is imported from overseas, like the Astra, and Holden gets a few Daewoos too unfortunately because they're "cheaper". There's talk that we'll get the Barina replaced with a European model again soon though. I think FPV might be exporting some models to Europe soon as well, in very small quantities. Ford's model is mainly imported from Europe, like the Focus and Mondeo, but Focus production is due to begin in Australia soon I think to compensate for the loss of the Ford inline 6.

What he said...

Anything that isn't a Zeta-based car in the Holden lineup is pretty much an Opel/Vauxhall. More Vauxhall, really.

The entire GM lineup will eventually consist of spin-offs of the same Corsa, Astra, Vectra, Zafira, Commodore across the board... Each brand applying their own style, substance, and performance attitude to the basic structure. The Camaro will be a global model as well, and I believe plans are to make the Corvette do so as well.

Eventually you'll pretty much be able to buy the same car in Chicago, London, Berlin, Moscow, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sydney. A true GLOBAL operation.

I liked your other avatar better ;) Most of Holden's line-up currently is actually Daewoo. But the new Epica looks pretty good and is actually more fuel economic than a Camry. I'd show it here but this is a Falcon thread isn't it.

-> Hmm, Aussie Ford is following Holden's path of USDMing the Falcon:

Insideline
Spy Photos: Future Ford Falcon

DEARBORN, Michigan — Spy photographers continue to spot prototypes of future Australian-built Falcons near Ford's Glass House headquarters here, fueling speculation that Ford of Australia is playing a leading role in the development of Ford's future rear-wheel-drive vehicles in North America.

Inside Line reported last July that Ford's Australian subsidiary is doing much of the initial engineering work on a new family of rear-wheel-drive coupes and sedans for the U.S. for model-year 2012. The automaker's new Global Large Rear-Wheel-Drive Vehicle platform, as it is known internally, is expected to provide the base for the next-generation Crown Victoria, Mustang and Town Car in North America. For Australia, there will be replacements for the Falcon, Fairlane and LTD sedans, and there may also be a new rear-drive flagship sedan for Ford of Europe.

Ford's new RWD platform is being engineered to accommodate both V6 and V8 engines, including the new twin-turbo gasoline direct-injection TwinForce power plants that are being developed in Dearborn, as well as the company's new dual-clutch six-speed PowerShift transmission. Among the TwinForce engines reportedly under development for North America are a 3.5-liter V6 and a 5.0-liter V8.

Last month, Ford of Australia unveiled a heavily face-lifted Falcon, with new exterior and interior architectures and designs, an all-new front suspension, plus new powertrains with more power, more torque and better fuel economy.

What this means to you: Ford needs to lock in a plan soon for the next-generation Mustang, especially with the new Camaro and Challenger breathing down its neck. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor

^ Ever since Chrysler brought in the 300C/Charger twins, looks like GM (with their Aussie G8) and now Ford (with the Aussie 'Falcon') will play on the same playground on which they should be at years ago. Now bring ust the Euro Fiesta, Focus, and Mondeo. :)

A RWD Falcon with that twin-turbo V6 and a twin clutch transmission might be the first car FoMoCo has produced in a few years that I would actually consider owning. It'll be interesting to see how this car stacks up against the G8.

Oh, and Chrysler might want to think about getting that LY platform out sometime if these two cars take off in order to stay somewhat competitive...

<-- is in heaven. I <3 Ford. I can't WAIT to see these badboys stateside!

:D

If they bring over the Falcon and make the Mustang 1000 pounds lighter, Ford could be a huge success.

IF they bring it here. The thing is, I don't understand why they feel the need to develop an entirely new platform for the US when they've got the perfect thing right there.

*sigh*

As long as its here by 2011, I think we'll be okay...

Will this be available with Ecoboost?

If so, in the near future I predict this:

DID YOU SEE THAT FALCON GO?!?!?!?!?!

JCE has started something..

First: DID YOU SEE THAT TAURUS GO!?

Then: DID YOU SEE THAT WHEEL CLEANER GO!?

Now: DID YOU SEE THAT FALCON GO!?

:dunce:

I really do hope we get the Falcon by 2011.

Where? I thought the current falcon platform wasn't compatible with LHD.

Although if it isn't, I don't see why it would be so hard to build a mirror of the car after maybe a little development switching a couple things around.

I would take the Ecoboost over any V8 they could put under that unless it was some monster from a tricked out Mustang. Even still, I think the Corvette/Gm fan inside me would make me go out and get the G8 before this.

Maybe they just have it there road testing the new V6 it's getting. The L6 will die soon for Falcon, so they have to start testing some time.

So they have something new and upcoming? I imagine that'll be adapted to use here. Hopefully it won't look like that.

Given the launch time, it will likely use the new design language thats being developed. I doubt it will be anything like the Interceptor was, but, it would be absolutely AWESOME if it was.

...They need to replace the Panther chassis soon...

If I could have more than three lines in my sig I'd put that quote in it. :D

*cough* Interceptor *cough*

Daddy likes the Interceptor. So so so awsome...Ford needs to make that.

Why is it that other international Ford firms can design cars beautifully while Ford America gives us bloody abominations like our US-spec Focus? Maybe Ford U.S. of A should look to their international groups to design cars (or maybe just redesign the Focus to something similar to these newer non-American Fords. Saturn looked to Opel and have made some beautiful cars. Maybe Ford can do the same.

It took me some time to transistion from the 2000 Ford Falcon to one of the newer models. I think I said in the past that the Falcon of Today compared to the Ford Falcon similar to what was raced in the Australian V8 Supercars around this time didn't look too good. I think I said that they look like softened Mustangs. I eventually got used to them. Being American, all I ever get to see of Australia's Falcon is what I see in the Australian V8 Supercar Series. Like I can imagine being Craig Lowndes or somebody piloting one of these Falcons (only with the classic silver and black paint with green headlights). The two Falcons on Page 1 in Post 1 are both designed lovely. Most Australian sedans I've seen are more of angelic devils in which they look lovely and are well-rounded, but they pack some serious horsepower.

The Falcon XR from Page 1 looks very muscular despite being a bit subtle. I'm a person that likes subtle style. This machine looks muscular and aggressive up front. It all comes together so beautifully. The Falcon G-Series is a lot more elegant in design than the XR. I'm guessing that the XR can be thought of as XtReme while the G Series can be seen more as the Gentle series. I love the style of the G Series Falcon. If ever Ford plans to make a RWD sedan for the American market, I think they need to study what the Falcon G Series brings. Then maybe bring in the XR if they want something a bit more furious. The Falcon Ute looks beautiful as well. Could we be seeing some Falcon Utes like this racing series: < http://www.v8utes.com.au/index.php?page_id=505 >? This Falcon XR8 seems like a more powerful, more all-business car than the XR. It looks very sporty in design and probably performs the part as well. No Pontiac about it, but the Falcon G6E looks less subtle, yet still pretty stylish.

When I think of FPV, I usually think of GT4. I loved the FPV GT, except that it didn't come in my dream color combination (dark blue with white accents). So I settled for another combination in GT4- royal blue with white accents. The FPV F6 Turbo has a wonderful sky blue color. I'm okay with the dark-painted areas under the headlights and above the fog lamps. I'm usually not too fond of the "mustache" under the grills of cars like with the new GT-R.

All in all, the new Falcon is amazing. Not a Falcon I've disliekd in this thread. I approve these Falcons to the tune of 100%.

You sound more Australian than American except how you must liken the models to something else when Australians just know XR=Sport, G= Luxury.

Yeah, and it has the grill Chevy dreams of.

I have to admit, the Ford Interceptor kind of looks like a boat to me, sorry :indiff:

The funny thing is that it rides on a Mustang chassis and really isn't as big as you think it is. I saw it in Chicago two years ago, and I wouldn't really say it was any bigger than a Taurus. Which I guess on the world stage would be about the size of a Volvo S80.

I just love its "Americana" look.. I know the US companies are trying to rekindle this at the moment but they need to go even further with the designs and I think then they will be on to some winning models.

Imagine it in Police Trim!
