The market for actual offroady SUVs is a bit dry these days.

Jeep Wrangler and Land Rover Discovery (off-road capabilities are arguable with the new models) seem to be doing fine but that's about it.

I think that's basically it. No one has managed to make a Off-road SUV quite like these two have (though it kinda helps that both companies have their roots in Off-road vehicles so hardly a surprise there).

It also doesn't help that Nissan basically gave up on it. After even the Pathfinder went crossover, the writing was on the wall for the Xterra.

That's a bit sad, I've always had a soft spot for the Xterra.

I also remember it sold quite well when it was released. But then Nissan just kind of stopped updating it, which is a shame since a lot of people don't trust or simply don't want to buy a Wrangler.

There still is the Land Cruiser and 4Runner which are both quite good off road SUVs.

There's still plenty of credible off-road options out there. Toyota has their TRD Pro line, and I certainly would believe that the 4Runner TRD Pro is an easy replacement. On top of that, if GM is truly getting off their butt and making a tough Colorado/Canyon, that'd be a reasonable successor as well.

They still made it? More pertinently, now that they're killing it off, what will the smarmy, well-off high schoolers played by late-20's actors drive in sitcoms/movies?

Veronica's on the job, surely.

Wrangler Unlimited.

Tell that to Jaguar, Bentley, Lamborghini, etc.
"Off road" being the operative words, here.

That said, there are some other SUVs that are street-able while still have decent off-road capability(see: Jeep Cherokee).

Also, I saw an Xterra at the Baltimore Auto Show last month that kinda took me by surprise. I was actually really impressed that it was still selling alright while having almost no stylistic changes from the one my neighbor had when I was 10(12 years ago), and still looking like it actually sorta belongs along side current models.

Well Range Rover can still do off-roading, but that doesn't mean that anyone is going to do so with it.

Same, but there's something in the pipeline that, although it won't directly replace it, will sort of fill that gap. We'll see.

As far as the traditional SUV style goes, this leaves Jeep as the only SUV with a manual option in the US.
You know, as dated as it is, essentially a 10 year old car, I'm sad to see it go. It's a breath of fresh air and a unique choice compared to it's mid size crossover competitors.

If they didn't have the awful issue of coolant leaking into the transmission and if it didn't have parts of the drivetrain made from what I can only assume is cheese, I'd probably own one of these now. I'll be curious to see if they end up replacing it with something that isn't awful.

Not really replacing it but bringing something already in the lineup slightly back in that direction.

Are we thinking an off-road-ready Pathfinder? Or something built off the Titan/Armada?

It'd honestly seem like Nissan is ceeding a lot of marketshare to the 4Runner by not having something similar. I'd suppose that, if the Cherokee Trailhawk can truly be a decent off-road vehicle, why can't the Pathfinder do the same?
