New mobo and cpu.

I'll be installing a new mobo and cpu over the weekend. My question is do I have to do a fresh windows install on my ssd or can I plug it in and be good to go. I think I know the answer wich is fresh install, but just wanted to ask.

Fresh install is the best way to go.
I always start with a fresh install after a major hardware upgrade.

I'm just gonna do a fresh install. I don't have much to lose. I just can't wait to see how fast this new processor flies.

asus ph877-vle mobo to an asus z97-a

and an

i5 3470 to an i7 4790k

I imagine it should work fine without reinstall, no harm in trying. The only problem I see even with a clean install is having to activate Windows, might need to phone Microsoft.

I don't wanna show my hand, but that won't be a problem.

I'm actually thinking of going to windows 8 if there is an actual benefit. Is there?

Windows 8.1 got an app store and DX11.2. I got a Z97 motherboard today, hopefully don't have to reinstall OS. Think I will only do that when upgrading to Windows 10 and hopefully by then get one of those superfast high capacity M.2 SSD drives.

i've had 8.1 on my laptop and went back to 7. Felt like it was more for a tablet. I know you can do classic desktop though. The DX11.2 is what has me interested again in using it.

I just use Classic Shell with W8.1, makes it a bit more like W7 for desktop. Still use W7 for laptop though, desktop PC I rarely use and mainly for gaming so for sure will upgrade to W10 for DX12.
