For those who don't know Alice in chains, I'd recommend you watch these:

There are countless other good songs by Alice in Chains, so please don't limit yourself to just these. (The last song has changed words to censor it, so it sounds a bit different in some parts)

I'm actually quite surprised at the number of people who don't know who they are. Probably because they're not on guitar hero or whatever other games make people think they know classic rock

Did you just call Alice in Chains classic rock?

Lucky you. :grumpy:

Can I come? :dopey:

That would have to be a choice between taking my wife or you....

....sorry you lose.

I have to say I am looking forward to it a lot, just getting the tickets was a big enough pain (I even scheduled the coffee break on the course I was running so I would be free when the ticket line opened on-line).

Will post with impressions and lots of details when I get back.

It would seem that way, but no, I didn't. It was meant as a joke that because it was not in guitar hero people wouldn't know them, like the kind of people who think they know everything about classic rock because they've heard a few songs in guitar hero. Looking back at the sentence, it didn't come out like I wanted it to.

In the event that I do call them classic rock, please feel free to shoot me, and aim for the gut so I suffer.

I was actually less concerned about your accuracy and more concerned about my age.

Your not old... yet

Think of how my dad feels. I love classic rock and that's all I listen to (save for a few other genres), and when he was my age he listened to the same exact bands that I do, but when they first came out.

I'd say the best bet to get an idea of alice in chains would be to look up these...

"Don't Follow" (very different style from the stuff above, be sure to listen to the whole song as it changes and develops beyond what is heard in the first minute)

"Again" (good, fast rock)

"Would" (great bass line)

musicianship: Cantrell over Cobain by a mile.

vocals: Staley over Cobain by far

lyrics: what was cobain talking about again?

It was April of 1999, and I was waiting at a traffic jam in Boca Raton. I fumbled through the radio stations, since it was about 5pm, nearly every station was at a commercial break: Except the oldies station. Said radio station played [wikipedia]Cat's in the Cradle[/wikipedia], which hit the charts the same week I was born.

That's when I started to age, according to their program director. Recently, the classic rock station occasionally plays "standards" from when I was first in high school, but it's usually Tom Petty or Van Halen, so pre-grunge seems to be the dividing line for classic rock. That will probably change in 5-10 years.

I saw Alice in Chains at Lollapalooza in 1993, never saw Nirvana live. So I may have a bit of bias because of that. I saw Foo Fighters back in early-2006 with my wife, and they were pretty good, although for some reason the Grohl mentioned he was "high" about a dozen times druing the show.

I gave it up when my favorite childhood sitcoms hit Nick @ Nite and TV Land, and then went off again as too old. I knew I was in trouble when Cheers, Night Court, and Wonder Years were considered old shows.

Oh God, i really like both bands, they are unique in their own way, but when it comes to me, listening to the song Rooster by AIC is way more powerful then any nirvana song out there, if yo havent heard Rooster, listen to it, they guys voice is just amazing, guitars are amazing and just the lyrics are amazing, this is one of the best songs from AIC in my opinion. but this is coming from a 80's metallica freak.
