All those real-life tracks are just too wide. Period.

Spa in the first Shift.

Now we have Bathurst, Nordschelife, Road America and Monza - all with more than 1/3 widened all sections. So, pretty much all real-life tracks so far have been widened.

100% pure crap. I can't believe anyone can defend such stupid move, how on Earth can you expect the racing to be fun and challenging if all important configurations of every famous track has been altered and made redundant?

What kind of minds at Slightly Mad thought of that? And how on Earth can they say this:

"We think we can compete and ultimately become market leading in the simulation authentic motorsport segment

Authentic?

We want to make a more authentic experience. We've put in a new elite handling model and given you more access over deadzone, sensitivity, steering aids, break assists, all that kind of stuff, to allow you to dial in the experience you want.

Why do I need such "control" if the tracks are not those who need such a control?

...the thrilling experience of night racing and authentic degradation of tracks and cars, this is tomorrow's sim for today's adrenaline fuelled racer"

For what? Flat-out Eau Rouge? Unexisting fear of Bergwerk? Dipper that is wide as Singapore? This is load of crap, I will buy the Shift 2 for my collection, but this is greatest crap I have seen in the genre for such a long time.

"Simulation" you say Sightly Mad? Yeah, what a piece of shift simulation this is.

I would say that Monza looks pretty cool in that video...
You have to remember that a Golf is a slim car and is not a touring or a race car, making it seem that the track is wider than it really is... beside why bash a game you havent tryed yet...
One thing is for sure Monza in GT5 is wider than in F1 2010... and everybody loves it...

Go make a racing game if you don't like this one, simple.

Please dear friend, I didn't know that I can't be critic on this forum?

Especially to a game that tends to call itself a simulation? On the forum where we discuss simulation games?

Will you please enlighten me what should I do? Praise something that demands to be criticized in the context self-given by people who develop it? Or should I just restrain myself from any comment because it may insult someone here?

Oh, I have advice to you too: if you can't read any criticism on this forum, go and make yourself a your forum.

Widened tracks suddenly mean the game isn't a sim? Please.

Come on McL, I am pretty pissed because it looks like TOCA. Race Driver 3 was the last game in the genre that gave us real layouts on all tracks on consoles. I just would like to have accurate simulation of everything: cars, tracks and physics. Why is that so hard to have?

You are welcome to criticize what you (dont) like, thats the only way things will get better... but to be honest I think that you should try the game out first before you criticize it...

Why do you even bother with consoles?

It's obvious you are looking for what's already on the PC.

Even you know a game like this has to sacrifice some part of the realism to make it applicable to the majority of the crowd they want to target.

I do understand what you're saying (I hated it with Forza) though, but I wouldn't say the game is no longer a sim. As long as the game is somewhat simulating what would happen if the courses were that size in real life & as long as the courses are 95% accurate, so that you know what to expect from each corner, I wouldn't get too bothered by it.

Just my 2 cents.

You claim to have some knowledge about real track widths but I won't buy it until you give me reliable sources and links.

Wow Amar speaking negatively!

I read both your Supercar challenge and GT5 summarys and I wish you were as honest then. Both titles I bought and both titles you didn't spill the beans on any negativity towards them.

Both titles I found flaws with with half an hour with each game.

Still, good to see you can give constructive criticism when you see it.
Hope this is a new honest side to your views coming out and long may it continue.

I'm baffled why you would buy it though?

Dont sound good compared to what?

His complaints consist of a graphic glitch on the Golf windscreen. ( God knows what he thinks of GT5 shadows).

Trees looking like mushrooms. ( god knows what he thinks of cardboard cutout trees).

Engine sounds. (god knows if he likes Dyson).

It's started hasn't it? The one time peaceful serene place on GTPlanet is now slowly getting like the GT5 section.

Shouldn't they be busy glitchin right now?

Gonna start a rant thread to try alleviate some traffic.

Maybe PD stoped the SS glitch thing and he is p"#$ off or something.

I just hope the trees dont pop on an off like they do in GT5 that really P%$#%# off too.

I liked the first Shift, I will probably like this one too. But I am really dissapoinyed with this track width issue, I was so looking forward to accurate sim. But NVM.

As far as Ferrari Challenge and Supercar Challenge are concerned, I still find them a great games really. They have many shortcomings, but at the end they have offered me morr fun and more driving-hours than many AAA racing games in past 5 years, and I really consider both games basically and indie-titles although they have probably cost significant amount of money.

Ok death shot... This game died for me, that looks more like an burnout game... And they say they got "the real driving simulator"...

Sorry what? He has all aids on (clear from the flashing aids and driving line) for a start. Secondly, the car that rolls shreds apart beautifully. PD should take note.

@Amar sorry for off topic.

Sshh, Ferrari the race experience is my guilty secret. Don't tell anyone.

Off topic, but how does Ferrari Race Experience handle with a Logitech Driving Force GT? I tried it with a Driving Force and it was awful, uncontrollable and without any sense of car weight! I was very dissapointed because there are some unique cars and tracks on that game and I won't play a driving game with a gamepad. My Logitech Driving Force wheel may have only 180 degrees steering lock but I find it to perform exceptionally well with both Shift (all aids off) and GT5.

On topic, Shift 2 is looking better and better! Can't wait! :D:tup:

By the way I am still having great fun with Shift!
Maserati MC12, all aids (including abs) off, manual transmission and 15 opponents in the hardest AI difficulty makes for some incredibly exciting 5 lap races on Spa, Road America, Laguna Seca, Nordschleife, Autopolis etc... :D

Yes the AI in Shift is a bit crazy but I find that if you are extremely careful in the first corner and very conservative and polite in the first lap they make for some extremely tight wheel to wheel action. :)

From the videos of Shift 2 posted it looks that SMS has made them much more carefull not to cause a crash. I think that they will offer an even better racing experience from Shift 1! Together with the amazing track selection, car selection, car upgrading and tuning, enhanced physics, night driving (Spa at night looked incredible!) and more makes me very excited about Shift 2! :D:tup:

Hi Vroom I use a g27 and the shifter is disabled.
Need to set transmission to semi auto and paddles then work fine.
I find the FF to be excellent however. Certainly a sim not for the faint hearted.

Not sure if/how DFGT works sorry.

On topic.

Shift looks great.

Thanks Spagetti69!
Maybe it's time to get a 900 degree wheel, a DFGT perhaps because I find G27 to be very expensive. I think that a 900 degree wheel will also enhance the experience with Shift 2! :D
