Just saying hi to the people here,

From what i've seen on the Various boards about GT4 is that i'm a beginner at the game though i did play GT 1, 2 and 3.

I've really only just started playing properly i suppose. Since after following a couple of threads i've seen else where, i've gone back and did events like the Lightwieght K cup in the Beginners hall.

I've only Completed 10.0% of the game, All of the Beginners Hall (Now) Though i have to redo The sunday cup. Done clubman and NA Sports, though i can't touch the cars in Tuning Car (Not tried recently though). Also done a couple of other events like Japanese Compact, British Lightweight Series and the first two in Special Condtions.

Trying to do the Lotus Classic event, but Laguna Seca is making my life difficult (I hate this course in all it's forms)

Other Details...
Only 1443 A Spec Pionts, B Spec Skill is 1171 and its Day 339.

My "Best" Car is a tuned FPV GT '04 with 642Bhp. Though i do have a Cadillac Cien. Anyway, some simple tips would be nice.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to GT Planet, you should be able to find all your GT4 needs here.

I would suggest starting with the FAQ thread (its one of the sticky ones above) and using the search tool if you are looking for help in a particular area.

You will also see that a number of additional boards exist here, with seperate ones for Videos & Photos and one for Tuning and settings.

Have a look around and as I say if you can't see what you need then try a search, and if that does not help then just ask.

Regards

Scaff

Well, i give ya a huge WELCOME TO GTP Greeting my friend. You will enjoy your stay here no mader how long or short it may be  . You can call me Ram, if you like.

welcome on GTP dawg.

Dont worry about the Laguna Seca, its a good track :) I'm going to make the Laguna Seca 200 Miles this tuesday :D

Simple tip: Buy an extra memory card, and back-up your game at least once a week from the Systems Menu by memory card to memory card transfer.

And do as Scaff says, search search search!

G'day and welcome!

Hi Shockwave iic welcome to the Planet.
For great hints and tips, use the FAQ, check out the tuning/settings forums and come and take a look at the race reports forum too, even if you don't read all the articles there, you'll get an idea of what sort of things you can do with various combinations of cars & competitions.
Also there's a few threads around on the various ways of getting 200pts for some races, there's a link in my signature to one of them.
To become better & better, practice! Also spend some time really learning the racing lines on the various circuits, rather than relying on brute horsepower. The licence tests are perfect practice, spend some time trying to get silver or gold on these rather than bronze & you'll find your driving improves massively. The demos for each licence tests are really useful too, watch them from the in car view and pay attention to braking points, the speed at which the various corners are entered and especially the racing line. Then try to emulate what you've seen, and it should really help out.
If you're really keen, look out for the Weekly Racing Series (WRS) which forces you to improve your driving, since times are only accepted for "clean" laps (no wall touches & 2 wheels on track at all times) you'll find it under online racing forum.
Hope this helps,
Smallhorses.

Thanks for the welcome everybody and the tips.

I've just started getting out of the habit of brute forcing my way around the circuits by doing the light weight cups as mention. And i do my best to get silvers or better on the Licence test, though if it's really tough i'll settle for a bronze as long as i've got a gold to balance.

My question is, "Where does the new born go from here?" as i've just done the Lotus Classics (Including Golding Laguna, take that!) and re-finished the Sunday Cup i had cleared.

If you basically want to cheat your way through...

A better way that isnt cheating (since it requires money and skill to do) is this:

--

1. Buy A German Touring Car (either one of the Audi's is your best bet).
2.Enter the German Touring Car Championship
3. Win the tournament in B-Spec...x3'ing all races.
4. Sell CLK-GTR for near 1,000,000.
5. tournament prize money added to prize car sell price is 1,000,000.

I utterly fail to see how Bspeccing the DTM race is not cheating, but running the Costa Di Amalfi rally is cheating?

Does it Count as Cheating when the A-Spec Points are 15 either side of 100?
Heck, no. 60 A-spec points is what you get when your car is considered on-par with the AI. So anything above 60 points isn't "cheating". And truly, nothing is "cheating" as long as you stay on the track and off the walls and AI.

By the way, if you hate Laguna Seca, brake earlier. Like, double your current braking distances for a start, and gradually move them shorter from there. I guarantee you'll start to love it.

Welcome aboard GTPlanet!

as long as you race its not cheating basically... if you get some code and haxorz teh gaem then you are cheating. as for a-spec points theres no rule, it all depends on what your skill levels are. you can have a hard race at 30 points and an easy race at 150 points. that depends on you.

try to match cars or pick something slower if you want a challenge.

ving
that would depend on what car you used wouldnt it?

So Schumacher's been cheating for the past 4 years then? After all, he's had the best car for ages (and since it's a Fiat I am sure you know all about it).

actually, come to think of it, He's been getting caught cheating throughout his whole career anyway, so there's actually no reason to think he's playing by the rules now. Yup, I agree then. Having the best car on the track is definitely cheating and should not be allowed. :p

As for hints and tips, just a few tips to avoid bugs which might hurt you later on:

1) In the Mission hall, complete Mission 1 before completing any other mission. There is a bug in NTSC versions that seems to prevent you reaching 100% if you complete one of the other missions before completing Mission 1. Use the search function for more information.

2) Turn the auto save OFF if it is not off already, and try to avoid unplugging your memory card while GT4 is running. There have been plenty of occasions where people have had their saved games corrupted by switching off when the game was saving or by unplugging the memory card ... :dunce:... again while it was saving. Also note that even with auto save off, GT4 will still save the game when you buy a new car or modify a car, so only turn off when you are sure the game is not busy.

3) If you follow the (very good) advice of keeping a backup save on a second memory card, DO NOT use Gran Turismo's copy function. You will lose all the cars in your garage. Copy it using the PS2's built-in copy function.

Other than that, enjoy!

If you want to better your skills I find doing the licenses are pretty good!! trying to gain gold on most licenses, but i shouldn't talk! hahah i only have about 6 golds so far!
Welcome to GTplanet and enjoy your stay!! :P

@ Schockwave, welcome to GTPlanet,
With such an attitude you’ll become a valuable member here! :)

As Scaff mentioned the really good stuff can be found in the stickie called
Look here before you ask. If you have some kind of ‘battle plan’ I’d strongly suggest spending some time reading through those.

There are many types of users to be found here on this gigantic Forum.
Some are interested in photomode (separate forum) others try to maximize A-spec points other try to maximize B-spec points, there a drifters, tuners, collectors you name it its here.
The really good threads are really big and can take a while to read through.
I’ll give you two examples.
Aspec https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61761&highlight=a-spec
Bspec https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61033

One other that may be of help too is
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69375&highlight=beginner

As suggested by others, use the search facility and check out the Forum Site Feedback as well.

Enjoy !

Hey there Shockwave!

Glad to have you onboard! Was a complete noob when I joined this board back in April (still a noob now, but I don't care) and I'm glad I stumbled into this amazing community of GT-Addicts.

Best way to learn quickly? Do the license tests over and over again. With your driving skills down pat, money comes easily. :)

Most people won't agree with me but if AI is cheating, I don't see why I couldn't. Here a little tip for Laguna Seca: before entering the first corner, go to the right side of the track (right of the braking flags). You will gain about 0.5 second there.

*cough* while on that subject you can also gain a position at the Corkscrew by not braking very much and going relatively straight over the dirt, cutting off the second half of that chicane. It's possible to do this and regain the track with reasonable speed.

of course, that would not be sporting behaviour *ahem*

Like Alex Zanardi did to Brian Herta? Although how he straightlined that without going into the dirt or crashing in real-life, I'll never know... haven't been able to do it in exactly the same way.

Never saw that one. But it sounds like Zanardi's kind of move :sly:

Again thanks for the Welcome.

As to Laguna Seca, it's not anyone turn or corner that i dislike (Though the corkscrew is a pain to do right), it's the whole bloody track, pick anyone corner and 80% of the time i'll get it right, it's stringing them all together, and not catching my rear tyres on the dirt.

Laguna Seca has been in the game since what? GT2? Still hate the bloody track.

I can sympathise with that. I've raced this track on a number of games since Indycar Racing, um, 2, probably. Always, without fail, I've found it an easy piece of tarmac to fall off of.
