We first got a glance of the cluster on the far left in the Taiwanese pics of B-Spec mode and the Gamestop track creator video.
Still not clear what those bars on the side mean/do, they don't move, the rest is probably tyre temps/wear and damage

Fuel gauge, Brake/throttle indicators and speed next

G force meter in the middle goes off the charts! :D

Gear, revs and turbo boost on the right

edit - Oh I just noticed Vettel managed to get the exact same time on his 1st and 3rd lap :)

Newer B-Spec pic, same cluster on the top left, but with 4 blocks on the side, instead of 2

Now where does that leave this B-Spec pic on PD's website...? Totally different cluster on the top left and HUD in the centre screen....

Edit

Retail GT5 HUD

Definitely something to do with tyre temperature. When it hits dark red, the tyres smoke. And it takes it a few seconds to cool back down to a light blue. Dark blue is for cold tyres. White means the tyre is loaded and heating up.

At least we know GT5's physics models each wheel individually. In Prologue it felt more like front/back only

Tyre wear perhaps

I just hope it'll be possible to turn the HUD completely off, it's rather distracting when using the cockpit view.

He's in the 3rd lap at the very moment the pic was taken, the total time is an indication for that, 2:50 for the acceleration period before the 1st lap, the two laps plus the 12 seconds for the 3rd.

For the 4 blocks: I think it's either tyre wear or temperature, probably you could display both since the tyres are displayed twice each.
In the first picture I think it's 4 blocks as well, you can see a fine line dividing them it you look closely.

Ahh I didn't think of that, so it could be tyre wear then. The Samba bus pic, may well be showing more tyre wear which is why we see 4 distinct blocks 👍

And ABOVE all that there should be various mechanical damage indicators somewhere..

I guess the blacker areas inside the car birds eye view silhouette (on the left), which show engine, suspension and possibly gearbox, by the looks of it are the damage indicators.

Yeah I see suspension, brakes, engine, gearbox and diff.

No panel damage indicator though.

I personally would prefer to see no HUD whatsoever.
The cockpit-view would totally suffice, it's actually how I played both FC and SCC.

i hope at least you can turn off the track map..

You were able to see the whole and static, the dynamic part (adjustable in zoom) or no map at all in the TT Academy Demo, so I assume that it'll be an option in the full game as well.

They made the map adjustable in the Time Trial demo, maybe we'll be able to adjust, or at leas remove, each hud element independantly. Forza 3 with nothing onscreen except the occasional split time acting as a pitboard is the best experience in my opinion, it sucks you in, it's a shame to play Prologue and be "pulled out" of the game by all the overlay information, even if I don't pay attention it's in the way.

That makes perfect sense as the inner parts of the car can be seen in that icon ( which may turn red or orange when damaged or worn out ).
Would be a clear, nice looking and easy way to show damaged parts I reckon.

The same hud was spotted in the Gamestop course maker video.
I don't think it was fully functional in the X1 video. Note how Vettel is racing without fuel.

By the way, this image must be an older mock-up.
To me it would make more sense to show tire temperatures rather than "damaged parts" in an arcadey style, anyway.

idd btw in gt4 Tyre damage changes slowly from yellow orange in to red (red no grip..)

I would really love to see that real time telemetry display like Forza's that gives you a more detailed view of whats going on, as far as damage, tire wear, tire temps, tire pressure.......
But make it so its on/off with a single button.
And then I would remove the HUD completely except for lap count, speed, and the tachometer.

I'd like the ability to resize the HUD at will. I play GT5 prologue on a 22", 16:10 aspect ratio monitor, and some of the side edges of the HUD get cut off as the PS3 outputs at 16:9. I could run the game in letterboxed mode, but I lose even more of the picture that way. Metal Gear Solid 4 has the option I have mentioned, as well as Wipeout HD.

I like the telemetry data on Forza. Would be a good addition in GT. As for the HUD I really liked the way it was done in Porsche Unleased. In that one you could choose which elements appeared on screen and you could reposition those elements to your liking. Very nice little feature.
