My GT4 doest start!!!!!! :( :banghead: it gets to the warning screen that tells you about seatbelts and stuff then it stops at a black screen and nothing happens. i had just hit 78% i'm gonna cry... :nervous:

Consider yourself lucky that the disk went and not the memory card.

I left my GT3 in Boston while I was home for winter break, but I remembered my memory card thankfully and I had a "backup" GT3 that I bought for $10 just for the different color box art. Somehow, though, that disk is actually Spiderman...I am not joking, it is a Spiderman DVD with a real GT3 label...fused on. Apparently it fell into the wrong bin at Sony and got packaged as a GT3 disk. (People have suggested selling it on ebay as a collector's item.) Anyway I was upset, but as long as you still have your game save, all is well.

That's why I back everything up onto a second card every 5%...and when I get to high percentages, maybe even a third.

i've cleaned the dic like 3 times and the ps2 works with every single other game so its not that i guess my cd went dud. :nervous:<---- its synchronized with my avatar.

Actually the smilie and your avatar are producing a beat frequency at 1Hz and causing a small seismic disturbance in Finland as we speak.

No it's not...

Has your PS2 been chipped, 'cos I hear this can make a big difference in whether the game runs or not, although it would be weird to run previously and then just stop - unless you've recently had the chip installed?

That is a collectors item I reckon - even Famine wouldn't have one of those... :sly: You should PM him and see what he thinks. You never know, he may be interested in it... :)

Chipping won't hurt the running of GT4 unless it's an old PS2... if it ran previously, it can't be the chip.

I had the same thing happen to me. I returned the disc to the store and got a replacement (it was only 2 weeks old). The replacement disc loaded fine and has ever since.

Before I returned the first disc , I put it into a brand new PStwo , just to be sure , and it did the same thing....stuck at that screen.

Weird thing was , the bad disc looked perfect , no scratches or anything........go figure.

Yes, I can feel it. Oh, it's just my hangover...

ONTOPIC: My disc worked fine with my PS for maybe a week or two. Then it just didn't. Freezes right at the start. No warning screen or anything. All my other games work fine with my PS. Well, since then I've been using my GF's PS to play GT4...

so i guess this isn't an isolated problem not the only person it has happened to. i guess i'll have to buy a new game =( how lame. and it is synchronized if you load the page right. :sly:

Can't you return it to the shop you bought it from under warranty? :)

There were times to where my GT4 game wouldn't boot up at all. But a good thorough cleaning of the disk (espcially towards the inside of the disk) fixed that problem.

Are you abusive to your PS2? That could also make it not work. GT4 is one hell of a load to run for an older PS2.

Do I have to make a FAQ thread or something?
Your PS2 is just old, reset it if it stops loading. If you're sitting there resetting for more then 20 minutes, you're probably screwed.
If it stops loading while playing (red loading clock/taking 5 minutes to go between menus), eject and reinsert the disc, that should jump start it.
Cleaning the disc and the PS2 lens probably wouldn't hurt either. Unless you use steel wool.

GET A NEW ONE ITS DEFECTIVE GET A NEW ONE. DO YOU HAVE THE RECIPTE? :sly:

i think i stated that i have no recipt, i cleaned my ps2 and where it doesn't load and i have cleaned the disk a ****load of times. thats why i said i was gonna get a new one. :nervous:

Your Ps2 is having trouble reading the second layer. The seatbelts and warning to wear them is just before the transition between them.. i had this problem to,,, Then i extracted the ps2 chip i had installed. Atleast it works now. But its always freezing or saying "please insert a playstation format disc"

well my dad bought another ps2 one of the slim ones hes afghanistan and hes coming by in november or so, i'll wait till then. :nervous:

I know exactly how you feel. I had GT4 and played it and played it and played :) until it wouldn't load :grumpy: - same point 'seat belts n stuff', so I had a closer look at the disc and just on the side nearest to centre it had worn away. So, I got another one :) - played ok for a while - then it started doing the same thing!!!!! :grumpy: Then I got a PS2 slimline  put the disc in and it's been fine ever since 👍 :) I reckon it was the fact that we had an ancient PS2 - unable to cope with the game 👎

lol.. do the old versions have super powered lasers?.. How could you tell the middle of the disc was worn down?

kewl thanks...lol. warn out..*mental note, fix spelling*

i wasnt trying to make you look like a fool, i was interested in how you tell if the disc is 'warn' out. Ill be sure to check for this if my game stops working

thanks again.

I think my PS2 may be doing this to my disc. :nervous: When it loads between menus and stuff, it gives a sort of clunking noise, which I think is the motor trying to spin the disc, but the disc is slipping on the holder -kind of like a burnout. I can see how this would make the center of the disc wear out. I can also see how the slim PS2 wouldn't do this, as the disc locks in place like on a laptop, is doesn't sit in the tray and get clamped in place by a mechanism.

I'm a bit worried now, although I've got my receipt so if my disc does wear out, I'll be takin' it back and DEMANDING a new one under warranty. I don't think this sort of thing would normally be covered under warranty, but I'll just shout over top of the guy, that usually works... :sly:
