Exactly. I perfectly understand key chains, USB stick, chrome cars and whatever, but here 40% of game just cut off from release.

So far I never bought a book with third of pages missing, and never seen a movie which ends 30 minutes before the end unless you pay extra money. Why the games are different?

If EA guys can't make full single player game for 60$ - I suggest they'll go to the nearest McDonald's to sell hamburgers instead.

I understand what you're saying now. It seems like EA is doing things like this to make people buy new copies of their game. Bad Company 2 has a VIP code that unlocks a lot of extra stuff in the game, and you only get it if you bought the game new, or buy it from them on the PSN. I think all EA games have a "Limited Edition" that includes extra stuff in it at first, but it'll all be available for download soon enough.

I do agree that it is pretty ridiculous for 40 events to be left off of the standard game, but I wonder if it will be like the other EA "Limited Edition" games, in that all new copies of the game will have the code for the download. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

If you get the standard PC edition, modders will create a mod that will unlock these bonus cars and events.

I don't really know what version to get. I may just get the normal version of the game and get those cars later on though I do like that Alfa.

I just sent them an email (A bottle to the ocean) to correct their awful use of Codemasters-like washed yellowish effect with these two exemples:

My touch up (more GT5 blueish reflective lighting, more contrast, correct saturation);

Alpha.jpg

and the original untouched: Washed yellowish tinted (YUCK!!!)

I don't really know what version to get.

This is an obvious choice: PC or PS3.

NFS Shift was barely playable with my X360 Logitech DriveFX wheel (and now you can't buy even it), and I had tons of fan with DFGT.

I felt like the game really required 900 degrees steering wheel.

Your touch up looks like a real photo. If they can make shift 2 like that, I'll certainly get it, bad gameplay or not. Jst to be able to enjoy the graphics.

Let's hope you're email will be found by SMS/EA in that big ocean.

No I mean normal or Limited Edition. I'll be getting it for PS3.

They're the same price, and the LE comes with more events, so I think the LE is the obvious choice.

You have to pre-order the game, or buy it new, close to launch, in order to get the LE though.

PS3

My PC is a Macbook Pro, so PC gaming is basically non existent for me.
That's an easy choice. I wish it was that easy for me.

  • I don't own a console
  • I do have a gaming pc
  • Console games are easy, simple to use and to setup
  • PC games allows you to use mods
  • Graphics is very important to me and PC games just look much better than console games, most of the time anyway.
  • I never hold on to games if I have no use for them anymore. I.e. when a sequel is due to release. I can sell console games in the store chain where I buy my games but nog PC games.

I read it when it was up, it was posted as a "review" when the guy had only played it for a short time at a motorshow in november the same as everyone else doing a preview. Previews do not translate into reviews no matter how much the previewer big notes himself or how much hype speak he puts in front of the same feature count everyone else did. You can still read it if you paste the url into google and click on the cached link if you want, but there's really not much new there and the note that he barely played a 3-month-out alpha build is buried down the bottom. He seemed very taken with it though.

Yeah don't know why it said review, clearly a brief preview like the rest.

The most important bits I got from it were;

1000km race (Bathurst 1000?)
31 cars ahead (32 car grid?)
V8 Supercars included (Commodore/Falcon?)

All fantastic news for me being an Aussie! Thought he was just telling a story until he said he restarted/changed to Laguna Seca.

He certainly did seem to enjoy himself playing it!

32 cars? 32!?

I'm going to assume that's hype or something, because if it comes out like that it will be staggering. 16 is a lot in the current generation. 24 is class leading. 32 is just unbelievable.

Also, massive props to them for Bathurst.

Well, Nascar the Game is 43 cars...

I didn't know that either. Admittedly, a NASCAR game has a lot of things going for it that make a large field easier, but it's still extremely impressive.

Looks like by the next generation of consoles we'll be at the level of realistic sized fields of cars for non-endurance races at least, and the developers can start maximising some other part of the game.

Nice to have something different with Bathurst. Hopefully a Monaro as well in cars.

32 is allot? it's funny coz we're just two clicks away from the gt5 forum with 200 premiums alone!!!

I think you misread that mate. They're referring to 32 cars on track at the same time. The NASCAR game referenced above is doing 43 cars on track at the same time.

GT5 is doing 16 cars on track at the same time. Not in the same league. But let's not start up the Shift 2 vs. GT5 flame war already. We barely know anything about this game so far.

I'm incredibly excited about this game. All things said and done, in my humble opinion I think Shift is a better game than GT5 and Forza 3. I know the physics aren't as good, but for pure fun factor I've got much more enjoyment out of Shift. The singleplayer career had me completely hooked (I love the little missions you have like mastering corners etc during races, so there's always something to do even if you're winning) and I love the progression of it and having invitationals etc, very nicely done. I also really liked just how gritty and dirty the game was, from the sounds to the amazing visual damage (even being able to mess up your windscreen etc, very cool!). Finally the track selection in Shift was absolutely golden, I've never been a big Silverstone fan but everything else was spot-on.

To be honest, my only wishes for Shift 2 is that they improve the physics a bit and add to what they already have. I don't want any tracks or cars that were present in Shift 1 to be missing in the sequel, that would be a real shame and the one thing that I really hate about the Gran Turismo series, when tracks go missing in the sequels!

Really, the Shift series could become something really special and the fact Shift 1 sold over 4 million copies gives me hope that EA will continue to nurture the franchise so it can become something big. I think the developers are on to something really great here and if they manage to have night racing for every single track I will be very pleased. Some weather would be nice too :D

European release date has been announced as March 10th. :) About nine weeks then, well TDU2 should keep me busy during February.
