NFS:HP selling more than GT5?

NFS:HP has sold approximately 5m on multiple formats, GT5 approximately 5m on the PS3.

EA's marketing has now moved away from NFS:HP to NFS: Shift 2, GT5 will continue to be a major part of Sony's marketing until the release of GT6 and likely end up nearer 8m-10m.

PS, NFS:HP is a typical arcade racer, NFS:Shift 2 is made by the same team who produced the GTR games and expected to be a very strong challenger to GT5.

Lol funny how that video has less than 10 seconds of actual game play and everything else seems to be pre-rendered..
Funny how you seemed to have failed to notice that it is a Teaser Trailer.

GT5 was no different through its first few trailers, but as usual with this part of the forum, it gets a pass.

It sucks that I have to go through all these fanboy posts to read the decent ones. I know HP is on multiple consoles, but from a business point of view, wouldn't it make sense for Sony to hire a developerr that shoots out a new game every year and sells as much as a game that took 5 years to make?

It sucks that I have to go through all these troll threads to read the decent ones.

Uh, Shift 2 is made by the same developers as the first game, Slightly Mad Studios, they were founded in 2008, the same year the last GTR game came out. The GTR series, along with the RACE series is made by Simbin, not Slightly Mad.

Not quite, in fact they are the same guys that made GTR

Hmm, to surmise so far:

SMS:
Guys, we're the 'people' that made GTR, GT Legends, and GTR2 regardless of what name was on the box. It's the same group of people. We're capable of good physics. We've totally revamped what's happening under the hood in the physics dept for this one and feel we've improved all of the areas you guys gave us feedback on.

[..]

The wheel code is all new. We have fully programmable inputs now and new FFB code.

It's not marketing ********, you guys are about 1% of our audience so we have little to gain by being economical with the truth in this area. You are a vocal minority though to be fair and as we as a team grew from the mod community (SBDT) your opinions are very important to us, disproportional to the potential sales.

[..]

I just wish people would research before misleading others

Does it even matter who the game waas made by? Does it matter what the game is called? For me, it doesn't.
As far as I am concerned, it could be called 'Peanut Butter Jelly Time Racing', made by 'Communist Red Studios', if it's offering me the best experience, it's going to be the game I'll be playing, period.

I really don't get the whole "lol, it's NFS, it has to be bad" attitude. Granted, the games were rubbish in the past, but that doesn't mean they can't relaunch the franchise and make something good out of it.

OK, sorry, I was wrong, but the way he stated it made it seem like a new developer is making Shift 2 vs the first game.

No its the same but this time around EA isnt going to mess up the physics engine and there will be no need for speed on the cover art from what I could gather it will be just «shift 2 unleashed»

But Im with Luminis here - even if it was named «super mario true racing experience» and it was a good simracer experience I would still play it

So NFS is on on multiple consoles. Are we forgetting Gran Turismo had a much larger budget and a lot more time to be developed? Gran Turismo should be far and away outselling even NFS combined sales numbers, but until someone give us a sales number, rather than a shipped number, I guess we will never know.

I like how the second link says if you add Forza 2 sales totals to Forza 3 than Forza has Far outsold GT this generation. Thats nice, but if you add GT5P sales GT is back ahead. It's more fun to twist it the way you want it to sound though.

to be honest, if forza was on the ps3 id probably get that and play that too. i dont understand why anyone would limit themselves based on nothing more than prejudice.

I don't understand why this thread is three pages. It's simple:

GT5 is only sold on the PS3.

NFS is sold on Multiple consoles.

That's why it has probably sold more. /End Thread

That question is like asking why VW sell more cars than porsche.

How do you guys account for GT's previous sales performances then? Being on a single console only or being the "porsche" as it were have not had the same affects then... seems the logic must be flawed then...

if it has sold alot of units it doesn't make it a good game

just proves the strength of their marketing to young children who like going wrely wrely fast

or any casual racer for that matter

I would definitely own both. I really want to buy FM4 but don't have an xbox, but GT5 is motivation enough to go and buy one

That applies to both games.

When U2 or Pearl Jam puts out an album even if they suck they get more sales and radio playtime then the rookie bands with good music. Something called fanbase & popularity. :grumpy:

All I know is I'll be picking up any decent race game as long as it's fully compatible (or partially) with the G27. IMO no driving game on another console is taken seriously for that reason.

At VGchartz they ESTIMATE the amount of SOLD game copies (NOT SHIPPED) and their sales chart for GT5 then looks as follows:

http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales/7678/gran-turismo-5/

However, their estimates are quite good. Sometimes they get their hands on NPD numbers (see http://www.npd.com/), which is a market research company, and their estimates compare very well.

So it says, 5.3 million sold copies of the game. That is one of the leader of PS3-exclusive games.

It's pretty simple really. Sony sold a lot more PS2 console than MS & Sony have sold Xbox360 & PS3 consoles combined. And then some. The PS2 won it's generation of console wars by a huge margin and the numbers were staggering. It's the same reason why most top Wii games outsell PS3 and Xbox games--because a heck of a lot more people own the Wii.

I tried to argue this point months ago when people were speculating if GT5 would be the best selling game in the GT franchise. It was never going to happen. And Sony knew it too.

Numbers, numbers, numbers... Mario Kart Wii sold more than 15 million copies. Now what?
The numbers don't mean that much. Except this. I would say you can forget Sony agreeing to a $60 million budget for GT6.

I'm happy enough with GT5 to save that $200-ish dollars. If FM was on Playstation, sure I'd probably play it, mainly for one reason. I can use an actual quality steering wheel to play it.

It'd be pretty ridiculous if they needed it in the first place.

Have at it bro. Bring back a thorough review. hardy harhar.
Appearently, a few people seem to have a fixation on sold copied. Mario Kart does that really well. Doesn't do anything for someone who wants a racing sim?

My, that's my exact point: Doesn't matter how many copies two games sell as long as you can enjoy it.

No doubt, I grew up on nes-n64, gameboy. Now my nephews play wii and ds nonstop. Different worlds

I'll preface this by saying that I would be quite surprised if GT6 needed anywhere near a tenth of that in the first place, considering all the stuff Kaz has said about it basically makes it sound like GT5: Special Champion Edition.

With that out of the way, I should mention that sales alone don't mean much in regards to profitability. Other than the costs for disc manufacturing and shipping, I would be astounded if the entirety of the $60 MSRP for GT5 on every copy sold wasn't pure profit for Sony. The development costs were almost certainly paid off before the game even came out, and if PD asked for another $60 million to make GT6 Sony would almost certainly give it to them so long as PD did a GT6:P for Sony to sell in the interim.
