No Endurance races in GT4

Hi all - just found this forum.

I've been told that GT4 won't have any endurance races and most will be restricted to 3 laps.

I'm a bit upset about this as I loved the longer races in GT3. Apparently a lot of people complained about endurance races last time around and that they didn't want to do a 2 hour race just to be able to complete the game.

This is very disappointing as the whole point of gran turismo is that it is supposed to cater for everyone!

How do other people feel about no endurance races in GT4?

I'd be interested in your opinions.

I've not heard anything like that, perhaps someone else has...

I don't believe anything with GT4 now unless I see it on paper from the official site, or until i see the same news on multiple big wesbsites such as IGN, Gamespot, and Operation Sports. Too many rumors fly about GT4. heck even the release date fluctuates...and that's still not even official. It could happen, but I dont think PD would take endurancee races out of the best gran turismo to come...while having endurance races in the first 3.

Ive heard nothing about the races. And im pretty sure there will be Endro's. So Don't doubt there won't be.

I could be perfectly happy with a maximium of 3/5 laps per race, but 15 for a championship race as in GT3? no thanks.

Although I don't like the endurance races, I'd prefer to see them there than not. I'd like em to be around 45mins-1 hour long though.

I cant believe this news, endurence races are something that gran turismo introduced into video games, i dont think the news is true. But if it is i will greatly miss the long races because i found myself doing them to get a quick 200000 credits and a sweet car, plus it extended the life of gran turismo by many many hours. =(

I believe there will be Endurance Races, but I think that hopefully Polyphony will tone them down or implement some new innovative sytem to make them more interesting. :trouble:

I agree completly there. I also would be perfectly happy with 3-5 lap races...be exactly like GT2. This news is utter crap, ofcourse there will be endurance races in GT4, problem is the only ones i half enjoyed in GT3 was seatle and the one with the Mazda mx5. They were about 1 hr long so that was good for me. Hope there are no races over 1 1/2 hours...thats just my preference though. Probably lots of you who would love a 2 hour or more.

Yep that news is crap, I personally wouldn't mind the 10 laps per race cups in GT4 as long as the AI is up to the job of keeping up with you, as for the endurance races, although I have little time to do them they are an extra feature and do add to the experience and they will be in GT4.

There will be endurance races, taken them off would ruin the game and the whole point of it. All of the previous things we had in GT3 must be there and be better, plus other stuff we don't know about. There shouldn't bean easy way to get 100% in the game, and endurance races shouldn't even be considered hard, they're one of the most easy parts of the whole game. If somebody doesn't want to do the race in 2 hours straight, they can just pause the game, do something else, then get back in the game any time they want. So there isn't a problem in endurance races I would be expecting more of them, or make em harder, like an endurance race with F1 cars in them..., even if we had something like that in GT3, there should be more.

in what world are races only three laps long?

bring on the enduros. make em all enduros except for the beginner stage.

I don't think that would be a good idea. That would make GT4 too long, and people would lose interest in the game. There probably will be enduros in GT4. I would miss them if they weren't in the game. They're a big part of the GT games to me.

No, how the hell are people who don't have much time to play the game gonna get anywhere if all the races are enduro's.

My thoughts exactly!

I'm one who believes they have a good thing going on already in GT3 as far as race lenghts are concerned. Shorter races whould have me loose interest quite fast. Series need to stay longer (longer would be nice) or else what would be the use of having pit stops? I would like for tire-wear to be a bit more realistic however, who ever hear of pit stops every 3 to 5 laps with any tires in any races? Even super sticky tires (i.e. qualifying tires in F1) were good for at least 3 laps or more (prior to new F1 regulations in qualifying) as a pilot would have his warm-up lap followed by one, sometimes two qualifying laps and then his cool-down lap.

So I wish for weenies believing the races are already too long stop playing Gran Turismo and get themselves an ARCADE-type game rather than a SIMULATION-type game.

I would add that we do need more tracks!!!! And that shouldn't be a problem as there are no shortages of real racing track on our little planet. Maybe just need 2 dvds, one for arcade mode and one for simulation mode (as in 2 cds with GT2).

On a closing note, it would also be nice to have more than 5 AI opponants as in any real race, to have the AI cars have the same slowdowns as us when they hit a wall or go off-track, and to have the damage feature (i.e. GT2) brought back (at least as an option).

The more realism the better!!!!!!!!!

This type of news only comes from one place. The back of a male cow.

No they weren't. Back in the 80's, one lap qualifying tyres were just that. The drivers had to drive very carefully on their warmup lap. They then went balls out for a lap , and then the tyres were gone (sometimes they went off during the qual lap!) So while the tyres did 3 laps, they were only good for 1.

Back to the topic, Caligula comes in here and says that someone told him that Endurance races were not going to be in GT4. And the reaction the post gets is "That's terrible! Enduros have got to be in GT4."

A few points here
1. Who is this "someone"?
2. Why did they tell Caligula?
3. Where is the proof/evidence?
4. Why should we believe him?

The moral of this story is "Don't believe everything your are told" Enduros have been in the first 3 GTs, there is no reason for them not to be in GT4.

Your bang on with the reactions of some people, they would probably have done the same if he came here and said there was going to be ufo's to unlock instead.

Actually...... well, early 80's, indeed, I'll agree with you, late 80's and 90's however was different. Though the warm up and cool down laps were indeed slow, there were quite often 2 (rarely 3 tho it as been done) fast qualifying laps. Anyways, besides "qualifying" tires (tyres for UK folks:lol: ), no other tires should have such a short life span as in GT3 (unless one makes doughnuts forever à la Zanardi and such).

What? A UFO to unlock? Where? Tell me!!

Yes, I do agree with your main point that tyres should last longer. New tyres for your F1 after every 8 laps (or so) at Midfield is a joke.

All I know is there will be a purple and a green one.

Heh some people on this forum take GT far too seriously. So what if 3 laps per race isn't the same as real life, GT doesn't have real drivers or 20+ cars on grid? GT isn't real life.

If you want a real 'simulation', get a track car & go to some track days.

Also if every race was 70 or so laps it would take centuries to finish so that would make the game pointless. Main idea of GT is to begin at the bottom & work your way up like a mini career in a game.

Perhaps if GT was as realistic as real life things would be different, but until then bring on the 3 lap races :D

Hi again guys.

I was told there were no endurance races in GT4 by a chap I work with. He told me had heard this information from several people.

I have no evidence. I'm hoping it's not the case. I posted here hoping that you guys could ease my mind and tell me it's a load of rubbish as I love the endurance races. I'm one of those guys who races complete Grand Prix's, so the longer the better for me!

I love Project Gotham Racing 2, but that game annoys me because of the lack of any long races. Constantly playing 3 lap races means that if you make a bad start, that's the end of the race! I love the challenge of being able to make up time from errors.

So nope - I've no evidence, just a rumour I'd heard and I was hoping you could prove me wrong.

Looks like no one really knows for sure....lol

At least it would keep us occupied untill the next version of GT:lol:

Its like saying taht if you want a real flight simulator, and Microsoft flight sim 20** isn't good enough, go buy a 747, or train to be a passenger pilot.
The fact is, alot of us cannot afford a track car, and a few of us can't even legally drive a car.
I think they should keep the endurance races otherwise there is no variety in the races and tactics.

ExigeExcel - I agree totally!

Sure Gran Turismo isn't life lifelike! The simple fact is that I enjoy long races purely because I get a greater sense of achievement winning one long race than winning 10 short ones (and not necessarily 70 laps, the championships with 15 laps are cool).

Long races give a more epic feel to the game, and regardless of realism, it can be fun taking a couple of laps to purely "close a gap", keeping a close eye on split times etc. Just gives a nice meaty challenge to get stuck into, with the knowledge that you aint gonna want to quit because of a poor lap, like you may with a 3 lap race.

I think the format of GT3 was excellent and I would like to see a similar thing with GT4.

As for championships, I hope they keep the option to race individual races or a full championship. I loved the way that you could pick a championship in GT3 and choose to either just race a couple of tracks or the whole thing!

The point made about endurance races being easy - this is true, but what I tend to do is choose a medium tuned car or just a slower vehicle to make it more of a challenge - you don't have to choose the fastest car available. Choosing a slower vehicle at times provides more of a challenge and is a way of overcoming the easiness with which the AI is beaten!;)
