JOrdan,

Is it possible to exclude the Convo forum from the "New Posts" link? That particular forum is always active, and thus is always at the top of the list.

Much like the old Test forum was excluded.

Great point, I was under the impression that it was automatically excluded since it is not indexed in our search engine, but I was wrong! Easy enough to fix, though. :)

Well I'm certainly not impressed with this change, considering I'm an active user of this particular forum..

But however, majority rules I guess.

I'm not impressed either.

I never subscribe to threads, so I rely on the new posts function telling me that there is a new reply in the Convo Forum. I guess I have to keep another page open of the Convo Forum and refresh that all the time now...

OK guys,

Wouldn't it be easier if you were to create a link on your desktop like this.

It'd do the same thing, and you wouldn't have to visit anything other than that forum.

It is not causing a bother. That thread always sees a significant amount of use, and is therefore always, or nearly always at the top of the New Posts search. As such, it is a given that the thread will have people posting in it.

As much as we kibitz back and forth about this, with the release of GTP8 our discussion will likely be a moot point.

Jordan has hinted that portions of www.handyhomepage.com will be incorporated. As such, you'll likely be able to have certain threads and Forums show up on your homepage.

The forum is being removed from the New Posts link, you can set up a link from your desktop right to the thread if you'd like.

I agree with DA. I can always assume that there is some activity in the convo thread without having the new posts function tell me so.

That's the exact reason I like it being there, because you know there is a new post in that thread. Having a link on the desktop isn't going to sort that out.

Oh well, if you want it that way then let it be. I'll just have to get into the habit of doing it.

If you guys noticed, all that I did was add a conditional to the end of the "New Posts" link:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getdaily&exclude=136

The same old "New Posts" feature still exists as it always did, just take that conditional off of the end:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getdaily

Just put that URL in your Bookmarks toolbar, and you're all set!

Look at how active the Convo forum is. Most times there's less then 5 minutes between posts. If you've been gone for more then 5 minutes, it's easy to assume that you've got some new posts in there. That you could simply check the main forum page and it will tell you.

This makes good sense to me. Thanks DA and Jordan.

I don't get it. Was it removed already? Because it's still apearing in the new posts here.

Neither of those links include the exclusion in the query string. The "New Posts" link at the top right of the page is the one that has been updated, and the only one on this page that will not show the Converstaion Forum in its results.

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about. It still shows the convo thread in the results.

The Yellow box in the top right corner of this page? Right under where it says Welcome, FatAssBR!? Right next to the Buddy List link?

If so, hit your refresh button and see if the link still acts the same.

👎 Now it's harder to find. I don't see how it's that annoying. It's just one link on the first page almost all the time...

Create a shortcut on your desktop with this information:

https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/search.php?do=getdaily

When you click it from your desktop top it will take you right to a "new Posts" link that includes the convo forum.

I suggest all of you keep whining about it, as it really gets the staff's attention. hint

We went nearly 2 hours with only 3 posts yesterday. It just didn't feel right :guilty:

Okay so we're being abit too post crazy, but surely the convo forum is a great thing for new members to see when they hit new posts :D I mean we've always gvien a warm welcome to everybody.

It's just after a while we become haters :D

Well, I just say check it or subscribe to it. I only use the new posts link after I've looked at all my subscribed threads. I've found some very interesting threads this way. However, I still use the subscription service to keep me updated. Even if you don't have it on immediate email, just so that it's in your "mygtplanet" It's status would be one click away just like in the New posts link.

Actually, no. I'm using GTP Lite so it's between the Search and Open Buddy List links.

And no, I won't hit refresh because I use the New Posts link to enter the convo thread and I like it that way. :D

What's this all about then? Are we no longer entitled to voice opinions or complaints?

Bad form 👎

 It's funny it's all the losers from that forum. Yeah yeah... I'm one of them but I ain't complaining and I'm not a post whore either. :p

No, you certainly are welcome and encouraged to voice your opinion and complaint. However, the owner made a decision about it. That settled it right there. Even after Jordan provided a link for you to easily access the old way, people reposted.

That is bad form.

I'll see if I can make that an option (whether or not to include that forum in the link) for the next version of our site. That would probably be best for everyone.

Sounds like a lot of hard work for very little reward. But if you think it will be helpful to the members Jordan...

Are you against having the Conversation Forum threads in the new posts link? (I'm just going to ask a question)
